I've created a package and added package conflicts entry in it's control file(in my case, all the lib-mesa packages). Now each package that depends on lib-mesa cannot be installed. How can i define my package as alternative to lib-mesa, so i can install those packages ? Is there a way i can add my package as an alternative in the package dependencies(the ones that depends on lib-mesa)?

Now if I just install it and ask :-

But I remember it being useful/needed somewhere.
ex: package A depends on package B, C and D I want to remove only C and D and leave A in a broken state. how?

Is there a way to tell that dependency already met ? Or should I just make mplayer-mt package by myself ? (this kinda work in ubuntu)
I was attempting to install the package 'gnustep-devel', but the package 'gorm.app' which gnustep-devel depends on is not available. I've checked in Synaptic's Settings->Repositories and I have all repositories enabled, and the package is available via a Debian repository... I'm pretty sure that there's a better place to report it than here, but I don't know where that is.

I'm trying to install Dell Openmanage, which requires sblim-sfcb.Normally this wouldn't be a problem but it requires LWP::UserAgent to be installed.However there are no RPMs for LWP::UserAgent. There are RPMs for perl-libwww-perl-5.805-1.1.1.noarch.rpm, which people say should work.However yum doesn't see anything with libwww as an option so that won't work either.Running CentOS 5.5
Note: I do have LWP::UserAgent installed via cpan, however the RPM won't compile without the actual LWP::UserAgent RPM installed.
Alsamixer is better now since one can press F6 to select the card and tune it. but well, ok, when one has several cards, if you have a mic, alsamixer is not bright and select it as first card, so one resutls into no sounds.OK, alsamixer is nice, but man, how to select a specific card and select it as defautl. Then at reboot, I wish to have sound. Is that possible with Linux or shall we wait a stable version of Debian whcih works, simply ?

I recently installed Squeeze. Almost every time I install software I have unresolvable dep errors. In my Software Sources Everything is checked Main, Contrib, Non-Free and source. I am running Debian squeeze and I am trying to install hplip-3.10.5 so I can use my new HP Photosmart C4750 printer.I downloaded the automatic installer and ran it and it gave me the following error message:
