CentOS 5 Server :: Mounting DVD / CDROM On WinXP Platform?

Dec 30, 2009

I have installed XP on linux xen, when I mount a dvd or cdrom, it would mount on linux not windows! What should I do to mount it on windows? (I installed xp in virtual machine via an image file, so, whenever windows is poped on, the windows xp cd-rom is mounted with that image file), is there any way to mount it from hard?

Networking :: Running Foxpro On Centos ( Server ) Via Winxp Client?

Jul 30, 2010

My office is on migrating to UNIX system. I am configuring Centos as our server including some program will be running on it. But one of the problem is we use foxpro for operating some program on server directly. I can run that program on Centos using DOSBox. My question is how can i run that program on winxp client that connected to network through samba to that program on server? so my plan is just give the shortcut and link it to server. I have tried to open it but not work.

General :: Mounting A CDROM In Ubuntu?

Apr 14, 2011

I'm using a software that needs to read data from a cdrom. The instructions say to mount the cdrom (mount /mnt/cdrom). I understand that I need to mount the cdrom to /mnt/cdrom. I created a folder "cdrom" under "mnt". Then I tried to mount the cdrom by typing:

sudo mount /media/ /mnt/cdrom/ This didn't work. Under "media" I have another folder with the actual cd content so I tried to mount it too, but again with no success. I keep getting an error that "media is not a block device". What I am doing wrong?

CentOS 5 Server :: Cups & Samba -- Printing From WINXP Client As Postscript Fails?

Mar 14, 2009

Apologies if this was asked before -- I have googled the last bytes out of my Firefox but fail to find anything helpful. Here's my problem:I have a foomatic hpijs cups-driver for a HP Inkjet (Non-PS printer) installed. Printing from UNIX-hosts works. I have cups configured not to allow raw-printing (/etc/cups/mime.types: #application/octet-stream, /etc/cups/mime.convs: #application/octet-stream).I have now installed samba-printing, the cups PS-drivers plus the Windows PS-drivers are populated to /etc/samba/drivers/W32X86/ and get pushed to the WIN-Client.Problem is that when I print from a WINXP client, the printer outputs heaps of Postscript-text instead of my page.I have tried to debug this a bit but fail to find anything really useful. My observations so far:

- The samba-pushed HP_Photosmart_3300.ppd (in both /etc/samba/drivers/... and in the resulting dir on the WINXP client) reads:
*cupsFilter: "application/vnd.cups-postscript 0 foomatic-rip"

Ubuntu :: CDRom Not Mounting After Clicked 'Do Nothing' Option?

Aug 14, 2010

I have been burning a few CDs. When I inserted the blank CD I was queried what to set the default action as, and I selected 'Do Nothing'. The CDRom drive now does not attempt to read or mount anything inserted into it. It shows up in Nautilus under 'Computer', but does not appear to be mounted properly otherwise.

I am using Ubuntu 10.04 desktop.

Networking :: Mounting VMWare Guest (WinXP) Outside Host

Jul 28, 2009

I am running VMware workstation on a Linux host and WinXP guest using NAT. I have shared a folder on WinXP, and I am able to mount it on the linux host with:
mount -t smbfs -o username=Administrator,password=mypasswd //192.168.100.129/Shared /mnt/tmp
This works fine. However, I want to mount the same folder from a different linux machine (not the host).

I added port forwarding in /etc/vmware/vmnet8/nat/nat.conf:
[incomingtcp]
#445 = 192.168.100.129:445

If I run:
mount -t smbfs -o username=Administrator,password=mypasswd //external_ip_number/Shared /mnt/tmp

I am getting:
mount error 112 = Host is down
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g.man mount.cifs)

It doesn't work even if I try the above command from the linux host itself. It only works if I use the internal IP number. I suspect vmware is not forwarding port 445 but I am not sure how to verify it. I am not running smbd on the linux host, in case that make any difference. I didn't think that was required because the server is really on the WinXP and the linux is just a client.

