CentOS 5 :: Cdrom Always Mounted Under /media?

Mar 1, 2009

I went through some conf files under /etc. But cannot find out why cdrom always mounted under /media? Also there is one line in /etc/auto.misc: cd -fstype=iso9660,ro,nosuid,nodev :/dev/cdrom

Does that mean the cdrom should be mounted under /misc/cd?

Ubuntu Installation :: Duplicate Drives In "Places" - Error "mount: /dev/sdd1 Already Mounted Or /media/Data Busy Mount: According To Mtab, /dev/sdd1 Is Already Mounted On /media/Data"

Feb 13, 2010

Just moved to Ubuntu from XP. Whole process has gone very smoothly, but left with a small problem (i.e. it isn't actually affecting usability) that I don't seem to be able to fix and can't find on forums/internet. I also have a problem with the Floppy drive, but I've seen that problem elsewhere in the forums.

It's a dual boot system with both NTFS and Ext4 drives. All are visible and fully accessible. I decided to convert one of the NTFS drive to Ext4. That appeared to be successful and was successfully remounted as an Ext4 drive. The drive label is "Data". I did have a bit of a problem getting it remounted so that I could see/use it under my log-in as opposed to just under root. It's at this point I think that I did something to create the problem.

I now have two entries for "Data" in drop down menu for Places. The true one is shown as a standard hard drive icon, but the false one is shown as a different icon - possibly an external drive icon (note that the floppy drive is also showing as the same icon and I can't access that, but I've seen that's a problem elsewhere in the forums).

I can write and read to the true "Data" hard drive. If I click on the other false "Data" icon, I get the message "mount: /dev/sdd1 already mounted or /media/Data busy mount: according to mtab, /dev/sdd1 is already mounted on /media/Data". If unmount the true drive and try to mount the false drive, the system mounts the true drive instead. If I log into nautilus as root, neither the false data drive or the floppy appear in the left hand panel.

Ubuntu Installation :: SDA1 Mounted On /CDROM While Booting From CD

May 5, 2010

I'm trying to install Lucid on a computer with windows already present. When I ran trough the install procedure no drives show up at the partitioning stage. So I check some things out and it turns out that /dev/sda1 is mounted to /cdrom and I can't umount it because it says the disk is in use. I'm booting with the live-cd downloaded from ubuntu. Why is this happening? Previously with older live-cd's I always have to mount the HD manually if I wanted to access it for any reason?

Ubuntu :: Cannot Seek (default Media Player) If Mounted From ISO

Jul 1, 2011

Using Ubuntu 11.04, Totem (the default media player) is not able to seek (read: to forward or go back in time) whenever the file is read from a mounted ISO archive.

Whenever I extract individual media files from such an archive, the seek bar at the bottom works as it should. Thus, it can be ascertained that it is not the media files that are the source of the problem, here.

why that is doing so? Sounds like a bug, or what?

Ubuntu :: Home Network - Media Drives Are Automatically Mounted To Allow Access If The Admin User Is Not Logged In?

Jul 9, 2010

This is the set up I have: PC downstairs by a tv, with 3TB of storage containing my media, connected to the tv too. HTPC upstairs by another tv and connected to it. A few laptops and other desktops around the house which are windows based

I want the downstairs pc to act as a file server and to run my torrent client, it is running Ubuntu desktop version and has xbmc installed too for use with the tv. The upstairs htpc has xbmc live on and will access the media from the file server. What I am looking to do is to be able to log into my ubuntu machine remotely from a laptop running windows so I can manage the files and add torrents for download etc, but for this to be a complete remote session, rather than taking control over what is already being shown on the downstairs pc, like VNC does in windows.

I have two user accounts set up on the main ubuntu machine, the admin account and a media user account which is set to go straight to xbmc after log in. Also how can I make sure that the media drives are automatically mounted to allow access if the admin user is not logged in?

CentOS 5 :: File Copy From Cdrom?

