Debian :: 99% Cpu Usage Due To Flush-8:0 & Flush-8:16?

Server :: Mysql "flush Logs" Or "flush Tables With Read Lock?

Jan 15, 2010

policy is to backup mysql with mysql-zrm.However at a certain stage it hangs forever. This is at the "flush logs". I tried this manually and it gave the same result. Even after restarting mysql and the host. After some googling and trying I found out "flush tables with read lock" gives the same result. The tables seem to be MyIsam. I tried with a mysqldump on one server and restore it on a test vm. I used the same config and flush logs still hangs. ALso I tried to change some configuration directives... but with the same result

Edit: btw, I checked the logfile and didn't found anything (/var/log/mysqld.log)

Edit2: I also did myisamchk -s *.MYI (in all direcoties with db files;actually did it with find command) and it did not return anything so datafiles seem ok.

Debian :: How To Flush Printer Queue

Mar 16, 2011

I have an HP printer for my Lenny which has worked for some year. But I don't remember what method I used to install it. So this is one piece of the puzzle that I can't see. But like I said the printer works. One day I accidentally printed more than I had papers in the printer-machine. Then I kind of stacked a lot of print jobs in the queue out of frustration. So whenever I reboot the PC/Lenny then it waste some paper by printing things that got stuck in the printer queue. It's not very environmental this weird behavior.

So next time this happens how do I flush the Printer queue so Lenny doesn't remember what happened before the reboot? I followed these instructions earlier but it only switched one weird behavior with another weird behavior. So it didn't work for my Lenny, and I couldn't find any better solutions on the Internet. Ubuntu :: Xfs Inode Flush Bugs - Threat Or Menace?

Jul 1, 2010

I was rather intrigued by the large number of xfs bug fixes in the recent kernel update for Lucid.

Code:
aptitude changelog linux-image-2.6.32-23-server | grep -c xfs:
20
20!

Poking around reveals that one Dave Chinner, Principal Engineer -- SGI Australian Software Group, submitted a series of patches to deal with preventing the flushing of stale inodes. I'm trying to figure out just how relevant those patches are to the stability of XFS, especially to pre-Lucid Ubuntu systems: are they in danger of data loss? Some quick search results thrown together in an effort to asses this issue:[URL]..Quote:

Dave Chinner (9):
xfs: Don't flush stale inodes
xfs: Ensure we force all busy extents in range to disk
xfs: reclaim inodes under a write lock
xfs: Avoid inodes in reclaim when flushing from inode cache

Ubuntu Servers :: Su As Backup User Inside Of Bash Script - Lock And Flush Tables On A Mysql Db

Jan 23, 2010

I am attempting to write a backup script that will do the following:

1) lock and flush tables on a mysql db
2) dump the db to a file
3) unlock the tables
4) rsync the file to offsite storage

It all seems to be going well. However, obviously I don't want to setup ssh to the storage server on another network as the root user without a password. so I am attempting to su as the backup user inside of the script but when I try to run the script everything happens as it should until I try to so.. then it jumps out of the script .. akss me to login as the backup user.. proceeds to rsync to the offsite storage it does all this and then resumes execiting the script. it is not going to be setup as a cron job. it will be executed manually. assuming that is the case, how can I get the script to run without prompting for a password?

Here is what I've come up with so far... assuming that the script is run as root and the identity of the backup user will need to be assumed inside the script without perstering the user to enter the backup user's password.

Server :: Debian 5.0.6 Too Much RAM Usage

Oct 30, 2010

I'd been using Directadmin on my Debian 5.0 machine earlier . I had 1GB ram and a lot of memory was used up. Sometimes even the OS crashed as the programs couldn't allocate memory. I increased my RAM to 3GB but still the RAM usage sometimes just flow up to 1GB although normally DirectAdmin doesn't use more than 200MB . Restarting the server fixes the issue but then it climbs up again and comes down to a 200-400MB again by itself. Cached Memory was also being too much and sometimes even Swap Partition gets used up .Just to be sure that it's not the Bugged OS, today I installed the latest Debian 5.0.6 Net-inst on my machine . I allocated just 128MB of ram to it because it was just a testing machine. I installed it without the swap partition since I thought I will make a swap-file if it is required. I did not even update the OS rather I just installed Openssh-server and everything else was default as in Debian 5.0.6 . When server started, only 20MB ram was being used .

I just logged into my server afer about 5 hours and saw 112 MB ram being used out of which 91MB was cached. I haven't installed anything so why is this happening ?Why is this happening when I just installed the default Operating System and didn't even run an apt-get update on it.I think my previous operating system with Directadmin was also having similar issues.

Debian :: Gnash Causing 100% CPU Usage?

Mar 27, 2011

I just installed Debian 6.0 on an older box, the CPU is an AMD K6-2 (with 3D Now) 500MHz, with 512Mb of on-board memory.

I installed this with the LXDE as the desktop environment and it includes a CPU usage graph (colored green) on the LXDE panel, by default. Based on my past experience with Linux, LXDE runs faster on this hardware than XFCE or Gnome.

When I use a web browser on this system, whether it is Iceweasel or Chromium, the CPU usage spikes up to 100%.

I believe Gnash may have something to do with this. I removed gnash which also removed browser-plugin-gnash and went to the same sites afterwards, the CPU usage then dropped considerably.

I realize that the CPU is somewhat slow (compared to today's processors), but why would Gnash (and probably by extension, Adobe Flash Player as well) use up all the CPU resources?

The installed video card is an nVIDIA GeForce 2 MX400 (PCI) with 32Mb of on-board video memory. I have another video card that could be used, a 3dfx Voodoo3 2000 PCI with 16Mb of on-board video memory. which I believe is also supported by xorg. The monitor is a Sceptre X9G-Naga III LCD, 19", resolution is 1024x768 (the maximum listed in the settings).

Debian :: Memory Usage On A Squeeze System?

Mar 16, 2011

I use a Debian Squeeze system running off a flash drive, i.e. based on a custom Live image running in persistent mode. It runs great and I am grateful for the existence of Debian . However, I have a question. A lot of the machines I use this pen drive on are quite old, often with 512 MB RAM and old processors. I specifically built my system using XFCE and lightweight apps off an initial live image using the standard-x11 package list (basically just Xorg with drivers and the base system). At first things ran very well, blazing fast even on the oldest systems and could comfortably run Firefox along with LibreOffice side by side (I need LO as all of my colleagues use Word docs, often with track changes, which Abiword can't handle properly). However, over time, I've found that memory usage has risen, tot he point where Firefox is now automatically killed on the older systems every time I start LibreOffice.how does one figure out why memory usage is going up? I've checked for inessential services and turned them off with "insserv -r". I've used only lightweight apps, as mentioned before. Are there other general tips on reducing memory usage?

Debian :: X File - Massive Mobile Data Usage

May 29, 2015

I have been using Wheezy for two years, and everything was OK, so I decided to upgrade to Jessie. In fact i decided to perform a clean install of jessie, so I formatted the partition where Wheezy was installed, and the /boot partition, and I installed jessie in those partitions.

As I had done with Wheezy, I installed jessie in an encrypted LVM, and the installation was ok (well, almost everything was OK, because grub and plymouth were not working, but I will open another topic about it).

First thing I did after installing Jessie was editting sources.list in order to download a few programs (plymouth, firmware linux non free, libdvdcss2, gufw, menulibre). Moreover, I downloaded a few progrmas from the Debian install DVD (flashplugin, VLC, chromium, clamav). i did not perform a dist upgrade because i was not at home, and where I was I did not have a Wifi connection (so I was using my mobile connecion -USB ethernet with an android phone-. BTW I had just performed a hard reset I had not installed any apps after that, so that mobile phone was "clean").

After that, I created a desktop user account, and I rebooted the laptop . When i rebooted, I started to tweak my user account: I edited dconf, and the gnome shell theme; and I started my mobile connection to download three extensions for gnome shell (window list, simple dock and activities configurator. I had used those extensions with Wheezy, and I had never had any problems). Ten minutes after I started the mentioned mobile connection, I reveived a SMS as I had used over 300 MB. Gnome monitor showed that I have downloaded 300 MB, and the android native data usage app showed the same. I did not download any video or music neither watch any videos on youtube, dailymotion..., I did not visit any suspicious web

I had a look at the apt logs and I din not find anything significant (I was using a no sudo user account, so i was not able to perform a dist.upgrade), I had a look at the download, video, music, picture folders and i din not find anything. I tried to check the iceweasel cache folder, but there were so many subfolders I could not check everything.

Debian :: Network Bandwidth Usage Monitoring Application?

Jun 7, 2010

I just wanted to use a network bandwidth usage monitoring application. Scenario: I am using an EV-DO based USB broadband modem with a limited GB plan. For additional data usage they charge per MB. Currently I use either wvdial (mostly) or pon to start the connection. So if there is any network monitoring application which could log time used and data used for the session, it would be great. Actually debian has too many different network monitoring applications, But I am not sure which one suits well for this purpose.
