I have yum installed mysql 5 on Centos5 and I can successfully run queries through shell. However, I want to now allow external access to mysql via some mysql tools (Mysql Administrator/Mysql Query Browser) which is on some windows machines on the same network.Mysql is running on port 3006.When i try connecting through mysql Admin i get the following:Could not connect to the specified instance.MySQL Error Number 2003Can't connect to MySQL server on 'ipaddress' (10065)If you want to check the network connection, please click the Ping button.Googling this I get the impression its something port related, but I have tried what I have found and still no go.When I ping the server I get:

I am using CentOS5 and installed the MySQL for server during the installation. I can set up and use MySQL databases. But I cannot make it startup everytime the server restarts. And quite a lot of methods need this folder "support-files/mysql.server", while my set up cannot find this. I am wondering if my installation of the MySQL for server is complete or not.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am looking into setting up replication in a production environment but currently this is on two test machines. I am following the documentation at [URL] but I am unable to get past "16.1.1.10 Setting the Master Configuration on the Slave". When I do the CHANGE MASTER TO I am getting a syntax error for some reason. What am I doing wrong? These servers run "CentOS release 5.5 (Final)" and "MySQL 5.0.77-log Source distribution" installed via yum. The only changes from default are that I created a single database on the master before doing the table lock and dump, then everything else has been done exactly to what the documentation states, but is still failing.
The option skip-networking is not in the config file on either server and neither one runs SELinux or any firewall.

I set up a servber on my local machine, & also PHp - Both working fine.I'm trying to load up MYSQL i have installed it, & *can* start/stop the server. however if I do anything else with it, I get this error :-
Quote:
root@gordon-desktop:~# sudo mysqladmin -u root -h localhost password MYPASSWORD
mysqladmin: connect to server at 'localhost' failed
error: 'Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using password: NO)'
Query :-
1) How do I know MYSQL is actually active ? (apart from the message it says that its statrted (or stopped).
2) Is there a way to
a) Find out the usernames that are recorded on the MYSQL server ?
b) set / RESET the 'root' username (I know MYSQL root user is different to PC root user)
c) anything else I can do on the PHP / website code to see if MYSQL is working
(as yet, no tables / databases etc have been set up - as I can't get past this error message - I get the same error when setting up a database.)
Ps I did allow my usermname (when logged in to ubuntu) to edit / create files in the /usr/www/ directory (but it is still OWNED by 'root' - that directory)
Newbie on the block with Centos 5.3 on a test server and and Ubuntu on a test workstation Note the wiki on VNC for a windows workstation but presume I could do this more easily from "Jaunty" (Ubuntu v 9.04)

We have 2 servers, 1 is the webserver and the other is the Mysql server.
When transfering a 2GB file from the webserver to the Mysql server.
The webserver's connection to the mysql DB server dies completely.
Need to restart the MYSQL process in order for it to come back online.
During this connection downtime, when using phpmyadmin on the mysql server shows no problem running queries etc.
I setup mysql v5 on centos, follow all the instruction i was able to google for to enable remote access, I am able to log in to -h localhost and -h (external IP address) from same server, I am able to telnet to 3306 using localhost and external ip address, BUT when I try to connect from deferent server i get host unreachable error H3000 (113) and telnet also is not able to connect via port 3306 I covered all the bases but stii no luck. same setup works for slackware no problem and there is no issue with client.
View 1 Replies View RelatedTrying to set up VSFTPD on the CentOS 5 box at work, which is an internal web development server. I'm leaving soon, and all knowledge of or desire to learn SSH is going with me so the other employees will need to be able to access the web root using FTP clients.
Essentially there is no need for special user accounts or privileges, it's an internal server in a tiny company. I've got the LocalRoot set to /var/www/ which I can log in to and read all files via FTP, however despite setting everything to 777 in /var/www/ and below, I still can't get any write privileges on the FTP server.
I would like to connect to a separate mysql server, yet I can't find any documentation on how to do this. How would one achieve this? I am running qmail on centos4.

We are trying to set up a NIS server on a CentOS system. We need to have a NIS server which can provide NIS authentication to a couple of clients. We are practically new to all this stuff.
Just googled to find some ideas about installing ypserv and ypbind and portmapper. We did all that and also started them successfully. But now the clients are not able to join to the NIS domain . The error log states "YP_DOMAIN NOT BOUND".
I guess we have not entered the /etc/yp.conf, /etc/hosts files properly. Please let us know the detailed steps to setup a NIS server .
Also, please let us know what entries should go into the different /etc/<file_names>? What is meant by HOSTNAME in the /etc/hosts file?
Is there any other files which need to be changed? Are we missing any steps?
Also to add-on, while executing the ypinit command we faced the following error:
At this point, we have to construct a list of the hosts which will run NIS servers. localhost.localdomain is in the list of NIS server hosts. Please cont inue to add the names for the other hosts, one per line. When you are done with the list, type a <control D>. next host to add: localhost.localdomain next host to add:
The current list of NIS servers looks like this:
