CentOS 5 Server :: Aliased Folder Not Showing Up: 404
Mar 19, 2010
Apache httpd.conf (with server identity info removed)
CentOs 5.4 system info
I have a problem I've been banging my head against for hours.
I can't get an aliased folder to turn up: I just get a 404.
I've chowned the folder to apache:apache and most of it is chmod to 755. I tell apache of the changes, and have even tried restarting a few times.
I'm expecting it to turn up like this yyy.com/laura_shop/
(within which is a php script to do a shopping cart)
The apache directives look similar to what I have on my dev computer (which is Windows, mind you).
The directory and alias are defined within my main virtual server which you can see here:
virtual host conf directives
(see at top of the message if you would like to see the whole httpd.conf file)
I realise this is more of an apache/linux problem but perhaps familiarity with CentOS may get me the right answer quicker.

Consider this stanza for a directory on my Apache server:
<Directory "/var/www/html/mine/wedding">
Options FollowSymLinks
Order allow,deny
Allow from all
AuthType Basic
AuthUserFile "/etc/httpd/htpasswd_file"
Require user username
</Directory>

I have the Folder View applet on the Desktop viewing the Desktop Folder "~/Desktop"
Some shortcuts are outdated because of new installation of opensuse 11.2...
How can I add icons there in?
I can add icons to the Desktop and Taskbar but no in this Folder View on the Desktop (BTW: Is this Panel called "Folder View applet"?)
If I try to move a icon from Desktop to this Panel it is not moved in this panel it is placed behind this Panel...
And how can I get more than one of this panels for example one displays the Desktop folder other the home dir ...

I am running FTP server using vsftpd 2.0.5-12 on Centos 5.3 64bit with default settings, annonymous access enabled. Each night new files are created and moved into a FTP subdirectory (/var/ftp/spectra) by a script. The files are owned by a local user/group, not root, and the same holds for the /var/ftp/spectra subdirectory. The new files are not visible via FTP. Only visible are files that were created the same day when I made the directory /var/ftp/spectra. Also files that are created "in place", e.g. by vi, are visible until I change their owner/group. This is the situation when vsftpd is runned as a system service (/etc/init.d/vsftpd start).
When I start the vsftpd directly using the command /usr/sbin/vsftpd (both without or with the configuration file specified), all files are visible and normally accessible via FTP.

I'm having a problem accessing files via nfs where an iso has been mounted through the loop device on the nfs server. Basically what I am attempting to do is access the 6 CentOS 5.2 ISO's via NFS from one of my client machines. The client is able to mount the share and see its sub directories leading up to the mount point of the ISO, but the contents of the mounted ISO image are simply not visible (on the client, they are visible on the server).
Server config (CentOS 5):
/etc/fstab:
/home/user/iso/CentOS-5.2-x86_64-bin-1of7.iso /exportiso/centos/x64/5.2/disc1 iso9660 defaults,loop 0 0
[code].....
NFS is working correctly for other mounts between these two boxes, however.

'm a bit familiar with Centos as I have set up few website on this environment but I have never actually installed, and especially, configure ftp server. Now I need to do this. Simply I need to be able to create an access account for a user and then restrict access to only one folder within the website (idea is to allow this user to upload images via ftp). I did google for ftp servers and read about vsftpd but I couldn't find any tutorial on how exactly make it work with folders and specific users.

I'm using ssh2 a PHP extension to create a new folder on my server, however if I try and set the permissions of that
folder above the default of 0755 it creates the folder with that default setting.
It seems like there is some setting preventing me creating a folder with higher permissions e.g 0777.

Is there a simple way to move the Sendmail queue folder? Presently it's at the default location on /var/spool/mqueue/ but when / recently ran out of space (my fault storing backups there), it was unable to receive any more mail. There is plenty of space at another partition. My /var/opt/scalix location lives on another set of discs with lots of room. I created a folder called /var/opt/scalix/sendmail/mailqueue/ but uncertain how to move the existing queue to it.

it is probably very basic but I'm new to linux and the shell "dev" is defined to take me to the newest version (some kind of an alias?), in this case to the directory v0.9 in fact if I go one directory up to /design/ libs/at77000 and I do "ll" I can see: dev -> v0.9/.I am using ocean scripts and for documentation it is important for me to print/show which version is been used in the simulation.how to show the current version directory "v0.9" instead of "dev", i.e. I need to print this:Version Used: /design/libs/at77000/ v0.9/ the version is changing from time to time and that's why the path is defined as "/design/libs/at77000/dev/"

I am having a time at trying to get a simple FTP setup to my Var/www/html folder for my canned Joomla website. I can log in anon with no write permissions, but it will not log in using any users I have setup on the server. I've googled a bunch, but nothing to correct my 530 authentication failure when I try to log in as one of my user accounts for the server.

