CentOS 5 :: Setup Ftp Or Http Server For Netinstall Of 5.5?

My ISP has a bad habit of killing nearly all sustained FTP transfers (reset packet to my router and the remote host) and I need to install CentOS 5.5 on an older pc that doesn't have a DVD drive. My solution would be to (temporarily) turn on IIS on my laptop and extract the contents of the DVD to the ftp dir, but do I simply just drop everything in there with the same directory structure as the DVD or is there a particular way I should set up the directories?
I have been beating my head for the last few weeks on this problem, (although I have been taking the wrong approach, it seems).
I need a gateway to direct web traffic to three separate servers/domains. I have been trying to do this with both a dns server and , (seperatly), apache server to forward requests. The dns server was a no go, and <i can only get apache to redirect http and ftp.
After Googling this ALOT, I believe that what I need is a gateway server to redirect my traffic to the 3 different servers. I have been reading about using using nat and iptables for this and was wondering if anyone had any advice/suggestions on this. The other thought I had was to use something like pfSense to create the gateway, but I am still reading the documentation, and I am unsure if this approach will work.
I am trying to install 5.3 using net install disc, where it hangs for over 30 minutes trying to retrieve stage2.img. Second time. After first time and waiting over 25 minutes, I tried Debian net install on another box, and it's done with installation long ago, while this one is still hanging (and from the looks of it I doubt it will continue).
1. Network is good, the box pings, network parameters are good, Debian worked flawlessly with same parameters
2. It did pull all it needed before stage2.img
3. Plenty of RAM in the box, over 3 GB
4. The box needs no additional drivers (except newer version of kernel as vanilla still doesn't have a complete support for Intel DP43TF board), distro has them all
I want to install CentOS from netinstall CD, but it doesn't work for wireless connection, because it just looks up for eth0 connection. Well, I connected server to wired USB connection and it's named eth1. I want to use netinstall CD but using eth1 connection. Is there any way for doing it?
I've been attempting to setup PXE/HTTP network installs so we can better handle deployments for new systems. I have a test CentOS 5.4 VM running, and another test VM that I want to deploy 5.4 to. TFTP, DHCP are all working correctly. Apache 2.2.3 config "seems" OK. When I kick off the VM which I will install to, DHCP discovery and IP allocation works, the TFTP server is found, I am presented with a menu option of OS selection.
I choose #1, for my 5.4 but then it immediately tells me: "Invalid or corrupt kernel image"
/var/log/messages doesnt show anything other than the DHCP OFFER/ACK process and that TFTP client doesn't accept options /var/log/httpd/error_log doesnt show anything either Not sure where else to look for diagnosis. My Apache config directory: /var/www/html/CentOS

Forgot to add this line from my pxelinux.cfg/default file: label 1 kernel 5.4/vmlinuz append initrd=5.4/initrd.img ramdisk_size=16000 method=http:/10.37.129.3/CentOS ip=dhcp
(I think I have found my problem.. 5.4 was in the TFTPBOOT directory, but now that I'm using HTTP, I changed this to be: kernel CentOS/vmlinuz and append initrd=CentOS/initrd.img) -- question is, will just changing this work?
I'm trying to set up a server for an NPO who connects to the Internet through an internal proxy (Websense). I can't access the Internet unless through the proxy.
Since it's a server I did not install a GUI so I'm wondering how to connect the new server to said proxy server. I have the IP address, port number and username-password for the proxy server. The new server has a static IP address and is ready too go!
We are trying to set up a NIS server on a CentOS system. We need to have a NIS server which can provide NIS authentication to a couple of clients. We are practically new to all this stuff.
Just googled to find some ideas about installing ypserv and ypbind and portmapper. We did all that and also started them successfully. But now the clients are not able to join to the NIS domain . The error log states "YP_DOMAIN NOT BOUND".
I guess we have not entered the /etc/yp.conf, /etc/hosts files properly. Please let us know the detailed steps to setup a NIS server .
Also, please let us know what entries should go into the different /etc/<file_names>? What is meant by HOSTNAME in the /etc/hosts file?
Is there any other files which need to be changed? Are we missing any steps?

i am forwarding HTTP request to a internal server, it is quiet successful but access logs donot show the ip of the external m/c. Rather it shows the ip of the machine on which i have enabled port forwarding.
I installed Nagios on my Ubuntu 10.04 server using apt-get and when I accessed the web console, everything was OK. I made some changes to apache (creating some new virtual sites) and since then Nagios gives me a warning message for HTTP with the message, HTTP WARNING: HTTP/1.1 404 Not Found. The sites that I created are working perfectly. I noticed that the attemps are 4/4. Does this need to be reset or does Nagios automatically reset that once it detects the issue is resolved?
Some time yesterday, I lost the ability to ssh my remote server, or even visit any webpages it hosts.
I've explored hosts.deny, /var/log/secure and even turned iptables off to see if it would fix anything. To no avail. Here's what my ssh login attempt looks like:
What is the difference between the boot.iso and netinstall.iso images? I've looked at the wiki and done some Googling, but haven't found a good answer yet. I know it is probably going to be something obvious, but in the context of installing a Xen fully virtualised guest there doesn't seem to be much difference. After booting both ask for the location of the install tree and proceed happily.
I'm trying to setup a Centos 5.6 Squid Proxy Server with Content Filtering & Antivirus Scanning Incoming HTTP Traffic from the Internet
I then proceeded to setup an configure the Proxy Server, i was able to test and confirm that Squid and Dansguardian Content Filter is working, however i dont know if Clamav is scanning HTTP traffic before it hits the client/server. Is there a way i can check if the Antivirus scanning is working.. is there some log file or real world test i can i can do to confirm that Clamav is scanning incoming traffic or even blocking potential viruses ??
Anyone who has squid proxy server with Clamav configured and its working can share there settings/setup with me and how they tested it ??
I have burned the centos 5.4 i386 netinstall CD. It boots fine, but when I specify what mirror I want to use to install from, it gets caught in an endless loop. i have tried multiple mirrors and even tried both HTTP and FTP. When I CTRL+F3 this is what I see: "INFO: transferring [URL] to a fd" ERROR: cannot determine address family of dist1.800hosting.com" And then it just repeats over and over. I have looked at several mirros and I don't see that updates.img present at any of them.
Is there any way to setup the Centos Directory Server without an internet connection?? i tried using the command: yum install centos-ds
but this just tries to connect to the internet to to download the packages. Is there a site where i can find the package so that i can copy it to my server and install it or is there some other way to do this?
I'm trying to setup RAID 1 on a CentOS 5 server for a zimbra email server.I get a partion schema error. Can I do this?The server is a HP Proliant ML150 G3 server with two 80GB HDD.
EDIT-Forgot to mention that I did Xorg -configure before testing the config. Only errors I got were:

Linuxquestions--I posted this over on the CentOS forums, which are not as booming. Then I remembered these forums for when I had my VPS way back when and you guys were pretty helpful, of course expected me to mostly do my own reading which I dont mind its just having a hard time understanding some of the things in what I was reading. I even believe I came here with this problem before but abandoned the issue because my VPS was not powerful enough or something of the sort, but this was many years ago also on CentOS using apt. Now using yum which I like much better.
I am trying to set up a mail server on centos5 using sendmail and dovecot, and eventually spamassassin and some antivirus filter as well. I'd also like to get the proper secure auth mechanism set up at some point too. But for starters, I've been having a lot of difficulty trying to even connect to the mail server from a client computer in the local network. I installed Eudora on the client and after some tweaking in dovecot I was able to connect to the mail server, but then when I try to send an email I get a "connection refused" error, with nothing being logged on the server that I can see.
The last time I set up a mail server was Fedora Core 2, so the configuration files have changed a bit to say the least, and I can't really refer back to those to set up this new server. Does anybody know of a good step-by-step doc on getting the mail server going? I've read the man pages and other various readme's, but these really only list out the available options with no really good explanation of what needs to be done to get the mail server going. If there isn't a full write-up on how to do this, I'll put something together when I'm finished so others can use it in the future.
I have just installed CentOS 5. I have set mysql database to access from remote machines. But now the problem is it is not connecting from the local machine now.
We have two CentOS 5 servers in production (web and database). We are setting up a single staging server that will mirror the configurations of these servers as closely as possible. What is the easiest way to ensure the exact same software and configs as the production servers are setup on the new staging server. Our contracted data center provider has already informed us that they do not perform images and NO we do not have physical access to the machines. It is undetermined whether we will be virtualizing the staging server into two virtual servers yet, so for the purposes of this post lets assume we are not. I'm seeking a faster/more precise method than doing this by eye and hand.

I just recently purchased a vs from a company and i am trying to set up a web site on it with kloxo and set up the mail for it upon setting up the mail settings it says:
"It is very essential that you set the my name to a properly resolvable hostname, since otherwise, many public mailservers like hotmail will reject mails from your server"
Now this is my first time setting up a vs before i have set up linux vm's to get email access but that was about a year ago.
Computer A has two network interfaces. One is on a 255.255.255.240(eth0) subnet and has an IP of 192.168.1.6 and the other is on 255.255.255.0(eth1) subnet and has an IP of 192.168.1.64. eth1 can communicate with modem(192.168.1.254), which also acts as a gateway to the Internet. eth0 can communicate with my internal LAN, which consists of several computers including Computer B. This subnet 255.255.255.240 has it's own gateway to the internet at 192.168.1.1. However gateways will not apply to this scenario. I just added them to help paint a picture of my network.
What I am trying to do is tunnel http from a web server running on the modem(192.168.1.254) across to Computer B within my internal LAN and be able to view the http content via a browser. Sure I can just open a browser on Computer A, but I'm running Computer A headless. I can also curl it from a command line, but I'd like to learn how to tunnel across a subnet. If I get this to work, would I be able to interact with the site(i.e. make modem configuration changes)? or would it just be one way? How do I tunnel data from the eth1 subnet over to the eth0 subnet and over to Computer B on my internal LAN?
What I tried was the following: I setup a proxymini to run on Computer A and have it listening on the eth0 interface on port 8080 by using this command 'proxymini -l 192.168.1.6 -p 8080'. Then on computer B, I setup httptunnel -a 80 -p 192.168.1.254:80 -d 192.168.1.64:8080. Then I should be able to view the site through a browser on port 80 on the computer I run httptunnel? This setup isn't working.
I am currently involved in setting up an openldap server on a CentOS platform. I am having some issues with getting it set up to the point that I can remotely manage the server via phpldapadmin in a web browser. I am running into an issue when starting the slapd daemon.
I have installed the nagios by FAN 2.0 CD. In this distro all the required softwares are bundled. Now i do not know where to start. How can i monitor my other server on the network. I have google on the internet but it is not giving the clear idea. Is there any document on the net or how to which can show that how to configure nagios with centreon or originally from changing nagios files.
