Debian :: Chromium Download PDFs Instead Of Opening By Default
Aug 15, 2010I see it wants to download them instead of opening them. How can I change the behaviour for PDF files to be opened by the default PDF app?

Like [Okular-devel]bug report okular started to crash when opening some pdf files after upgrade to kde 4.3.4 I found out that the probelm was not actually in kde but another update - at some point poppler (libpoppler4, libpoppler-qt4-3 and others) was updated to 0.10.1-1.7.1 but okular did not work fine with it any more. I solved the problem by downgrading poppler back to 0.10.1-1.4 (repo-oss) and all pdfs worked fine again. The bug report above states that newer okular would need actually newer poppler (0.12.x) but it is not provided at least for opensuse 11.1 yet.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am trying to download all the Heroes graphic novels off the nbc site. Originally I was downloading them via the provided links but with ~170 pdfs to download it was going to take a while I used wget to start downloading them a bit faster, I tried the command
$wget -N -r -l inf -p -np -k -A '.pdf' url
in an attempt to download all the pdfs at once, I got an error message

Is this something I've done wring or something nbc have done to stop the use of wget?
When I upgraded from debian lenny to squeeze, my iceweasel browser was upgraded at the same time (3.5.15), and I'm having difficulty getting it to function as it used to.When I visit sites that link to PDF files, they download automatically, when what I want is for the PDF to be displayed by the browser. I have Applications for PDF set to Always Ask.I have PDF Download as an extension, and under its Preferences I have Open PDF as default action, using the xpdf utility on the host, opened in same tab, caught by name. I do not have a PDF plugin. Is the PDF Download extension forcing a download rather than display of the PDF in the browser?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI tried the Googles praised Chromium browser and while it seems to render pages fast enough and has a really nice interface, I experienced an annoying responsiveness problem. Opening a link in a background tab seems to stall the browser almost completely until the page has been loaded and rendered. For example scrolling the page that I'm currently viewing becomes almost impossible. The same actually applies to the current tab too, of course. If the page in the tab hasn't been loaded completely, scrolling is really really clumsy. I tried disabling the installed extensions and also tried experimenting with some command line options, but no help there.
View 4 Replies View RelatedThis morning I thought I'd give Chromium a bash. I use Chrome daily, and wanted to see what the differences where. After installing Chromium from the software centre this morning, I went to >tools>Extensions to load the the same on Chromium as I use on chrome. To my surprise the Google Chrome web store puts a banner at the top of the page that says:
Quote: we don't support your browser just yet. You'll need Google Chrome to install apps, extensions and themes.Which of course I already have chrome downloaded and installed via PPA, but that is besides the point.what can be done to rectify this. Surely Chromium browser allows the download and installing of extension?
I use chromium on ubuntu 10.10.
I have just noticed, while waiting for exam results, that the pdf containing results would not show, because chromium appears to have saved the old pdf and won't update it.
When I opened the pdf using an incognito window it worked fine and also firefox worked fine.
So I've been poking around google and trying to figure out if there's an answer - or at least a semi-solution to this problem, and have come up with nothing. I've just recently installed Chromium and since I've had it on my Windows 7 install, I'm trying to set it as my default browser, but for some reason it doesn't seem to stay my default browser.
Opening and closing it seems to erase the setting as it always tells me that "Chromium is not your default browser, would you like to make it your default?" And I don't know why.
It keeps asking if I want to set it as default.I always press 'yes' and when I exit and open it again it asks the same question...If I say 'never ask me again' it stops, but continues after I reboot the computer..
EDIT: I also deleted Firefox
How do I set chromium as the default browser?
View 5 Replies View RelatedFor some reason, i cannot set my default browser to Chromium. Whenever i open up Chromium, it asks whether it should be the default browser or not. I say yes i mean "Set as default" But nothing happens. When i open it again, i am greeted with the same question again.
View 3 Replies View RelatedDoes anyone know of any download manager that allows you to time your downloads to start off at certain times / hours et cetera? I currently use DownThemAll! as an extension in my Firefox, but I don't think that has such a capability. I would prefer a browser extension, but if there's an application that would do I'd be thankful if you could name it.
I need this so that I time my downloads at certain hours and have them run automatically, due to the fact that my ISP allows some uncharged hours at night which I basically never made use of (but now I have to, as my free data download limit is close to being used up).
I installed chromium through the software center but every time I open it up it reminds me that it is not the default browser. I click "make default" every time but my computer still makes firefox the default browser. How do I change this?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI print something with cups-pdf. The pdf appears, it LOOKS as it should, BUT if i actually select text from the pdf viewer and try to paste it somewhere, i get messed up characters (sometimes no characters). So this means that searching too is out of the question i guess.
Why is this happening? I dont know if its a ghostscript issue because on Windows there are several gs based pdf printers and those create perfectly searchable pdfs. Is this a cups/cups-pdf specific issue?
PS Printing through the "Print to file" dialog creates good pdfs but i dont know how to replicate that via command line.
I've run into some problems while trying to install iTunes onto my system (Ubuntu 10.10) using Wine. I've installed Wine and configured everything properly, and then I download iTunes. I've tried downloading several versions, including 7.2 (older version) and the newest version (iTunes 10). However, when I try to open this downloaded file, I get the message:

The OpenOffice word processor can open and read Microsoft Word files containing XML (.docx) perfectly well, but it--or KDE--does not seem to recognize a .docx by default. To open one with OpenOffice, I have to manually tell OpenOffice to open it, by going through the "open with" option on the right-click menu and specifying soffice. That's obviously not a problem, but it's a minor curiosity. Haven't Word XML files been around long enough that KDE and OpenOffice should recognize them immediately?
I'm not quite sure which to blame this on--KDE or OpenOffice--but KDE seems more logical. And is this a small limitation of KDE 3.5? because I'm still using 3.5. (I'm trying to switch over to Trinity, but have not made the switch yet.)
I have this problem, however the solution given there is outdated- There is no such menu entry (I tried to see if it was disabled, but it wasn't in the menu editor either).
So how would I do this in Karmic?
Edit: I found it. As a reference: Open Nautilus, go to Edit-> Preferences -> "Media" tab -> Photos -> Your choice.
I automount two NTFS volumes on login. These display in both the desktop and the Unity launcher.
The first time I clicked one of them in the Unity launcher, it asked if I wanted to use Nautilus or Thunar. I chose Thunar.
Now, when I open the volumes in the Unity launcher, it always uses Thunar. When I open the volumes on my desktop, it always uses Nautilus.
Is there any way to standardize these, so that I use either Thunar or Nautilus, but not both? And how do I switch back and forth? Where can I reset the Unity launcher to use Nautilus again?
I just started using FireFTP instead of FileZilla because I got fed up with FileZilla not opening remote files and not recognising the default editor Gedit.
I really want to use keyboard shortcuts with FireFTP, which is possible according to the help docs on-line, but there is no option to use shortcuts anywhere even having enabled FireFTP to open in a new window. I tried it in Shiretoko 3.59 and Firefox 3.18 with no luck.
I just tried removing FileZilla and it does not appear in my list of installed apps. It appears in the full list as uninstalled but when ticking the box to install gives this message. FileZilla FTP client cannot be installed on your computer type (i386). Either the application requires special hardware features or the vendor decided to not support your computer type. I already have FileZilla..so how is that?
I often use the option in Chromium to create 'application shortcuts'. These are instances of Chromium that make a website look more like an app by not including most of Chromium's toolbars. I use it for gmail and google docs and spreadsheets and calendar. In 11.04 I have set up Desktop launchers and copied them across to the Launcher (what an odd way to add something to the launcher, why no right-click 'add launcher' option?)
The problem is that the launcher thinks all these apps are chromium (which they are really, but I would like them to be seen as separate apps). If I minimize my gmail window, a little triangle appears next to the chromium icon, not the gmail icon. To get the window back, I have to click on the Chromium icon. Clicking on the gmail icon launches a new instance of it (also tied to the Chromium icon).
if i run chromium with --enable-gpu-rendering flag chromium's display looks like it's shattered into thousands of pieces and I can't understand a thing. This doesn't happens if I have a previous instance of chromium opened in the usual way, without any flag. In this case if I open another chromium window with the --enable-gpu-rendering flag it's display looks ok, but I can't figure out what's the problem and how could this be fixed if there's solution for it of course.
