CentOS 5 Server :: Setup DKIM With Sendmail?

Jun 23, 2009

I am trying to make my webserver a well respected email sender and it appears to me that using DKIM is something I need to do.

I have no experience with this and would like to know if anyone thinks there are issues that I should be aware of before going down this path.

Also, I have not been able to find any good, STEP BY STEP, documentation on how to set up DKIM with Sendmail.

I am also not sure if you need a certain network configuration for DKIM to work...this is what I am working with:

My webserver (centos 5.3, sendmail 8.13.8) sends outgoing mail and has a valid reverse DNS that matches a forward DNS. The MX records for my webserver's domain point to a third party email provider who handles the incoming mail for that domain. I added an spf record that signifies it that my webserver is authorized to send mail for mydomain.

Server :: How To DKIM Sign Emails By Amavisd-new

Oct 21, 2010

I work for a university institute and administrate its servers "incidently". Currently I am putting some work into our mail server configuration (sendmail 8.13.1 with amavisd-new-2.6.4). Recently I got amavis to verify DKIM signed mails. Now my plan was to sign outgoing Emails ourselves. This is what I have done (I replaced some names for privacy reasons):

I created a private key:

Code:
/usr/local/amavisd/amavisd genrsa /var/dkim/SEL1_DKIMkey.pem
Changed permissions for the user running amavis:
Code:
chown -R vscan.vscan /var/dkim/ && chmod -R 700 /var/dkim
Editet my /etc/amavisd.conf:

[Code]....

Send Testmails to sa-test@sendmail.net and check-auth@verifier.port25.com . They automatically create answer mails considering signature information.

Send emails to my external account at some other provider.

The problem is that amavis is not signing the mails. Both automatic test emails reported, that the mail had not been signed. The mail to my external account also did not contain any DKIM information.

"My" system:

Code:
# uname -r & cat /etc/issue
2.6.9-89.0.11.ELsmp
Red Hat Enterprise Linux AS release 4 (Nahant Update 8)

Server :: Exim Smarthost With DKIM - Configuration Files

May 13, 2010

My employer has started the process of certification with Return Path, and I've been roped in to setting up DKIM, SPF, SenderID etc. so that we are compliant with the certification requirements. Our current e-mail server is qmail, and I'm really not too keen on messing about with the configuration files there. As a safer alternative, I've decided to set up a smarthost relay that only does the DKIM signing. I tried and gave up on Postfix - struggled with understanding the configuration files - and eventually found Exim.

Now, I've got the relaying working perfectly so far. I am NOT running an open relay, my smarthost is configured to only accept SMTP connections from the existing mailserver, and not publicly accessible anyway. The problem I'm having is figuring out exactly where in exim's configuration file I am supposed to configure the DKIM signing options. I've read the official exim documentation and I'm fairly sure about the syntax, I just can't figure out where the options go.

So I didn't notice when I setup my CentOS 5.5 server that I left / as RAID 0 on md1. All the rest are RAID 1. Is there a way I can modify the array to RAID 1 without a risk of data loss? I'm glad I caught this before I setup any other services. I've only setup smb so far...

CentOS 5 :: Boot Setup From Partition That Is Formatted During Setup

May 5, 2009

Here is a thought experiment:

1. Copy vmlinuz and initrd.img from isolinux subdir into /boot
2. Adjust grub.conf to boot to that kernel
3. Reboot to setup
4. Format /boot (actually '/' ) during "fresh install"
5. Proceed with the installation-over-network

I see two possible outcomes:

1. The setup fails to reformat the drive, because it is "in use" by boot kernel

2. The partition is not "in use" and the installation succeeds

Why? Old cluster with broken CD-drives, lacking USB, and no separate /boot partition.

Server :: Unable To Setup A NIS Server Setup On CentOS System

Jan 19, 2010

We are trying to set up a NIS server on a CentOS system. We need to have a NIS server which can provide NIS authentication to a couple of clients. We are practically new to all this stuff.

Just googled to find some ideas about installing ypserv and ypbind and portmapper. We did all that and also started them successfully. But now the clients are not able to join to the NIS domain . The error log states "YP_DOMAIN NOT BOUND".

I guess we have not entered the /etc/yp.conf, /etc/hosts files properly. Please let us know the detailed steps to setup a NIS server .

Also, please let us know what entries should go into the different /etc/<file_names>? What is meant by HOSTNAME in the /etc/hosts file?

Is there any other files which need to be changed? Are we missing any steps?

Also to add-on, while executing the ypinit command we faced the following error:

At this point, we have to construct a list of the hosts which will run NIS servers. localhost.localdomain is in the list of NIS server hosts. Please cont inue to add the names for the other hosts, one per line. When you are done with the list, type a <control D>. next host to add: localhost.localdomain next host to add:

The current list of NIS servers looks like this:

Is this correct? [y/n: y] y

Error running Makefile.

