Debian Hardware :: Keyboard Freeze Hibernate

Oct 6, 2015

I am Debian Sid user and have some issues with my keyboard. I installed Debian some months ago and my laptop was always plugged on the external screen with external keyboard and mouse. For the fist time I took my pc at school and notice that when I close the lid (hibernate) then open it, I can't use my keyboard because of freeze. The screen turn on but the keyboard is dead. I have to close the lid few time and suddenly it work. Never face this problem before because with the external keyboard there is no issue.

I installed on the another HDD, Fedora, Mint, openSuse and the problem is the same.

I found some tuts like
- Open gksu gedit /etc/default/grub
- Find the line : GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash"
- Change it like this : GRUB_CMDLINE_LINUX_DEFAULT="quiet splash atkbd.reset"

Debian Multimedia :: Keyboard And Mouse Freeze After Login In Squeeze

Feb 10, 2011

I have a problem with mouse and keyboard. Both freeze within 30sec to half an hour after logging into squeeze 64bit (using gnome). My hardware is Asus P7P55D EVO (tested with linux according to ASUS) with Intel i5 760 CPU. I use IBM keyboard and Trust PS2 mouse. I also have MSI HD4350 graphics card, that was at least listed on Ubuntu to be supported, worked fine also with Lenny.

When using same combination with Lenny (64-bit) I never found any problem with either keyboard nor mouse, even running long nights. However there was need to upgrade to Squeeze since it has newer kernel supporting the sensors on board my MB. I used same mouse and keyboard also on Ubuntu 9.10 and had never problems. However when I upgraded to new MB I started with Ubuntu 10.04 64 bit version and experienced same keyboard and mouse freeze as I have now in squeeze. Only way out from this status is hard reset using PC reset button.

I connected with putty to my linux box and found following (while the linux box was on frozen state) from dmesg on keyboard: :/var/log$ dmesg | grep -i keyboard [ 1.064628] input: AT Translated Set 2 keyboard as /devices/platform/i8042/serio0/input/input0

Ubuntu :: Restore From Hibernate/sleep By Wireless Keyboard?

Dec 11, 2010

I have an annoying problem which I am not able to solve. I have installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my home laptop (MSI X410) and I wanted to use it as a media PC stored in the shelf under my TV. The issue is that I cannot open the lid everytime I want to use the PC because of the height of the self.Everything is working fine (HDMI to TV, running with closed lid once turned on...) except sound - no sound via HDMI. However, I think I might bypass this issue by audio cables though I haven't tried it yet.

Anyway, the issue is that I don't want to keep my laptop turned on 24/7 and once done, I would like to hibernate it/put it to sleep, to save energy, prolong lifetime of the pc and get rid of the noise. The restoration from hibernation/sleep works flawlessly, however I can do than only by pressing the power button (hidden under the closed lid).I can put the PC to sleep by pressing sleep button on my wireless keyboard, but I cannot restore it by pressing the same button, enter, or even power button on the keyboard itself. It seems like the keyboard is automatically unplugged when hibernating (which could be quite

Ubuntu :: Mouse And Keyboard Freeze In 10.04?

Aug 13, 2011

The mouse, and keyboard, freezes at random times? When I search the discussion boards for a solution to this problem, it is overwhelming to see how many others are having the same difficulty, yet I haven't come across specific solution(s) to the problem. (One posting has over 180 pages of comments!) I am still using Jaunty but would like to move up to 10.04, which I have installed on a separate partition. Unfortunately, that partition can't be used by my family because it freezes at random times! Naturally, I am unable to get any more updates with Jaunty. (I never had problem with Jaunty freezing.) Incidentally, I tried Linux Mint, which was a adaptation of Ubuntu 10.04 and had the same problem.

Ubuntu Installation :: Multip GPU - ATI HD 3600 - Mouse And Keyboard Freeze?

Apr 30, 2010

Multi GPU - Mouse and Keyboard Freeze once enabled Previously on Ubuntu Karmic I had multi GPU setup without a problem.System consists of three ATI radeon HD 3600 series (multi head) running 6 monitors.

Setting it up was was easy as on Microsoft windows. All I did was download the ati catalyst and issue the following command: aticonfig --initial=dual-head --adapter=all

That created the perfect xorg.conf. With the amdcccle desktop, I then rearranged the monitors around to my setup and enabled xinerama. I thus had a total of six monitors working without a problem. (Naturally with compiz turned off).

- UPGRADING TO LUCID BIGGEST MISTAKE -

Yesterday the update manager popped up Lucid Ubuntu 10.04 Release available. I upgraded. I got the same issue of fglrx.. Reading through Forum I deleted the /usr/share/ati folder. uninstalled the catalyst. Rebooted in safe mode and then re-installed via synatic fglrx and amdcccle. All went well.

I then issued the basic command.

aticonfig --initial -f

This created the standard xorg.conf. On rebooting machine. My first two screens (off the first Radeon HD 3600) worked fine, without a problem. (See attached file)

I then issued
aticonfig --initial=dual-head --adapter=all.
This created the long xorg.conf file for all the cards on the system to work.

BUMPER !! Machine reboots and right before the X login screen appears all of a sudden my monitor screen goes into "Digital Power saving mode" and the monitor goes to sleep. Keyboard and Mouse are not responsive (All freeze). No alternative but to cold boot the machine and restart.

I have tried everything, each time mouse and keyboard just freeze.

Ubuntu :: Random Mouse/keyboard Freeze In The Login Screen?

May 1, 2010

I downloaded and burnt the Kubuntu 10.04 release to a CD. I tried to install it. First time, couldn't find the disks and eventually it froze. Ok, second try, when it's contacting the "time server" (or whatever) another freeze, but this time I notice everything is running fine and then get a nice little image with the current time (increasing seconds and all). Third attemp, clicked the "update this installer" and it went fine. "Yay!" I thought. Well, a few minutes in my beautiful 10.04 system and again, another freeze. Hit the power button and to my surprise a "Shutdown" dialog shows up with a countdown. After 30 seconds it logs out and mouse is working again. I log back in and come here to write this long post, and as I was writing the title "Random mouse/ke..." guess what? Yeah, it froze again. And the little bar that goes after the writing continued happily blinking. Hit the power button but this time mouse and keyboard were still frozen in the login screen.

Short version: mouse and keyboard randomly freeze while the rest of the system apparently work fine.

CentOS 5 :: KDE Keyboard / Mouse Freeze / Buggy When Alt-tab'ing / Switching Between Windows

Jun 13, 2010

I'm a long time user of CentOS 5 w/KDE 3.5. I have always had this problem to various degrees no matter what installation of CentOS 5 I'm currently on. This same hardware does not exhibit the same symptoms with another OS.The problem is I regularly have many konsole instances open. I alt-tab between them frequently. Inevitably a random alt-tab will freeze the keyboard and the mouse won't be able to click anything although I can move the mouse cursor around. I can't type anything. It seems to have some sort of timeout and it always come back to responsiveness.

I alleviated this problem (I think) by switching keyboards, installing the nvidia driver instead of the nv driver, shutting down all non-essential services.I have seen these symptoms on every system I have installed CentOS 5 where KDE 3.5 was also installed. Very different hardware setups each time.Has anyone else run into similar symptoms?I'm surprised that it's just CentOS 5 w/KDE 3.5 that exhibits this behaviour on the same hardware where other operating systems (gentoo, suse, etc.) did not exhibit these symptoms.

Debian :: Cannot Resume After Hibernate

May 21, 2015

My system cannot resume after hibernation. I have done all as described here [URL] ...

My have set up swap file "/swap_debian".

I have 3 partitions: sda1: windows boot partition. sda2: windows 8.1. sda3 : debian

I have the only linux distro installed: debian.

I have read lots of web pages. I have managed to set up suspend 2 disk. After dancing 2 days at the computer the system still cannot resume. I am getting "clearing orphaned inode" msgs while booting, and when booted to ram was not recovered.

Swap file is 4000 MB, RAM is 3860 something MB

My current grub is:

Code: Select all# If you change this file, run 'update-grub' afterwards to update
# /boot/grub/grub.cfg.
# For full documentation of the options in this file, see:
#   info -f grub -n 'Simple configuration'

And yes, I did update-grub.

My current /etc/uswsusp.conf is:

Code: Select all# /etc/uswsusp.conf(5) -- Configuration file for s2disk/s2both
resume device = /dev/sda3
compress = y
early writeout = y
image size = 1855258869
RSA key file = /etc/uswsusp.key
shutdown method = platform
resume offset = 31606784

My current /etc/fstab is:

Code: Select all# /etc/fstab: static file system information.
#
# Use 'blkid' to print the universally unique identifier for a
# device; this may be used with UUID= as a more robust way to name devices
# that works even if disks are added and removed. See fstab(5).

Debian :: Hibernate Is Not Consistently Resuming

Jun 29, 2015

Although it's worked very consistently in the past, since moving to the newer kernels (3.16 or 4.0) on strech/sid, resuming from hibernation seems to randomly work -- sometimes it loads the image from swap, but other times it simply does a fresh boot. To troubleshoot, I've increase the size of swap and then updated 'fstab', the initramdisk, and grub -- but still no reliable behavior...

Debian :: When Suspend And Hibernate Screen Goes Black?

Feb 26, 2011

I am having some pain with my new Squeeze installation, I am not sure if I am asking to much of it or it is an easy fix.

Firstly my system is laptop which I regularly plug a second monitor into. The video adaptor is an ATI HD4550 mobile.

My problem is that when ever suspend or hibernate my system, and even sometime when I boot up the screen(s) are just blank, although sometime they don't, it always happens if I suspend by closing the lid of my laptop, and only sometime happend with through Gnome is go ->System->Shutdown->Suspend. This is really annoying.

Another issue which I think is connected is that as I said I have a second monitor (most of the time) and when I boot up then it works until I log in, then a message pops up say the configuration can not be applied and it revert to Mirror mode or it does this thing where it places the second screen inside (virtually) the built in Laptop panel, it will not let me fix this through the monitors dialog just displaying the same message. I can fix this by doing

invoke-rc.d gmd3 restart

This gets as far as killing Gnome them it prints an error the to console, at which point Imopen a new terminal by ctrl+alt+f2 and
invoke-rc.d gmd3 stop
invoke-rc.d gmd3 start

then it works fine and even remember that I set the secondary screen to be the primary monitor through xrandr.

I tried install fgrlx drivers instead but it didn't really fix the issue, so I removed them.

Debian Configuration :: Suspend And Hibernate Do Not Work At All

Sep 6, 2011

I've been running 6.0.2 amd64 stable since release day and recently have noticed my suspend and hibernate do not work. Normally I have transmission running and have set it to not enter sleep mode while torrents are active. However today I have not had transmission and was wanting to see if the sleep mode options would kick in. So I have set my display to "sleep when inactive for" 5 mins (this works perfect)
I have set "put computer to sleep when inactive for" 10 mins (this does not work at all)

When I try to manually test suspend my display flashes black for a few seconds but remains backlit, then asks me to log back in
When I manually go into hibernate mode my display turns off, pops back on for a second and in a terminal says something about a usb device (something failed but it happens so fast I cannot read it)
