CentOS 5 Server :: Cman Fails To Start After Yum Upgrade
Sep 16, 2009
I just did a yum upgrade (5.3 to 5.4) on one node of my three node cluster (RHCS), which did:
Rebooted to the new kernel, but cman failed to start. Rebooted back to the previous kernel, but no change, so it doesn't appear to be the kernel.... Some errors are:
On the upgraded node, the following processes are running:
Whereas on the non-upgraded node, the following processes are running:
The setup: 2 identical boxes running Fedora Core 15 2.6.38.8 kernel, 64bit that Im trying to setup in a cluster using luci.
So far: Managed to create the cluster.conf file, defined the nodes with hosts and such.
The problem: When I try to have the 2 nodes (nod1 and nod2) join the cluster via luci's web interface, I get "Starting cman: Job failed. See system logs and 'systemctl status' for details." When I check code...
Now. I know that cman service is installed. I even tried removing and reinstalling the whole thing, dependencies and all, but it just won't start and I've run out of ideas.
I am having a problem with bringing up a two node cluster. It picks up a cluster configuration file from another cluster on the network where of course it does not find the local node I've disabled openais, change the configuration to use a different ring but it is still happening. I get the following error message code...
Is there a way to boost the logging for cman and openais so I can get more clues as to why it it is happening? I've only seen postings telling how to do it for resource manager .
I did a distribution upgrade using "apt-get dist-upgrade". After rebooting, I receive a message saying "Failed to start the X Server". When I okay the prompt for more info, I see the following: GDM: Xserer not found: /usr/bin/X :0 -audit 0 -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt7 Error: Command could not be executed! install the X server or correct GDM configuration and restart GDM.gdm[4678]: WARNING: gdm_server_spawn: Xserver not found: /usr/binX :0 -auth /var/lib/gdm/:0.Xauth -nolisten tcp vt7
I'm having a very strange problem with red hat cluster. After testing it in the lab, I tried to install a new cluster and received the following error: cman not started: Cannot start, cluster name is too long or other CCS error /usr/sbin/cman_tool: aisexec daemon didn't start I've checked the internet for that error, but nothing. I decided to to take the example from cluster.conf man, which looks like that :
[Code]...
And still I get the same error. I can find my servers both from DNS (FQDN and short name) and they also appear in /etc/hosts.
I have a Toshiba A205 S5804 laptop that had Vista Home Premium installed. Tried to install Centos 5 (2.6.18-8-el5) and when I went through the install process, X Server failed to start so I had to go thorough the command line install. Once the install completed, it only booted to console.
The default resolution for this laptop is 1280X800 but I dont know if that is why or not. if anyone has a clue about my issue, please let me know.. I really dont want to install windows.
I performed a system update yesterday to CentOS version 5.4. Now I cannot get vmware to start. I get the error "VMware Server is installed, but it has not been (correctly) configured for the running kernel. To (re-)configure it, invoke the following command: /usr/bin/vmware-config.pl." I tried running vmware-config but that did not resolve the issue. I saw the bug related to 2.0.x (after the update), but that does not seem to apply to 1.0.9.
I've just upgraded to 9.10, and mysql fails to start. When I do an /etc/init.d/mysql start, I just get * Starting MySQL database server mysqld ...fail!with no additional errors or information to say what went wrong. I saw this thread http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1322070 but the fix mentioned does not apply, as I don't have the #skip bsd line in my config file.
So I made the upgrade to slackware64-current and all of a sudden after my next reboot, startx failed, and x refused to start the output was the following:

Please consult the The X.Org Foundation support. Please also check the log file at "/var/log/Xorg.0.log" for additional information. So then after some googling I got the suggestion to downgrade udev-151 to udev-141, but that yeilded no results. So I did some more googling and a bunch of people who had the same problem said that downgrading module-init-tools worked, so I downgraded from module-init-tools 3.11 something to 3.6 and now, not only does my X no longer work, but no modules are being loaded I believe, for example I saw in my startup that fuse was not being loaded, ndiswrapper which I had installed was not loaded.
I recently installed the 32bit version of 10.10 on my Dell Latitude E6510. Everything went smoothly.. in fact I was quite impressed as I have my laptop in a docking station connected to dual 24" displays. The installer recognized them and they worked perfectly right outta the box: yea for Ubuntu !
After the install, I installed some apps then upgraded the installation to the latest hotness - lots and lots of things were upgraded. I restarted the machine to "complete the upgrade process" and it boots but right when it gets to starting the Windows environment, both display just loose their signal...
It boots fine to the command line if I boot in safe mode. I had installed the nVidia drivers but I did that before the update and I had no problems until I did the system update. Any ideas? Should I start by disabling the 3rd party drivers? If so, how would I do that?
I have installed ddclient for use with dyndns.org.
I can manually run it from the prompt with /etc/rc.d/init.d/ddclient start and can verify that it works by checking that my IP has succesfully been changed at dyndns.
When I reboot though, during the startup, I get the following: Starting ddclient: /bin/bash: ddclient: command not found [FAILED]
I am very new to Linux, so I am not sure what or where I should be looking to solve the problem. It seems to me that it must be looking in the wrong spot for ddclient, but I don't know what to check or change to point it at the right place.
I have a CentOS 5 64bit cloud server at 1and1. The current version of PHP on it is 5.2.17. I would like to install 5.3.6, which is available from the Atomic repository. I'm using yum for all this but when I try to install the 5.6.3 package, I get the following.
Total download size: 10 M Is this ok [y/N]: y Downloading Packages: Running rpm_check_debug ERROR with rpm_check_debug vs depsolve: Package php-ldap needs php-common = 5.2.17-1.el5.art, this is not available. I have a machine running Centos and hosting 3 KVM VM also running Centos. After applying upgrade C 5.6 to host and to VMs one of my machines does not start with nwfilter option enabled in it's domain definition. Only following error is visible on console:
marcinw$ sudo virsh start av error: Failed to start domain av error: internal error Could not get access to ACL tech driver 'ebiptables'
Before upgrade everything worked as expected. Packages iptables ( enabled ) and ebtables ( not enabled ) are installed on host. SELinux is disabled.
I'm configuring a new Centos 5.5 server in replacement of an old W2K server. The topology of our network is simple : one file/dhcp/dns relay server and workstations (PC's and some MAC's) plus network printers and scanners. All the workstations have dynamic IP addresses (easier because a lot of 'dynamic' changes : new persons with their own laptop, ...) and the server and printers/scanners have fixed IP addresses.I edited the dhcpd.conf (see here underneath), I have the file dhcpd.leases but it doesn't start !
I've build a home-made small cluster built up of a master and 1 disk-less slave node.Lately it happens that the node 1 fails to start, reporting the following message:
The following is a subset of error messages I'm getting when trying to do "apt-get upgrade" or "apt-get dist-upgrade" on a machine running ubuntu server 9.10 amd64:
Code: Preparing to replace linux-image-2.6.31-22-server 2.6.31-22.60 (using .../linux-image-2.6.31-22-server_2.6.31-22.65_amd64.deb) ...
i am currently trying to install vsFTP onto my new linux server and btw i just started using linux today this is my first time using linux so i got the ftp installed good it got downloaded and everything then i went to open a port for my server for vsFTP i used this comand to open it "-A RH-Firewall-1-INPUT -m state --state NEW -m tcp -p tcp --dport 21 -j ACCEPT" then i closed it by pressing ESC then :wq! and it brought me back to my comand line again so now when i try to start the ip table thing with the comand "service iptables start" then when i execute that comand putty respondes with this "Applying iptables firewall rules: iptables-restore: line 1 failed [FAILED]"
After upgrading Centos 5.4 cluster nodes to 5.5 all virtual services failed to start. All virtual services are marked as 'failed'. The reason: new /usr/share/cluster/vm.sh requires 'which', but this is not reflected in rgmanager-2.0.52-6.el5.centos.
Solution: run 'yum -y install which' on all nodes, and reboot cluster. Hope that will save somebody hours of downtime.
Im having a major problem with mysql-server failing to install. The installation stoppes on "Running Transactions" (have tried waiting for 10 minutes). When I use Ctrl+C an error appears:error: %pre(mysql-server-5.0.77-4.el5_5.4.x86_64) scriptlet failed, signal 2 error: install: %pre scriptlet failed (2), skipping mysql-server-5.0.77-4.el5_5.4
