Debian :: Cannot Mount 3 NFS Drives After Web Server IP Changed

Someone in my dept rather stupidly changed an IP of a webserver, and ever since we changed it back we cannot mount 3 NFS drives.
The Error
Code:
HTTP1:/etc# /etc/init.d/networking restart
Reconfiguring network interfaces...if-up.d/mountnfs[eth0]: lock /var/run/network/mountnfs exist, not mounting
if-up.d/mountnfs[eth1]: lock /var/run/network/mountnfs exist, not mounting
done.
I have removed that lock file and tried a

mount -a
but it just hangs?
The FSTAB hasn't changed at all, and the other web servers can mount to the NFS share fine. I have tried alot, removing the lock file and rebooting etc but no luck. Debian Lenny.

so I setup a raid ten system and I was wondering what that difference between the active and spare drives is ? if I have 4 active drives then 2 the two stripes are then mirrored right?

I have a problem that i have tried to solve for a couple of days.server with some internal disks. Those disks are for the core-system and some file server related stuff.Beside the server i got two external LaCie boxes that contains 4x1tb disks each. The disks inside the boxes are RAID5, so the system sees every box as one whole "disk".Now to the problem. I just can�t get those "two" RAID cofigurations two be auto mounted at boot. I have tried to put them in /etc/fstab with a whole bunch of different options but nothing works. The system sees them but don't auto mount them, and i can manually mount them without any problem at all. I have tried to "google" the problem but can't find any similar

I'm running KDE in Jessie and also have Gnome installed. When I connect a usb drive it gets mounted at /media/username/disklabel. I would like to have it mounted at /media/disklabel which is how it worked in Wheezy. How can I make that change?

How to mount multiple external HDD's. I'd like to link or mount the music, torrents, and general files from several external hard drives and apply permissions (in some cases I only want the mount or link to be read only).
My setup:
- Seagate Dockstar running Debian squeeze (it's headless so I don't have a gui running)
- Two external HDD's with one partition on each (250GB and 400GB)
What I'd like to accomplish:
1. Mount the external HDD's to /media/HDDs as read/write (this is already working using udev and autofs and it's available in samba)
2. I'd like the MUSIC directories on both external HDD's to show up under the same mount point. In other words I want the MUSIC folders (from both HDD's) to appear as one large library of music. And I only want this to be readonly. It will be used as the library for mpd and/or squeezebox.
3. Mount a directory used to download torrents to. I'll probably pick on HDD as the target for torrent dowloads. But let me know if you have any other ideas regarding this.
Since I have the first one done, how would I accomplish 2 & 3?

Sometimes when I plug in a USB flash drive, it is mounted to /dev/usb0 instead of /dev/drivename. This poses a problem for me because I have applications that depend on files I keep on flash drives, and having to frequently change the file paths is difficult. I haven't been able to find anything on this topic with a cursory search on Google or through the Debian reference. Heck, I don't even know what /dev/usb0 is (though I would like to learn, in the interest of being less of a noob). This is happening on a Squeeze system running Gnome, so I believe nautilus is what's responsible for auto-mounting my flash drives.
Beyond that, I don't know what other information I should provide; if you need to know something else, ask me (and perhaps tell me how to access that information). Someone on IRC suggested that I didn't have my drives set to mount in /dev/, but I have no idea how I would go about fixing that. If there's a configuration file that deals with this sort of thing, chances are I haven't touched it since installing this system. Debian installer sees usb drive as cd drive, so it adds it in fstab, but with wrong file system options (udf,iso9660) which is not the one your flash drive uses.

mounting any usb thumb drives. The result is the same whether it is automounted or mounted via the CLI. The drives all have root:root file permissions and cannot be changed to my normal user "ramack". There doesn't appear to be any errors and it is limited to only this Acer Aspireone Netbook running i386 Testing. I don't have anything in my fstab in regards to mounting usb drives.

I am trying to recover some data on some drives that are in the same LVM. When I upgraded the motherboard, I had complications getting the drives to all load under the LVM, and in the process I made the mistake of formatting one of the drives. The problem now is that the UUID changed on the drive so when I try to mount the LVM it can't find device with a certain UUID. When I try to set the UUID back to the old one it says 'Invalid UUID format'.
I can set it to a UUID generated through 'uuidgen', si I then noticed that the format of that UUID is different than the old one which I'm trying to set it to. Why is that? Is there a way I can get it to change to the old one in the different format?

