View 4 RepliesI need to remove libgl1-mesa-swx11, as after I installed it, it has slowed down all my graphics. However, in SPM, it says in order to remove it, I have to remove most of my system, it seems as though it's "dependencies" involve everything to do with graphics, which I was running fine and much better before. So, how do I remove this package without removing dependencies?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI've created a package and added package conflicts entry in it's control file(in my case, all the lib-mesa packages). Now each package that depends on lib-mesa cannot be installed. How can i define my package as alternative to lib-mesa, so i can install those packages ? Is there a way i can add my package as an alternative in the package dependencies(the ones that depends on lib-mesa)?
View 1 Replies View RelatedIs there a way to find if a package is a dependency of some other package/s that you have installed it.
For instance, let's say there is a library called libkolabxml1
Now if I just install it and ask :-
Code: Select all$$ aptitude why libkolabxml1
Unable to find a reason to install libkolabxml1.
But I remember it being useful/needed somewhere.
In an attempt to minimize my system when I mark for removal libcups2 using synaptic it asks to install 7 not authenticated packages, however if I choose mark for complete removal it asks to install the same 7 packages and remove every single installed package from epiphany to gimp to zenmap. Any ideas as to whats going on with that?

I've installed Debian GNU/Linux, from a Testing NetInstall ISO, then after setting up the system, I've installed the KDE desktop.Well, I like to have a system with the applications I want, not the applications that the system wants for me, I mean, that's the point of GNU/Linux, isn't?
Thus I want to remove some applications from KDE, let's say KWrite. I know it's a good text editor, but Kate is way better, at least for me, and... I should have the authority to decide what applications I want on my system, I think you got the point. So I installed Kate, and when I try to remove KWrite, APT asks me to remove nothing but this applications: kde-baseapps kde-plasma-desktop.
I don't understand why do KDE forces me to get rid of the entire desktop... when I'm just trying to remove a single application, and a replacement it's already installed.
i'm running debian lenny - latest stable i have recently installed smartcam (mobile phone as webcam over bluetooth) from .deb package , get errors of unmet dependency , but application works like a charm, unfortunately broken dependences block my aptitude , i cant fix them either as latest stable use older versions of dependences even in backports... how do i mark smartcam package as not broken and release my apt?
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have logitech mx518 (mouse).Additional buttons did not work, so I googled a bit and tried different stuff. One of these is the package lomoco.I installed it via aptitude install and did not noticed any differences. So I tried to remove it with aptitude remove, but this seems not to have worked. The problem is, I get several warnings or error messages (or what ever) on startup about lomoco. So I would like to remove it completely.

View 2 Replies View RelatedHi,
I'm using my own Debian .deb-packages for managing software updates on a small numbers of computers. So this question is about creating my own .deb Packages.
I got the Package A with the version 1.0 and 2.0. From version 2.0 on it's not necessary to keep track of the file fileB.txt. But I want to keep fileB.txt on the target system anyway.
Code:
Package A Ver. 1.0:
- fileA.txt
- fileB.txt
Package A Ver. 2.0:
- fileA.txt
If I install the new .deb package A. DPKG will remove fileB.txt.
How can I prevent dpkg to remove fileB.txt? In fact, dpkg should simply forget that fileB.txt was ever part of Package A!
Of course I could manipulate the dpkg file list, somewhere in the dpkg cache (file system). But how can I achieve the same effect within a package -> without manual manipulation on the target system?
Is there any key word in the control file? Or is there a special file, which lists "dependencies to delete"?
Recently tried to install a new Wine package, but the install failed, so I removed it and reinstalled the old one. That installation also failed, and now the package is in a half-installed state and can neither be installed nor removed. I'd be most grateful for some help - I miss my Wine!
# apt-get install 0.9.47~winehq0~debian~4.0-1

# apt-get remove 0.9.47~winehq0~debian~4.0-1

What does it mean by "an archive", and where can I find one?
I have this package dependency question for a while. I have brand new Squeeze system. I selected desktop during installation. Gnome is default system but I turned off gdm3 and uses fluxbox as window manager. I understand if two packages are tied together funtionally so that removal of either package terminates one feature. Above cases, many small packages only depends on the core packages. The core packages work fine without games, other programs.
There are so many programs that I want to remove in the system. For examples, ekiga is a VoIP program that I never use it. When I tried to remove it using apt-get or aptitude, it suggests entire gnome packages will be removed also, which is illogical. The only solution I found is I need to manually remove the package files. I haven't tried it yet.
I faced on these days a very nasty problem, during the upgrading of my system... something bad happened and I can not remove, purge, install, reinstall the package flashplugin-nonfree no matter what tries I did till now. To see my tries please read bellow.Do any of you have any advanced advice how can solve this BIG problem that occurs to me?

VirtualBox is awesome tool for experiment and learning Linux. On the Linux guest OS, I installed standard system without Xorg.i expected it remove all the packages that come along with gnome-terminal previously.Only gnome-terminal was removed, 750kB free space. Now the system have 149MB packages as waste data IMHO.It doesn't look right to me.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSo, there are these source packages i downloaded, which i want to build with slightly different configure options due to a bug in debian: hfd5-serial and hdf5-openmpi cannot coexist, yet some packages require the serial version of the lib , others require the openmpi.
I downloaded the sources, in order to build them, without the hdf5 thing...
I have already built this from source in Scientific Linux, and i know this can be done without hdf5.
Where do i hack into the debian source tree of a package to remove a configure option...?

I was attempting to install the package 'gnustep-devel', but the package 'gorm.app' which gnustep-devel depends on is not available. I've checked in Synaptic's Settings->Repositories and I have all repositories enabled, and the package is available via a Debian repository... I'm pretty sure that there's a better place to report it than here, but I don't know where that is.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI know a bunch of commands and I am comfortable using the terminal, I even set a powerpc server but I can't figure out how to remove epiphany on this new computer I'm setting up. I didn't install anything with tasksel. I installed gnome and xorg afterwards... I load it up and 'startx' just fine. then I check around for the programs that were installed. I lik'em gimp, lot's of utilities. gedit. anyway I find epiphany, which I have already established that I dislike, I immediately go to the root terminal (another nice program that comes with gnome) and type apt-get remove epiphany-browser-data the output says it will be deleting gnome... however I have researched and found these are simpy meta packages that don't really matter.... however under the section that states all the packages that will be removed by autoremove there is a huge list... I doubt these packages are safe to remove. how to remove epiphany without removing a huge amount of probably needed software

The process went fairly smoothly once I figured out that evolution-data-server-2.32.2-1 must be installed first. Installing the data server package first eliminated all but 1 dependency problem in the main package installation. That 1 remaining dependency is where I?m stuck.
