Is there any way to setup the Centos Directory Server without an internet connection?? i tried using the command: yum install centos-ds
but this just tries to connect to the internet to to download the packages. Is there a site where i can find the package so that i can copy it to my server and install it or is there some other way to do this?
I am trying to accomplish an objective, I need to get 389 Directory server installed in the process however is it possible to just have email addresses of users in the LDAP server? I have a primary domain, example 'abcefg.com' with about 3,000 users and several hosted domains like 'xyz.com' and 'mno.com'. The end goal is to speed up email processing, so instead of the Barracuda asking the email server(s) if a user exist it queries the LDAP.
Is there a way to configure 389 Directory Server to contain just the email addresses of the end users to allow the Barracuda to poll the LDAP server to verify the email address is valid. The rest of the authentication like password is handled by the email server. So in the end the LDAP server would just contain the email addresses (live) and the Barracuda would query the LDAP asking if joebob@abcefg.com exist if it does carry on. If user xxeedd@abcefg.com does not exist drop it and go on.
I have one server at home, connected through a router that gives me a static IP:192.168.1.2 - My PC192.168.1.3 - CentOS serverI enabled the port 80 into router forwarding system and I can connect properly to CentOS server, using the IP my internet provider gives me. My router automatically forwards a changed IP to my dyndns.com account so I can also access the server through a domain name (I pay to have it linked to one of my domains).My next step is to configure the mail server (dovecot) , so I can send emails from my local server(192.168.1.3).I was wondering if anyone has any tutorial links or tips to have the mail server configured through a home internet provider + home router.

I want to access my Linux box remotely on the internet via my VPN tunnel. However I am not sure what I need to do on the Linux box to make this happen. My linux box is multihomed as follows
PSTN WWW <===========> ADSL Router Firewall <----------------> [eth1 192.168.x.x] Linux Box [eth0 172.16.x.x] <-----> to LAN
The desired topology is as shown.
VPN Client <------> Home ADSL Router <======= PSTN WWW =======> ADSL Router <------> eth1 Linux Box
1. The VPN is setup and bound to eth1 and eth0 and works well internally
2. IPSec, GRE and PPTP rules have been declared on the router which port map to eth1
However I am still unable to setup a VPN connection to Linux Box I suspect something hasn't been done or I have setup my NATing or IPTables correctly on the linux box.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe are trying to set up a NIS server on a CentOS system. We need to have a NIS server which can provide NIS authentication to a couple of clients. We are practically new to all this stuff.
Just googled to find some ideas about installing ypserv and ypbind and portmapper. We did all that and also started them successfully. But now the clients are not able to join to the NIS domain . The error log states "YP_DOMAIN NOT BOUND".
I guess we have not entered the /etc/yp.conf, /etc/hosts files properly. Please let us know the detailed steps to setup a NIS server .
Also, please let us know what entries should go into the different /etc/<file_names>? What is meant by HOSTNAME in the /etc/hosts file?
Is there any other files which need to be changed? Are we missing any steps?

View 6 Replies View RelatedI am fairly new on CentOS and am in the process of setting up a small home office network that shares Internet access through the Linux (CentOS) box.I have two network interface cards The Linux box is also the DHCP server. My challenge is to get the client machines to access the Internet! I have a PPP connection to the ISP. Essentially I followed these Instructions CENTOS REDHAT Internet Connection Sharing. Pretty straight forward but I am still not able to get clients to access the Internet. I defined the DNS server through DHCP (196.44.x.y). I assumed it has to do with default gateway and it is set as follows: on the Linx box the gateway is my ppp0 link. DHCP uses eth1 (LAN card) fixed IP as the gateway. All clients are reflecting this information. The firewall (iptables) is reflecting the FORWARDING and POSTROUTING rules as advised.
Is there a step I mioght have missed to get this working? I tried to Google but its not getting me far.
I installed CentOS 5.6 (kernel: 2.6.18-238.12.1.el5) with X Window on my HP Compaq 6710b. I also downloaded the firmware iwl3945 for my Intel Pro Wireless 3945 and manually installed it, reloaded the iwl3945 module and enabled NetworkManager. I could then get the wireless network connection worked on my graphical environment. I installed additional software manually by using the terminal window (Applications --> Accessories --> Terminal) and everything worked perfectly.
However, when I switched to text-based environment by issuing the commend "sudo init 3" (changing the user level) and logging in as root, I could not get any internet connection. I tried to use lynx and I got the error message: "Unable to connect to remote host". I am a complete newbie in Linux and I tried to google and search for solution within centos.org but I could not find.
I'm using virtual network (NAT network) for my domU.When I change dom0's firewall setup, the domU will fail to connect to Internet anymore.So far, the only way to bring the network back is reboot dom0 !I try to restart service network and libvirtd on dom0 ... it doesn't work.How can I bring the domU network back without reboot dom0 ?

I have the head node with two NIC devices eth0 and eth1. eth0 is the one that is connected to the WAN while eth1 provides the internal LAN connection. I am trying to configure internet connection sharing with the slave nodes on the network so that I can update/install software as needed via ssh sessions using yum. I have set up the master node with the requisite changes to iptables to enable IPv4 forwarding. From my slave nodes I can ping ip address from the terminal, but my domain name resolution is not working. i.e. if I ping [URL] it can not resolve, but if I ping 74.125.224.50 (one of google's IP's) I can communicate with the machine without a problem. View 1 Replies View Relatedon my server I have atMail and a intranet site being hosted using mySQL for the database locally, and obviously backing it up would be a good thing. I got the backup package from the list if you use the add/remove software called dump-0.4.etc.. can't seem to find much on how to use it, set it up, nothing. Granted I could be looking for the wrong thing which I'm sure is the case. As of now it's looking like a USB drive is going to be my only option, that will change in the future as this "project" goes further (we are a windows shop trying out Linux, and the next step is going to be adding another server that's a file server at that point we'll probably go to NAS for the backup and then transer that to a USB for offsite/secondary backup).

Issue now is that a web developer has created a form that he is trying to email from the site, I did not have anything configured for mail and he does not care to write a script that would not require the mail service to be on the web server.
Have configured/reconfigured main.cf multiple times but no success.
Postfix appears to send the outbound email to the queue but never goes out. Have setup mail service for the domain "land***.com" in ISPConfig and tested with a single user created for the domain from the server.
What did I miss in the configuration to get "connection refused"?

I am trying to setup an OpenVPN server using CentOS 5. I ahve installed everything, configs are good, server starts fine. I have generated my certificates using the easy-rsa 2.0 included with OpenVPN. I have downloaded all the certificates to my machine and setup my client to connect. I am having that typical problem everyone seems to have where my client says certificate verify failed. However I can use openssl on the server to verify and it is ok. What am I doing wrong here?
