Trying to get a handle on xen. I have installed Centos 5.3 and I have created one xen guest using default 192 address. I can access this guest no problem from the xen host/server but how do I setup a bridged (I assume) xen guest so it can be connected from any network within my domain, The xm host is network is 10.32.161.0
View 1 RepliesI have become convinced that rsync for CentOS 5 is broken. I'm trying to set up automatic backups between 2 servers in 2 different countries using rsync under CentOS 5.I can get manual backups to work between the 2 servers by doing two things I shouldn't need to do, but automatic backups fail and I see no solution.Here are the problems I am encountering: According to the instructions I've read everywhere, I am to set up two configuration files:
/etc/rsyncd.conf
/etc/rsyncd.secrets
When I run rsync from root, it apparently just totally ignores these two files. No custom greeting, no log, no password used.
Even when I specify --password-file=/etc/rsyncd.secrets in the command line, it still ignores it. I am prompted and I must enter the password manually. Let me back up a moment. After first installing rsync, when I ran any command to access the root server, I get this error:
ssh: connect to host 111.222.33.44 port 22: Connection refused
rsync: connection unexpectedly closed (0 bytes received so far) [sender]
rsync error: unexplained error (code 255) at io.c(463) [sender=2.6.8]
I read everywhere that rsync uses port 873, not port 22 which is used for SSH. Why is rsync on CentOS trying to use port 22?I have SSH switched from port 22 to another port (let's call it 5432 here) and block port 22.So, I have added this to the command line:
--rsh='ssh -p5432'
Then I get a connection ...
... but it prompts me for my password. It doesn't matter that I have my username and password, same one, in /etc/rsyncd.secrets on both servers. It still asks.And it rejects my password!The only way I can get it to connect is by creating an SSH user on the remote server for this.Even then, rsync STILL prompts me for a password, even though:
1. the username and password are specified in the /etc/rsyncd.secrets files on both servers
2. I've added the command line parameter --password-file=/etc/rsyncd.secrets Therefore, it is totally impossible to use an any cron job or other automatic synchronization, under CentOS 5.

Scouring the web for answers and so far I have come up with this: Port 22 is open. I have both computers IP addr's via right clicking on the network icon-> Connection Information. ssh is installed and running. Both computers are listening on port22. But when I try Places->Connect to server, I get "no route to host". I'm not a networking guru and I'm at a complete loss on this.

I'm trying to ssh from my laptop to my desktop (both fedora 14) over a local network. I can ping my desktop and get responses, but if I ssh to it, I receive

I'm setting up apache on centOS 5.5 and administering it from another host on my LAN(this web server has no Xorg). I can ping from the config host to the web server but not the other way. My network is quite a way from being set up so i'm just configuring the web server at the moment, the simplest way i can. It's just trying to get two LAN hosts both with 192.168.1.0/24 I.Ps to talk to each other using a router to connect them.

I have a P2000 array from HP. What I did try to do was to expand vdisk and corresponding volume. After expanding finished i saw it expanded on management tool for array but it did not expand on host. I tried to rescan devices using pvcsan, rescan-scsi-bus.sh and so on. I tried to restart the host and it did not help neither. It's two node cluster with clustered lvm volume group which is causing the problems.

I have setup CentOS 5.2 with Nagios to monitor my network and have that configuration almost done. I have also setup Sendmail to forward all mail (really only Nagios notifications) out to my Exchange server using define('SMART_HOST', 'exchange.domain') in the sendmail configuration file and it seems to be working correctly.is there a way to configure Sendmail to forward all mail out through my Exchange server as it is now but send mail out to the internet itself if the exchange server is unavailable, somewhat like a failover configuration.

I want to be able to resolve bare host names (example: angus) using bind. I get mixed results.

My problem is that I can't setup a diskless environment with CentOS 5.4 (server) and CentOS 3.9 (hosts). On the host, I've recompiled the CentOS 3.9 kernel, with these mods:
- added kernel level IP autoconfiguration;
- added NFS file system support;
- added Root file system on NFS;
- added e1000 driver (the host has a gigabit network card);

i have linux server application based on centos 5 that run httpd daemon from /usr/local/pf/conf/httpd.conf which is generated from the /usr/local/pf/conf/templates/httpd.conf.apache22 file
the problem is every time i run my linux server application i am not able to access phpmyadmin unless i stop my linux server application which is stop it httpd daemon then start "service httpd start"

However, when remote users wanna login to the server, it takes more than 1 minute to get in. Users do can login from remote. It just took too long. (It prompted for the username and password very fast.) Since the server is behind a router, I did configure the port forwarding for TCP 20-21. The centos version is 5.3. The vsftpd is v2.0.5.