I've been using dhcpd for address assignments to PCs for a very long time with no issues. I recently upgraded from lenny to squeeze and now dhcpd seems to have new behavior which I can't seem to change. Here's what I want to do. First, I have a simple situation and don't want to get involved with dynamic DNS updates. I have host statements for each of my PCs and a range statement for cases where I install a new device and don't yet have a host statement for it. Previously, I could discover the ethernet address for the new device from the dhcpd log and add a host statement with an address of my choosing for the new device.
I'd then restart dhcpd and do something like reboot the device or issue an ipconfig /renew statement on the new PC. What would happen is that the old dynamically assigned IP address would be NAKed and the device would do a DHCPDISCOVER, etc. and get the new IP address I specified in the dhcpd.conf host statement. In squeeze, this no longer works. The client asks for the old address it got dynamically and the server just says yes. I can't seem to find a way to get it to NAK the dynamic address and use the new address I've specified in the host statement. I'd appreciate any enlightenment on how this is now supposed to be done. Here's my simplified dhcpd.conf file:
authoritative;
log-facility daemon;
ddns-update-style none;

Note that the address here was assigned based on a previous range statement and isn't consistent with the above config file.

I recently installed virtual box on debian and after it had finished my terminal informed me that I could remove some "unnecessary" software by use of sudo apt-get autoremove. When I did this, some of the icons on the desktop changed and all of the icons in the drop down menu on the bar at the top of the screen also changed to ordinary folder symbols. The theme that I was using also went away. I restarted the computer and it booted back into a shell prompt with no GUI. I tried to get back to the GUI using alt+f7 but it didn't seem to exist

So I'm running proftpd on an old machine just for my own backup purposes, but I'm running out of space. I was wondering if it would be safe/efficent to set up an additional USB hard drive to the LVM drive that I have now? As in, would it write quick enough (USB 2.0), read quick enough and not corrupt data?

I have recently set up an ubuntu installation on an old PC. After some fiddling with both it, and the windows 7 machine, I have managed to share all of my drives. However, when attempting to access them from ubuntu, only 2 of the 4 hard disk shares will mount, with the other 2 failing with a Unable to mount location, failed to mount windows share error message.

I am building a home server that will host a multitude of files; from mp3s to ebooks to FEA software and files. I don't know if RAID is the right thing for me. This server will have all the files that I have accumulated over the years and if the drive fails than I will be S.O.L. I have seen discussions where someone has RAID 1 setup but they don't have their drives internally (to the case), they bought 2 separate external hard drives with eSata to minimize an electrical failure to the drives. (I guess this is a good idea)I have also read about having one drive then using a second to rsync data every week. I planned on purchasing 2 enterprise hard drives of 500 MB to 1 GB but I don't have any experience with how I should handle my data

I just installed Debian 5.0.4 successfully. I want to use the PC as a File Server with two Drives configured as a RAID 1 device. Everything with the RAID device works fine, the only question I have belogs to the GRUB 0.97 Booloader. I would like to be able to boot my Server even if one of the disks fail or the filesystem containing the OS becomes corrupt, so I configured only the data partitions to be a RAID 1 device, so on the second disk should be a copy of the last stable installation, similar to this guide:[URL]...

I have a 1TB hard drive which is formatted with FAT32. Attempting to make a new partition I clicked the format drive button in Disc Utility. I chose Master Boot Record and something was written to the drive. So now I can't mount the drive and Disc Utility says that there aren't any partitions. I don't think this can be true because I had 200 GB of data on the drive and it would have taken longer to delete all that. At least I think...

I just installed openSUSE 11.2, but I can't use my two optical disk drives /dev/sr0 and /dev/sr1 because the operating system can't find them. These drives aren't listed in my fstab file:

I am having problem mounting my 2nd hdd and external hdd, it keeps giving error msg saying only root can do it.

I have recently installed Ubuntu 10.10 on my machine as dual boot using WUBI but on a seperate partition to Windows. Loving it so far, but i cannot get any external drives to mount - i've tried pen drives, camera memory cards and hard drives but nothing comes up.
I have just tried restarting with a pen drive plugged in, and it finally showed something in the computer folder - "memory stick drive" is shown (and my internal CD drive, which i'm not sure was there before.), but i still can't access it and when I try to unmount it gives me the message

I have an Acer Aspire 3500 laptop that I'm running 10.04 on, pretty much everything works OK, and I don't appear to have any hardware problems (I've checked using Gnome Device Manager). When I plug in a USB flash or hard drive, I don't get any drives/devices to mount, although in Gnome Device Manager the USB device appears as a USB Mass Storage Device.
Running tail -f /var/log/messages produces this:
