Debian Installation :: Canon Mx860 Connected By WiFi To Network

Jan 9, 2016

Loaded Debian Jessie (x64) and when adding printers, can see my printer which attached ok to my RaspberryPi and can print thru it, but can not attach to my Jessie box. If it adds, it can't see it or reports printer is busy, tried every config I could find on the web. Previous versions of Debian I loaded the canon print driver separately and loaded the cnij(?) filter. Do I still have to do that? Is there a trick to getting a network canon to work?

Ubuntu Installation :: Wireless Install Of Canon MX860 All-in-one Scanner?

Oct 19, 2010

I've done a ton of searching and all I've found seems geared to having your printer/scanner connected via USB cable in order to get the scanner working. I have the printer working wirelessly but thus far no go on the scanner. I've downloaded and installed the scangearmp packages.

I've tried installing the sane package via git according to this blog but when I try to run configure I see this: mustek_usb2 backend requires pthread library - disabling and usb isn't listed among the installed backends. I don't even know whether I need usb because this is wireless, but after compiling I run scanimage -L and nothing comes up. I'm still a Linux newb, and have learned a ton in the past couple of days, but this one is stumping me.

Ubuntu :: Can't Print With Canon MX860

Jun 6, 2010

I cannot print with my Canon MX860. I have downloaded the proper drivers from the Canon Europe website and forced the arch to x64 as described on many sites. When I try to print a test page I get the error that "Idle - /usr/lib/cups/filter/pstocanonij failed". I have checked in lib64 and pstocanonij was there as well. If I change the URI from USB to CNIJUSB then I get the error that "cnijusb has failed". It may be possible to get this working as in another forum someone claims to be successful. I am able to use the scanner with the sane-backends package, so that is not a problem.

Fedora Hardware :: Canon MX860 Multifunction Wireless Printer Not Detected

Jun 2, 2010

I have Canon MX860 Multifunction USB/Wireless printer that I am trying to add in Fedora 13. Looking under Desktop > Computer via USB connection, the printer is detected as some hardware device I can mount and unmount. However, when I am trying to add this printer via System > Administration > Printing, the printer is not detected at all nor can I add. FYI, this printer works fine in Ubuntu 10.04 LTS. How I can make this printer working in Fedora 13?

Debian Installation :: Wheezy Install 7.8.0 - Cannot Stay Connected Through WiFi

Apr 2, 2015

I love using wheezy but i keep having to take my computer downstairs to hook it up to router through ethernet, i need it to connect through wifi and stay connected.

heres my problem, if i use live image and connect to network its fine but during installation process it gets to the network configuration, it will keep disconnecting at dhcp and if i try and continue it gives me the error packages broken due to it not staying connected.

MY WIFI CARD IS A TP-LINK WDN 4800

if i try and just do a net install then it doesnt show my wifi network.

it uses in both cases ar93xx atheros driver for installing, i just need to know how i can try and keep a stable connection over wifi so it can install over wifi so i dont have to keep taking pc downstairs to install it.

i done something that stopped me being able to login into wheezy i was left at black screen with blinking command line, i have reverted to mint debian until i can get a stable connection over wifi to install wheezy again.

Ubuntu Networking :: Enabling Wifi In Laptop For Other Devices When Connected To Wired Network

Jul 14, 2010

This may be more suited for the networking forums, but I figured Community Cafe would be well rounded enough for someone to tell me if this is even possible (with minimal configuration that is). There are a few places I travel where I only have a wired connection to the Internet (no wifi), but when this happens is there a simple way to create an adhoc network so wireless devices can route through my computer and to the network? Reason I'm asking is I'm thinking of getting an iPad or iPod Touch which have wireless connections, but in the cases where my laptop is using a wired ethernet connection and the wireless card isn't used, I'd like to create an adhoc wireless network that'll let such wireless devices work.

Debian :: Connected To WiFi But Cannot Open Any Pages

Jan 8, 2016

I have installed network controller driver(iwlwifi) in debian jessie and connected to wifi, but I could not connect to any web sites. I installed network-tools and input "iwconfig" it did show a wlan0 there.

Then I opened resolv.conf ,but there were 2 resolv.conf in my /etc,one contains "search lan nameserver 192.168.199.1",one contains "nameserver 8.8.8.8 nameserver 8.8.4.4".

I changed the content of the first one to 8.8.8.8 and restart networking, but I still could not open pages with wireless network.

And I open the first one again, and it changed back to 192.168.199.1,and an extra line "domain lan"above the line"search lan".

Debian Configuration :: Networking: Connected To Wifi, Webpages Won't Resolve?

Oct 2, 2010

I just installed Debian with the latest testing iso, and I'm having problems connecting to the web via browser. I can ping hostnames (i.e. google.com, debian.org, etc.) from the terminal and it resolves just fine, but if I try to load a page from Iceweasel or Epiphany it says the page won't load because it can't resolve the hostname. Can someone tell me what I'm missing?the detail that I'm running amd64. I've checked iptables and found no entries, and for good measure I flushed it to be certain. I also checked resolv.conf but that looked normal, just a nameserver entry pointing to my home router. I'm new to Debian, but have used Linux for years, and I'm genuinely stumped. I'm sure the solution will smack me in the head for its simplicity, but nonetheless I need at least a shove in the right direction.