CentOS 5 Networking :: How To Setup Nfs / Nis On 5.6

Jul 26, 2011

my network: centos 5.6 machine, 2 disks in raid 1 client: centos 5.6 machine, 1 disk, no raid setup.the raid machine has 2 users beloning to one group (and root, with root group)
the client machine has 1 user, same groupNAME as on the raid machine. (again root, with root as group too).

where can i find the low-intelligence-level instructions for setting up nfs (the raid machine should become server) and nis (i got it is needed too).i tried some instructions from the Net (one of redhat enterprise e.g.), but after that i could mount the exported directory on the client machine, open the folder, read and copy from that folder to the client itself, but NOT write to the folder (folder with the mounted fs from the server).

CentOS 5 Server :: How To Setup A Backup

Jun 27, 2011

on my server I have atMail and a intranet site being hosted using mySQL for the database locally, and obviously backing it up would be a good thing. I got the backup package from the list if you use the add/remove software called dump-0.4.etc.. can't seem to find much on how to use it, set it up, nothing. Granted I could be looking for the wrong thing which I'm sure is the case. As of now it's looking like a USB drive is going to be my only option, that will change in the future as this "project" goes further (we are a windows shop trying out Linux, and the next step is going to be adding another server that's a file server at that point we'll probably go to NAS for the backup and then transer that to a USB for offsite/secondary backup).

Server :: Setup A CentOS 5.5 With IPSConfig?

Nov 2, 2010

Have setup a CentOS 5.5 with IPSConfig that has been running for maybe 6 months, it was only intended to be a web server for multiple domains. Issue now is that a web developer has created a form that he is trying to email from the site, I did not have anything configured for mail and he does not care to write a script that would not require the mail service to be on the web server.

Have configured/reconfigured main.cf multiple times but no success.

Postfix appears to send the outbound email to the queue but never goes out. Have setup mail service for the domain "land***.com" in ISPConfig and tested with a single user created for the domain from the server.

What did I miss in the configuration to get "connection refused"?

Nov 2 11:27:19 WC01 postfix/cleanup[6711]: E4DFA1190011: message-id=<20101102162712.E4DFA1190011@WC01.nors***.com>
Nov 2 11:27:19 WC01 postfix/qmgr[6665]: E4DFA1190011: from=<admin@land***.com>, size=377, nrcpt=1 (queue active)

[Code].....

should I remove the domain from mail services and would postfix work on its own on a server with ISPConfig?

Server :: Setup An OpenVPN Using CentOS 5?

Dec 7, 2010

I am trying to setup an OpenVPN server using CentOS 5. I ahve installed everything, configs are good, server starts fine. I have generated my certificates using the easy-rsa 2.0 included with OpenVPN. I have downloaded all the certificates to my machine and setup my client to connect. I am having that typical problem everyone seems to have where my client says certificate verify failed. However I can use openssl on the server to verify and it is ok. What am I doing wrong here?

Code:
[root@GSFOVPNxxx01 openvpn]# openssl verify -CAfile ca.crt gg-jbloomer.crt
gg-jbloomer.crt: OK
[root@GSFOVPNxxx01 openvpn]#
client output
Code:
2010-12-07 08:44:33 MANAGEMENT: CMD 'hold release'

[Code]...

I just dont get it, I have racked my brain and google until my eyes bleed and can not figure this one out.I am sure it is something simple that I am missing.

CentOS 5 :: Can't Match NView To XP Setup?

Nov 12, 2009

we are having with nView on Linux. We are running a dual boot with CentOS-4 (2.6.9-67.ELsmp) and XP.

When we boot into XP and configure the nView manager so we can clone our monitors onto a projector it works perfectly and we get the full 1920x1200 from the Eizo S3421W replicated onto the full projection display. When we attempt the same thing in Linux it doesn't work - I cannot find the same 'Clone' settings. Instead if we try and match the same resolution settings it goes out of scan range.

The best I can get is 1920x1200 on the display and 1600x1200 on the projector. As you know different aspect ratio so on the display you get a strip of picels running down the right that isn't on the projection.

We are running QuadroFX1700s. how we setup the same as in Windows?

CentOS 5 :: Booting With Over 2TB Raid Setup?

Dec 9, 2009

I'm setting up a backup server using Centos 5.3 and an Adaptec 5805 raid card and discovered that I can't use a raid setup that is over 2TB in size as the boot drive. What I eventually did was set up 2 raids on the same set of 4 drives so that I have a 200Gb 'drive' for booting and a 2.6TB 'Drive' for data. I want to keep the OS in the raid setting so I have some protection instead of having a dedicated stand alone drive for the OS. This will be for a company wide backup server and I want to minimize the possibility of drive failure for the OS as well as the Data.

I was able to install and reboot the system and everything seemed to be working but after some working on it a bit I did a reboot and wound up with a non-booting system. I can boot to the rescue mode with the install dvd and mount the original system and I even tried to reinstall the grub setup per instructions I found on the net but still I get a system that hangs up after it asks if I want to boot from the CD. If I take out the CDROM option from the boot lineup in the bios I stop at the same place minus the boot cd prompt.

I'm guessing it is something to do with one of the raid drives being over 2TB but I'm booting from a 200gb sized raid so I'm really at a loss for what to do next??

Is what I've described the correct way to handle booting up with a large raid or is there another way to reconfigure the drives as one big 2.8TB raid and use something other than grub to boot to it?