Ubuntu Installation :: WinXP Attempt Install Messes Up Partitions - Auto-mounting

Dec 18, 2010

Background information: I need to install WinXP on my computer to use Spectraview II software for monitor profiling. Tried it under Wine, didn't work...thought about virtualization, but Graeme Gill (creator of Argyll) said that probably wouldn't work:

Quote: The problem is that emulators often don't implement hardware details properly or at all. There's no standard way on Linux to read/write the DDC, so there is no surprise that wine doesn't emulate MSWin's API's for this. It's doubtful that any of the VM's do either. USB can be an issue too, and some instruments may not work in an emulated environment. I already had Ubuntu 10.10 installed, so thought I'd try installing WinXP after, then recovering the MBR. Lots of headache.

CentOS 5 Hardware :: Mounting RAID Array On Samba Server?

Jun 23, 2009

I need to mount my raid array on CentOS 5.2 samba server.

Here are my hardware specs:
Motherboard: Tyan S2510 LE dual PIII
CPU's: Intel PIII 850ghz socket 370
Memory: 4 gig Crucial 133 ECC SDRAM
OS: 2 x'x IBM Travelstar 6.4 gig 2.5 hard drives, (low heat/noise)
Storage: 4 x's Seagate 500 gig IDE 7200 rpm
RAID controller: 3Ware 7500-12 controller, (RAID 5) (66 mhz PCI bus)
NIC: 3COM 3C996B-T gigabit NIC, (66 mhz PCI bus)

I have the 2 IBM's set as RAID 1, (mirror) and the 4 Seagates as RAID 5, (1.5 TB) I have installed the OS with minor problems, (motherboard doesn't like the 2.6.18-128.1.14.el5 kernel, removed it from my grub.conf).

My problem is mounting the RAID array. I have done the following:
formatted with fdisk;
fdisk /dev/sdb
Then formatted with the following command;
mkfs.ext3 -m 0 /dev/sdb

The hard drive was formatted with the ext3 files system, but I have mounted it as an ext2 file system as I don't want 'journaling' to occur. I then edited my /ect/fstab like this: .....

Then: mount -a
When I go into my "home" directory and type ls, I get the following:
[root@hydra home]# ls -l
total 24
drwx------ 2 zog zog 4096 Jun 23 15:50 zog
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 6 Jun 23 15:46 home -> /home/
drwxrwxrwx 2 root root 16384 Jun 23 15:34 lost+found
drwxr-xr-x 2 root root 4096 Jun 23 17:18 tmp
Why my home directory is showing under home?

CentOS 5 :: Installing Dynamips On X64 Platform?

Sep 1, 2009

I'm trying to get the dynamips/dynagen packages installed on my freshly built centos5 machine. The hardware is AMD X64 and I am not able to find an RPM for this after careful searching. (Dag has packages for the i386 platform, but not x64). I have downloaded the source code, but am leery of installing that way given potential problems with stability and maintenance. So I have a couple of questions:

--does anyone know where I can find an rpm for dynamips on the x64 platform?

--has anyone installed this app from source under Centos5?

--the configure, make, make install routine does not seem to be working for me in any case. I'm pretty good at handling rpms, but I don't have much experience with compiling from source. I would love a Centos specific cheat sheet on that if you have one.

Here is some information about my machine:

CentOS 5 :: File Copy From Cdrom?

May 18, 2009

I just installed CentOS 5 and am trying to learn how to copy ISO files onto my new install, to practice network installation. The Cdrom doesn't auto mount, which isn't so bad I can mount it using :

[root@rhatserver ~]# mount /dev/cdrom /media mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only

My question is... I want to copy from the Cdrom... to a new folder, then practice a network install across my network. I can't seem to figure out how to do this... I know that its an ISO file. When I check the name of the file on my Debian system it lists: CentOS_5.3_Final

I created a directory ( just for practice ) calle inst on /

how do I copy that ISO file from the CDrom to the inst directory... I have tried a number of commands as root: All similar to [root@rhatserver ~]# cp -ar /dev/cdrom /CentOS_5.3_Final /inst cp: cannot stat `/CentOS_5.3_Final': No such file or directory
