I have a few occasions of not being able to download the bittorrent files.
Do the mirrors have a way to block the bittorent files from being downloaded at certain time ?

CENTOS 5.2 - updated Jan 7 2009
I am trying to install Sun JDK, to test the file i am trying to extract the RPM using following command:
$ . ./jdk-6u10-linux-i586-rpm.bin -x
I always get this response :- Checksumming...the download file appears to be corrupted. What I've tried so far :-
- Centos 4.5
- Downloading 6u10 & "bin" only versions of sdk :-
jdk-6u10-linux-i586.bin
jdk-6u10-linux-i586-rpm.bin
jdk-6u11-linux-i586.bin
jdk-6u11-linux-i586-rpm.bin
- Using Sun DL Manager.I am aware of specific instructions for JDK on Centos but it seems I can't get past the first step.

When I run 'parted' and then type 'print' to see the partitions that are available, I see two entries: /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2. /dev/sda1 is of ext3 type whereas for /dev/sda2 nothing is specified for file system type. The LVM flags are set for /dev/sda2.
When I tried to resize /dev/sda2, it gives me the error "File system type not recognized". let me know how to find out the file system type of the partition.

Assume I have plugged in an external USB hard disc.
How can I find out (from terminal cmdline) the file system (ext2, ext3, reiserfs,...) of this hard disc?
From Ubuntu I know the two commands:
sudo blkid -c /dev/null
or
sudo fdisk -l
but these are not known in CentOS.
What are the corresponding cmds in CentOS?

I was upgrading openssl 0.7 to 0.9.81 in my redhat 9 server. I've followed the guideline from here: [url]
Now everything is messed up There's no libcrypto.so in /usr/local/ssl/lib directory. Only libcrypto.a. Neither in /usr/lib or /lib directory. I can't even run scp or wget to download rpm of openssl. Getting libcrypto.so error. I've use locate command to find libcrypto.so. There's none. I've run ./config, make, make test and make install command again in the openssl 0.9.81 source directory. But no luck. No libcrypto.so. This is a production server and the httpd went down.

On F11 I very often used gftp. Now, after upgrading from F11 to F12 gftp gives the message that it needs libcrypto.so.8. When I try to install it by using yum, there's no such package available. Also, I find that I'm not the only one having this problem. Anyone an idea on how to solve this?

I'm currently running VB 3.0.10 on Fedora 12 64 bit.
When I attempt to upgrade my current install to 3.1 I get the following:
I am somewhat puzzled as this is a upgrade from a stable installed version. I have confirmed I have libcrypto.so.8 . . . from what I can tell its part of the openssl package but I've got the most current so I don't know how to obtain the libcrypto.so.10 file to correct this issue.

I've desperately been trying to find a download manager for premium rapidshare download and Downloader For X seems to be the most popular solution around. I've tried DTA and Flashgot, they do the trick but not exactly a Flashget (Windows) equivalent. In Downloader For X, I can't get to download anything because of the additional slashes and numbers and stuff. For example, the URL [URL] becomes [URL]I checked the forums and it seems I'm not alone. There is even a working solution [URL]but the date is quite old (I'm using Lucid) and I couldn't find the main/addr.cc file .

A friend recently introduced me to linux and I've experimented with a few different distros and now have 2 working puppies; 1 system i slapped together from misc. parts lying around and the other is my netbook which boots to puppy via USB. I have had to play around with formatting using gparted.
I very recently acquired a server unit with a pentium II 200Mhz and I would like to LEARN linux. Thru careful research I have figured out that Slack is the best OS for those who want to learn the in's and out's. I guess my question would be which slackware distro would be best for this somewhat older system? ...And where can I find a mirror to download the iso?

Asked this on Jul 21, and didn't get any satisfactory answers. Thought i'd ask again before i switch to Ubuntu or go back to Fedora: Has anyone gone to software.opensuse.org: Download openSUSE 11.3 and actually chosen "Installation Medium" as "4.7G DVD", "Direct Link", "32 bit PC", hit the "Download DVD" button and gotten the file "openSUSE-11.3-DVD-i586.iso" which is not 49.0MB?
I mean, the steps above are not rocket science, and not much chance of making mistakes, so i'm not sure how i can get a download popup which specifies that the file is 49.0MB file, if it's not actually that size?

It sounds weird but on Linux I can't find a browser that allows to set a download speed limit. I found an extension for Firefox but it works only on Windows. I know the existence of download managers like d4x, wget, jdownloader, etc... but some downloads can only be done by browser. I know trickle too but if I want to change the speed limit I have to 'restart' the command (interrupting the current download). Then I didn't find an extension for Chromium.
