CentOS 5 :: Nagios Running The Command Manually

Dec 15, 2010

I found it once on the web by means of googling it.How do you run a command, from nrpe.cfg, to make sure that it works?For instance, command[check_total_procs]=/usr/local/nagios/libexec/check_procs -w 150 -c 200

Software :: Manually Executing Entry In Nagios Checkcommands.cfg

Mar 10, 2011

First I don't know Nagios. I've been left with a fairly large(350 servers, 750 services) Nagios system installed. I've scraped and googled till I'm blue in the face. The Nagios folks have been less than helpful in that they tell me I need to figure it out myself. I've tried for four days to *figure it out myself*.

I have an entry in the checkcommands.cfg file:

# 'check_dns_external' command definition
define command{
command_name check_dns_external
command_line $USER1$/check_dns -H $HOSTNAME$ -t 60 -s 4.2.2.1 -a $HOSTADDRESS$
}

First, I don't understand what this command means and does. Next, I don't understand how to manually execute this command. I do know that the command in automatic mode has stopped working as Nagios tries to execute and I get an error message on the Service Status Types: Nagios alert page. The alert doesn't come with any regularity as to time of day or availability of resources. Apparently, this Nagios command is executing randomly. It is waking me up several times a night and several times a day as we page out alerts via email.

I'm lost. Aside from bouncing the entire Nagios stack, which is not possible right away as this is a Production system, is there any way to manually execute the offending line described above? Again, I've asked the Nagios folks and they have declined to answer.

I have a PGP script that for whatever reason if I let linux's cron run it automatically, it sends out the final email with attachment with a blank file. If I come in and run in manually everything works fine and the file is populated in the file. So the only real difference is that i'm running it manually through cron, rather than letting cron run it at a set time.Below is a sumary of my script.

Yes I have tried exporting my paths and variables aab still will not run my script. 'm sure I am doing something wrong.I have a shell script which runs a jar file. This is not working correctly. After reading around I have read this is commonly due to incorrect paths due to cron running via it's own shell instance and therefore does not have the same preferences setup as my profile does.here is what my script looks like today after several modifications:

Code:

Software :: Monitor Mysql 5.0.77 With Nagios 3.2.1 Under CentOS 5.4?

Apr 7, 2010

Trying to monitor mysql 5.0.77 with nagios 3.2.1 under CentOS 5.4. Everything with nagios has been running without a hitch for me, however, when I added the following to /etc/nagios/objects/localhost.cfg to try to monitor mysql, I get an error that reads "Running configuration check... CONFIG ERROR! Restart aborted. Check your Nagios configuration."

define service{
use local-service
host_name localhost
service_description MYSQL
check_command check_mysql
notifications_enabled 1
}

This is pretty much what I added to monitor other things on the server such as ftp and smtp, just switched out check_smtp with check_mysql, etc.

CentOS 5 :: Why The Selinux Module For Nagios Doesn't Work

Dec 8, 2009

Is there a reason why the selinux module for nagios just doesn't work? I'm running CentOS release 5.4 (Final) and did "yum install nagios" and now have nagios-3.2.0-1.el5.rf installed. I'm having to create policy after policy after policy, and still haven't reached the end of the rainbow.

I suppose after I run out of selinux violations, I could figure out how to combine all of these modules and post the result, but it seems really, really weird to think that I'm the only person who has ever installed nagios from the repo with SELinux enabled.

Server :: Nagios / NRPE Oddity On Similar CentOS Machines

May 24, 2010

We have Nagios running on a server, and are installing NRPE as a daemon on web servers we need to monitor. I'm two servers in and have hit a small snag. The two servers we're currently trying to monitor are, to the best of our knowledge, very similar (Centos 5.4, Apache, MySQL, PHP etc etc), and the installations of NRPE on them should be the same. One is being monitored just fine, however we can't check on the other one without including the -n switch (to disable SSL) in the check_nrpe call. If we don't, however, the error we get is, "CHECK_NRPE: Socket timeout after 10 seconds.". In /var/log/messages on the machine that fails we see:

May 24 17:23:49 ourserver xinetd[23583]: START: nrpe pid=27932 from=123.123.123.123
May 24 17:23:59 ourserver nrpe[27932]: Could not read request from client, bailing out...
May 24 17:23:59 ourserver xinetd[23583]: EXIT: nrpe status=0 pid=27932 duration=10(sec)
The only kind of related thing I can think of that's different between the two machines is that one (the one that works) has actually had an SSL certificate installed on it, for the site it hosts.

General :: Can't Find ./prog.sh Start - Unable To Kill Manually Using Command

Nov 3, 2010

I'm trying to figure out how to operate a rather large Java program, 'prog'. If I go to its /bin/ dir and configure its setenv.sh and prog.sh to use local directories and my current user account. Then I try to run it via "./prog.sh start". Here are all the relevant bits of prog.sh:

[code]...

When I actually do ./prog.sh start, it starts. But I can't find it at all on the process list. Nor can I kill it manually, using the same command the shell script uses. But I can tell it's running, because if I do ./prog.sh stop, it stops (and some temporary files elsewhere clean themselves out).

[code]...

the process is running yet not in any way listed by the system. I can't find it in ps or /proc/, nor can I kill it. But the shell script can still stop it properly. So my question is, how can something like this happen? Is the process supremely hidden, actually unlisted, or am I just missing it in some fashion? I'm trying to figure out what makes this program tick.
