I'm mad at my ignorance and hope some of you will be able to put me out of my misery I have an IBM X22 with Prism 2.5 Wavelan PCI chip with old firmware, which I want to renew in an attempt to get the Wifi working. Here the output of hostap_diag <wlan interface>:
Here is how I got flash to work in prism. Prism was working fine with flash in 9.10 but the 10.4 install caused it to stop working. After doing all of these with no success I decided to open up a terminal and see what the problem was.
Here is what I did prior to finding the problem: - Purged and reinstalled flash - Cleared my website storage cache from flash - Deleted all shortcuts to Prism - Deleted Prism settings (~/.prism) then purged and reinstalled Prism.
Finally, I decided to open up a terminal and see what was going on. I made a dummy Prism app on my desktop then copied and pasted the 'command' from the properties (right click > properties).
I pasted that in a terminal: Code: tye@T:~/Desktop$ "prism" -override "/home/tye/.webapps/dummy@prism.app /override.ini" -webapp dummy@prism.app It gave me the following output: Code: Attempting to load the system libmoon Segmentation fault
So, knowing that libmoon is part of moonlight I performed the following: Code: tye@T:~/Desktop$ aptitude search moonlight which provided me with this (omitting unimportant results) Code: i A moonlight-plugin-core - Free Software clone of Silverlight 2.0 - plugin core components i moonlight-plugin-mozilla - Free Software clone of Silverlight 2.0 - Xulrunner 1.9 plugin
So, I removed the packages and any related packages, like so: Code: tye@T:~/Desktop$ sudo apt-get purge moonlight-plugin-core moonlight-plugin-mozilla && autoremove Made a dummy prism app! Prism was working. So there you have it, moonlight is currently breaking prism. For now uninstall it if you want flash apps to work in prism.
IŽve set up a Squeeze System on an old Ibook G4 and, besides wlan, everything works fine.i guess i need some firmware, i have tried several things and couldnt resolve the problem. I am unsure which firmware i actually need, or of something else has to be done.iŽll post the outputs of ifconfig, iwconfig and lspci and hope someone who could guess the problem or find the solution with it.
If I want to compile a kernel from source (from kernel.org), including all the drivers I need regardless of their origin, I would not need any firmware-*.deb packages, right? Do the firmware packages add anything that is not present in the latest kernel?
In a specific context I want to automatically make operationnal some USB WiFI devices, deploying automaticaly firwmare (may be not free packages) depending on device ID (vendor ID/product ID). Dev device is a Netgear WNA1000 (driver ath9k, with htc_9271.fw firmware).
I tried to reset the USB bus (modprobe -vr ehci_hcd; modprobe -v ehci_hcd) but it's not really reliable, with sometimes kernel panic.
Is there an "official" way to "mount" the device (the system create the device wlan0) just after deploying the firmware? Maybe using udev ?
I know very little about Debian but have an ASUS T100TA tablet which runs fairly well under Debian 8 Jessie (kernel 3.16.0-4-686-pae). I used the following guide successfully to activate the wireless but am having trouble with the audio section of it.URL...
First, I went here and downloaded the file called 'NEW T100_B.state'.URL....
Then I copied it to /var/lib/alsa/asound.state and ran 'alsactl restore' which reported that i had no soundcards.I then downloaded and expanded linux-firmware-master-intel.tar.gz but am not sure what to do with these files. I copied them to /lib/modules/3.16.0-4-686-pae/kernel/drivers/firmware as they are specific for this kernel, but they don't seem to be doing anything and 'alsactl restore' still tells me that I don't have a soundcard. What do I need to do with these files?
update-initramfs: Generating /boot/initrd.img-2.6.32-3-686 W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl8168d-2.fw for module r8169 W: Possible missing firmware /lib/firmware/rtl8168d-1.fw for module r8169
Anyone knows how I can fix this. According this "log" it seems to be that the firmware have been moved/removed?.. [URL]
It is the firmware for the network card, but it works fine....
I installed linux-image-4.1.0-trunk, when I boot into the kernel there's no wireless available. Dmesg indicates seems like the firmware is loaded, although firmware-iwlwifi is installed: ... [ 11.047031] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: firmware: failed to load iwlwifi-7265D-13.ucode (-2) [ 11.047039] iwlwifi 0000:04:00.0: Direct firmware load for iwlwifi-7265D-13.ucode failed with error -2
I got firefox on my debian machine following the following steps- getting the necessary packages with apt-get update && apt-get install xorg iceweasel bzip2 libdbus-glib-1-2- downloading the latest version of Firefox on http://getfirefox.com- extract the firefox-3.6.13.tar.bz2 in the /usr/local/src folder- symlink the firefox folder that was created to /usr/local/bin withln -s /usr/local/src/firefox/firefox /usr/local/binNow, as I was looking for an easy way to have the latest version of flash running on firefox, I found this site: http://fixunix.com/ubuntu/239011-firefo ... pdate.htmland applied what was said on the last reply but it didn't workI also found this thread and gave it a try:viewtopic.php?f=6&t=42905&p=347986&hilit=flash+10+firefoxbut I got a 'command not found' whenever I try a update-flashplugin-nonfree --install
I have installed a minimal system with openbox window decorator. (without any window manager) when i insert a flash disk to my computer, system doesn't mount it automaticly. i must mount it to a folder to use it.
I enabled java and flash in Iceweasel 3.5.16 via the related/required packages in the repository so flash-nonfree (or whatever it is) and the related java one. I didn't install either flash or java manually so no plugins that way. Flash and java works in Iceweasel. If I wanted to try Swiftfox, what do I do? I have it installed but both flash and java don't work.
I assume that one has to do the manual installs for both so go to both Flash and Java official sites and install the related Linux package. Will this conflict with my Iceweasel-based java/flash packages? Or do they go in separate directories and files? I don't want a conflict or interference and thus, don't want to break what's working.
im am new in compiling kernel, i had kernel 2.6.32-5 on debian 6 , so i compiled kernel 2.6.38.6 , my system can boot and up but i have a problem with flash disk and CDs and DVDs , now i cant mount these cases, in compiling i select CD-ROM /dvd filesystem and Dos/fat/NTFs filesystem too
They have broken something in their download site and it is no longer possible to get the latest flash player in a .deb package by direct download. The FTP site is years out of date. And there is no way to get through the "help' system to contact the people running the web site.
So does some third party offer the latest flash player in a .deb package for download?
I thought this might interest someone out there:[URL].. I used SD cards with MBR formatted as ext2 for backup. After I read these articles, I reformatted my cards with GUID Partition Table and ext4 format. Now I make my backup in half the time!
i set up an ltsp server on debian squeeze. after a standard installation, sound doesn't work on clients.
[code]...
when i start iceweasel normally (executed on server side), i get sound on the client. when i start ltsp-localapps iceweasel, i get no sound on flash sites and videos videos.what's wrong ? with local apps, is it possible that the flashplugin-nonfree doesn't talk to alsa ?
so its not that difficult after all - just use PRISM!log into hotmail on your browser - copy the http: line and add it to PRISM then add your login detail and Voila! all ready to add to the task bar!ok so not the most in depth how-to but if youve been messing about with all the different email apps using Prism will be childs play! if not just message me and ill add more detail.
can't find the prism package in natty. what happend to it? is there anything that replaces prism in natty? i have used prism in combination with the compiz widget layer for certain webpages i had to have on every desktop. was very handy indeed.
I just now down loaded firmware-brcm80211, I want to put it on a usb stick, so that when I am installing debian, and it asks to insert the "medium" that has the driver, I have it on a usb stick.
My question, do I just copy the package to the device(usb stick), or do I need to extract it onto the stick ?
I have just installed 505 on an old laptop, and it's running sweet, I'm trying to get the builtin wireless lan to work and have downloaded the atmel_at76c506.bin driver but I'm not sure what to do with it at this stage, have installed network-manager too,
I've just installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my old X30 alongside my fully working 8.04 and have strange wifi problems under 10.04 (under 8.04 it worked out of the box): - no available networks are shown - running "sudo iwlist scanning" results in "eth1 Interface doesn't support scanning : Device or resource busy" - without any wireless configuration from my side I get this: sudo iwconfig eth1 eth1 IEEE 802.11b ESSID:"gxC6isQxFFJxEC)xCDxBAxAB xF2xFBxE3F|xC2TxF8x1BxE8xE7x8DvZ.c3x9FxC 9x9A" Mode:Managed Frequency:2.467 GHz Access Point: None Bit Rate:11 Mb/s Sensitivity:1/0 Retry short limit:8 RTS thrff Fragment thrff Encryption keyff Power Managementff Link Quality=90/70 Signal level=-8 dBm Noise level=-147 dBm Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:63 Rx invalid frag:0 Tx excessive retries:1 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0 A very strange ESSID there appearing out of nowhere...
I can't my system because of this error: Code: linux-firmware: /lib/firmware/radeon/R700_rlc.bin exists in filesystem Note that in the beginning, it asks:
Code: :: Replace kernel26-firmware with core/linux-firmware? [Y/n] There are so many updates by now that the list fills in a few pages in the terminal! Also, I wonder why so many Arch updates get stuck or broken compared to almost any other distro? Is it poorly designed packages? Is it a design flaw in pacman/the package format?
after installing Ubuntu Natty Narwhal 11.04, I'm experiencing tons and tons of complications with the wireless Internet connection. I have solved most of them. Now I have only one thing left. When I hit the drop-down menu for wireless connections, it says "Wireless connection (Firmware missing)"
I have installed the driver for my wireless card but what is the firmware? I honestly don't know what it is although it's very basic. I have a Broadcom 43xx as my wireless card (specifically 4306). How do I get the firmware for it? Do I find it in Windows? Also I cannot get b43-fwcutter because I have absolutely to Internet connection on Ubuntu. To post this, I'm using Windows.
I'm having an issue with the installation. I've downloaded the live ISO and put it on my USB. Everything appeared fine except for the wireless because it requires non-free firmware. The installation tells me that I can insert a USB device with the firmware on it, so I ran to a different computer to download it off the manufacturer's website and put it on the root of another USB.
However, when the installation tries to detect the firmware on the USB, it fails.
The installation is claiming to look for rt2561.bin. I have placed this in the root of the USB as well as the .zip file it came in and a .bz2 file for manual installation of the firmware. Unfortunately, I cannot install the firmware manually either because the system is missing various commands (make, etc.). I am assuming these would be installed automatically with an internet connection.
I have recently upgraded my netbook from 10.04 LTS desktop to 10.10 netbook as I really like the new unity feature.Anyway, I have a couple of prism shortcuts that I use for both my personal and work webmail (both are google apps). When I open them I select them to stay in launcher so they are always accessible. Problem is - as soon as I reboot my machine the prism shortcuts disappear from the Unity launcher. All my other shortcuts like chrome, file browser, open office etc all stay...it's just the prism shortcuts.Has anyone else found the same problem? I have searched the forums and can't find anything.PS Just in case any of you don't know, prism is a tool that lets you create a shortcut to any webpage, with a custom icon and a cut-down version of your browser (i.e. no tool bars cluttering the page) so the shortcut almost works like it's own application.
I recently installed Debian Jesse (Gnome) onto a laptop with a Broadcom BCM4360 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter. It does not recognize wireless internet.
I have followed all steps (linked below) to install necessary firmware, but receive this error at the last step:
i'd like to install the b43 firmware driver on my laptop without internet connection. It requires internet connection to download the firmware-b43-installer...tar.bz2. I have this tar.bz2 on my hard drive, the problem is i don't know how to make debian use that for the install, instead of trying to download it.