Debian :: NetworkManager Applet Shows No Network While Connected - Wired Network Device Not Managed

Oct 30, 2010

I'm running Squeeze and I'm looking 3 days now for a solution in some weird problem. The NetworkManager Applet shows that there isn't connection although I am connected. The icon has this small "x" and when mouseover it says "No network conncection". Moreover when left clicking it, it says

"Wired Network Device not managed"

While I was looking for the solution a came across this post by an Ubuntu developer who says:network-manager-applet displays the connectivity state of network-manager's managed interfaces not every interface. So the title "network manager says disconnected but is connected and working" is actually misleading. The interface is connected and working but not from network-manager's point of view since it is not managing the interface. Additionally, in Lucid now network-manager applet displays nothing now for non-managed interfaces so is less misleading. You can check to see whether or not an interface is managed by network-manager by using the command line too nm-tool. You'll see "State: unmanaged" for unmanaged interfaces.

Debian :: Canon Printer - Lp0 - "Printer Not Connected -- Check Your Connection"

Jul 31, 2011

I have a canon printer which was working so far. After my latest upgrade its giving errors saying "Printer not connected -- Check your connection" Fortunately I had a backup of my root before the upgrade and one difference I see is that on the new system theres no /dev/usb/lp0 which there is on the old one. So how do I make it? Or should I use the /dev/lp0? Note they are different:

So (naturally) when I tried to make a softlink from /dev/usb/lp0 to /dev/lp0 it did not work.

Debian Configuration :: Network-manager & Auto Scanning While Connected

May 6, 2010

I'm trying to use network-manager in sid and it's incredibly frustrating because every 2 minutes or so it seems to scan for wireless access points, during which time my SSH connections completely hang and screw up. Pings start dropping packets as well. By doing an "iwlist scan" I can reproduce the behavior. Has anyone else dealt with this? I haven't been using network-manager, but I am currently due to mobility and needed VPN functionality... WICD with no network-manager works better but there's no gui-based VPN support. I've got an Atheros wireless device and I've read that supposedly it should be doing background scanning since kernel 2.6.32, but I haven't seen anything like that, and I'm on 2.6.32-5-amd64 currently, 2.6.32-3-amd64 behaves the same too.

However, I'm trying to go totally mobile so I can kill the ADSL and the line rental and switch to 3G. Does anyone know a solution which allows me to accept (or ask for delivery) of SMTP when temporarily connected and queues it externally? Sort of like a hosted mail queue which pumps SMTP onto my laptop only when I ask it to.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wifi Is Not Connected?

Mar 23, 2010

WiFi on this laptop worked fine for a few months then went out; after a reinstall of ubuntu (since 9.xx had come out since then anyway) the wireless still refused to even see networks, let alone connect to them; under Wireless Networks in the NM, I just see a greyed out 'disconnected'. This got me to thinking that it may have just been a hardware issue, but I find that hard to believe. Anyway, here's the pertinent information:

Started off with an lshw command just to see if a network adapter is even listed as being connected: `lshw`

Code:
id:
network:1
description: Wireless interface
product: PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection[code]....

As an addendum : I found this driver project but they claim to require a 2.6.8+ kernel; a quick `uname -r` shows that mine is 2.6.31, and an `apt-cache search linux-image` reveals that to be the highest available from repos; do Debian/Ubuntu distros not use more recent kernels or is this an Ubuntu-specific kernel naming scheme? If so, to what would it be comparable? I'm hesitant to try to install this and change my firmware if it's likely I'll be borking something.

Debian Hardware :: RT2070 Falling Off WiFi Network

Dec 30, 2014

I have been replacing XP with Debian wheezy on my fathers in-laws old Dell SX280.

It uses a wifi USB dongle labelled as a TP-Link TL-WN321G.

lsusb reports it as Ralink RT2070 with ID 148f:2070

The interface is configured only using /etc/network/interfaces using

auto wlan0
allow-hotplug wlan0
iface wlan0 inet dhcp
wireless-essid MYSSID
wireless-key s:MYKEY

The network works for a few minutes, and then falls off the network. I am pinging the router IP address so it's not DNS

running dhclient wlan0 immediately restores the network, but it then fails again after a few minutes

I have tried using the standard stable kernel along with packages firmware-linux (pulls in free and non-free) along with firmware-ralink

I have also replaced all of the above packages and the kernel from wheezy-backports; it makes no difference

in dmesg it says it is using firmware rt2870.bin

I can't figure out why it falls off the network, it didn't in XP. The PC only 5 metres from the AP with a very strong signal.

Debian Configuration :: Wheezy - Detect Printer On One WiFi Network But Not Other

Sep 21, 2015

I use a 'wifi hotspot' provided by my mobile (android) phone for internet/email and to connect to my wifi capable HP p1102w printer. Installation and use of the printer worked perfectly until I bought a new phone, again android with 'wifi hotspot' capability. The wifi connection on my new phone works fine for internet and email but it totally fails to detect my printer.

I have tried to detect and connect to the printer using system-config-printer and using the HP utility hp-setup. Both fail to detect the printer on the 'new' wifi network.

The old network connection which detects the printer as expected gives the following output:

Code: Select allpat@debian:~$ ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 6c:3b:e5:91:ec:0c
          UP BROADCAST MULTICAST  MTU:1500  Metric:1

          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 B)  TX bytes:0 (0.0 B)

The new (problematic) network connection which fails to detect the printer gives the following output:

Code: Select allpat@debian:~$ ifconfig
eth0      Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr 6c:3b:e5:91:ec:0c