May 18, 2009

I just installed CentOS 5 and am trying to learn how to copy ISO files onto my new install, to practice network installation. The Cdrom doesn't auto mount, which isn't so bad I can mount it using :

[root@rhatserver ~]# mount /dev/cdrom /media mount: block device /dev/cdrom is write-protected, mounting read-only

My question is... I want to copy from the Cdrom... to a new folder, then practice a network install across my network. I can't seem to figure out how to do this... I know that its an ISO file. When I check the name of the file on my Debian system it lists: CentOS_5.3_Final

I created a directory ( just for practice ) calle inst on /

how do I copy that ISO file from the CDrom to the inst directory... I have tried a number of commands as root: All similar to [root@rhatserver ~]# cp -ar /dev/cdrom /CentOS_5.3_Final /inst cp: cannot stat `/CentOS_5.3_Final': No such file or directory

I have IDE Sony DVD RW AW-G170.

BIOS Setting:

When booting from the DVD, it gives me the boot prompt:

Upon pressing enter, the log messages of the boot detect the media drive as: hdc: Sony DVD RW AW-G170 IDE ATAPI CD.

The below steps occur:
1) Select the keyboard type: selected us

selected Local CDROM

Then the above error "CentOS CD Not found in any of the media drives. Please insert CentOS CD and press OK."

The booting steps does not ask the for media check step.

The below methods have been tried to solve the problem:

- Burnt the image in another 2 DVDs but the same error "CentOS CD Not found in any of the media drives. Please insert CentOS CD and press OK."

- Upon burning the DVD image , selected the DVD read speed: 8x. Upon burning the DVD selected 18x for burning. and then tried to boot with that DVD

- At the boot prompt entered : linux hdc=cdrom replaced hdc=hdb but the error remains.

CentOS 5 :: DRBD Mounted Partition Not Updating?

Nov 4, 2009

I've been working at creating a highly available set of host servers for a linux diskless boot cluster. Each host machine is fitted with redundant power supplies and two 1TB drives in a Raid-1 configuration. When I first started this project they each had twin 160GB drives. In my original setup I had both nodes acting as primary systems so that I could mount /dev/drbd0 to my /data directory and see changes immediately. It had worked in the past where I could make a file in /data on the first machine and it would show up in the /data directory on the second machine. One day this had stopped working where if I made a file on the first machine it would display on the second one until I unmounted /data and remounted it to the /dev/drbd0 disk.

This is when I bought the new disks and decided to start from scratch. The weird thing is that if I make a file on the primary and remount on the secondary to see it and then delete it from the secondary and THEN delete it on the primary, the primary throws no error however it goes into read-only mode because it knows that file was already gone.Below is my configuration file, sda8 is an 820GB partition which is used for all of the data I want to replicate, currently populated with ~10GB of data. Sda7 is my metadisk partition which is 500MB large clearly more than needed by drbd. Also you will notice "incon-degr-cmd "halt -f";" is commented out. This is because when I go to actually use it drbd throws an error when reloading the configuration and I'm not sure why that is either

resource r0 {
protocol C;
#incon-degr-cmd "halt -f";

However I cannot write to the directory despite it being mounted RW and having read-write access on the host (a Netapp Filer). If I check permissions on the mounted directory, I see it is owned by 'avahi-autoipd':

I have disabled the avahi-daemon in chkconfig, although it wasn't running to begin with. Any idea why this directory would be owned by avahi-autoipd and whether or not that has anything to do with why I can't write to the mounted directory?

CentOS 5 Server :: NFS Mount Of Loop Mounted ISO's Showing No Files

Jul 16, 2009

I'm having a problem accessing files via nfs where an iso has been mounted through the loop device on the nfs server. Basically what I am attempting to do is access the 6 CentOS 5.2 ISO's via NFS from one of my client machines. The client is able to mount the share and see its sub directories leading up to the mount point of the ISO, but the contents of the mounted ISO image are simply not visible (on the client, they are visible on the server).

Server config (CentOS 5):

/etc/fstab:
/home/user/iso/CentOS-5.2-x86_64-bin-1of7.iso /exportiso/centos/x64/5.2/disc1 iso9660 defaults,loop 0 0

[code].....

NFS is working correctly for other mounts between these two boxes, however.