I have three machines on three networks192.x.x.x10.x.x.x172.x.x.xThe routers are set to forward communication between 192. network and 10. network, and between the 10. network and the 172. network. However, there's not routing between 192. and 172.I want to fix that by using a machine on the 10. network to forward communication between the other two networks. The machine has one etherent connection eth0 whose address is 10.1.1.11I set up an aliased ip address eth0:0 to be 10.1.1.12 using Quote:ifconfig eth0:0 10.1.1.12Then I tried to set forwarding rules the 10. machine such that 10.1.1.12 address will provide access to the machine 172.1.1.55 as followsQuote:# iptables -t nat -A PREROUTING -d 10.1.1.12 -j DNAT --to-destination 172.1.1.55The default policies for all chains is ACCEPT.I then try to access 10.1.1.12 from 192.1.1.20 expecting it to actually access 172.1.1.55 ; it does not work

I am having following problem:
RHEL 5.5 won't accept specifying an aliased interface (e.g. eth1:0) when I add a new host route to the routing table of a machine with multiple Ethernet interfaces. I have read that this works with Ubuntu, but RHEL gives problems. It only understands the interface card (e.g. either eth0 or eth1, but does not understand the aliased virtual interfaces within say eth0 or eth1).
As such, when I try to reach a host in the same subnet with the aliased interface and after adding that route to the routing table, Redhat won't reach that host.

Traffic going out of the box to internet uses eth0eth0 116.55.58.1eth0:0 116.55.58.2I have a service listening on port 80 on 116.55.58.2Lets say my client connect to 116.55.58.2:80 through 116.55.58.1 , how do I force (mangle you name it) with iptables that the outgoing source address will be always 116.55.58.2?

Today I uninstalled Zimbra desktop from my Ubuntu 10.04. After doing it, I am facing several problems due to changes in system configuration.
My Home Folder contents are shown on Desktop and if I delete them from Desktop, they are also deleted from the Home Folder. I don't understand why this is happening.
Also, from the side pane in Explorer, the option of Home Folder is not present any more. When ever I go to Home Folder, on the side pane is shows that I am on desktop and the location bar shows that I am in Home Folder.

I have a Windows maching with an attached NAS Drobo device. I have a linux maching running Ubuntu 11.04 and have edited the fstab file and been able to map the windows folders for the Drobo and they all mount up fine. On the Linux machine itself can access these folders and run music/video files from them. But when I'm at another computer and SSH into my Ubunutu maching, I can see the mounted folders using the ls command but I can't see the contents of those folders.

My ~/Desktop is generally kept empty.
Yesterday on start resume from hibernate, it looked as if my encrypted home directory was unmounted; or at least instead of my $HOME contents I got a bunch of files related to this.
I rebooted the system, and since then my desktop has been rendering icons for every file in my home directory, but not updating the icons until the next reboot, if I change anything in $HOME while it is running.
I opened the gconf-editor and checked: the box for using the home dir as the desktop is not checked. I even tried toggling it and the option that controls drawing the desktop on/off in every possible combination. Nadda. The only thing that works is turning off drawing the desktop.

I'm experimenting with a K8055 board, connected through USB to our Asterisk server, running on CentOS. If I connect the device I can see it being connected by watching /var/log/messages. Also the device is mentionned in /proc/bus/usb/devices. But when I do lsusb the device isn't showing up and it should be showing up! If it is not listed with lsusb, I can't connect to it through the k8055 executable...

I am using evolution for my email client, and it shows me hidden files and folders in the folder tree. Basically, my email folder is in a unix folder on a system, and that system logs me into my folder when I try using evolution. The downside is that files like .bashrc, .bash_profile and other weird stuff end up in the foldertree view
See how the tree would show bashrc and .lynxrc? The folder "documents" shouldn't be showing either.Yeah, that's really annoying. It showing the contents of the $HOME folder that I login to.In thunderbird those things wouldn't show.It must be evolution specific.Anyone have an idea how to fix this issue?
