I can't seem to load anything in the CGI bin, it gives me a 403 forbidden for the cgi bin folder, and also when i try to load the hello.pl it wont load it just shows a blank document. permissions are set to 755 and i reuploaded the files via ftp too

I configure named and stumble upon the following problem: named is serious about user rights, every config file named uses should be named:named. I set rights to named:named as follows, but they get changed to root:named when I restart named as root. The same thing happens with SELinux context. This results in access denied type errors.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI've recently installed CentOS 5, because I needed a good OS to run VMware Server. Just a heads up, I'm not very familiar with RH/CentOS distros, I usually use Arch Linux. My VMware install went fine, config is standard settings. Now I'm trying to access the VMware Infrastructure Web Access using port 8222 (http) and 8333 (https), but it's a no go. I'm connecting from another machine on the LAN, as the CentOS box is headless. I restarted the vmware services, and they seem to be launching fine. I don't know much about VMware though. I verified with netstat and ports 8222 and 8333 are listening.

I installed mysql mysql-server php-mysql perl-DBD-mysql libdbi-dbd-mysql via "yum install -y" on a server running CentOS 5.3 X86_64 The install completes successful with no errors, but once I start mysqld via "chkconfig --level 35 mysqld on" ; "service mysqld start" There are no errors in /var/log/mysqld.log netstat shows mysqld listening on 3306 and localhost is in /etc/hosts

I've recently installed phpmyadmin but cant access from [URL] I checked the files and found only 3 folders in /var/lib/phpmyadmin -config / save / upload - all of them empty. Now I need to do this. Simply I need to be able to create an access account for a user and then restrict access to only one folder within the website (idea is to allow this user to upload images via ftp). I did google for ftp servers and read about vsftpd but I couldn't find any tutorial on how exactly make it work with folders and specific users.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI am using a CentOS 5.4 server for Snort (it's actually using the easyIDS config). I'm trying to modify some things, and I've noticed that I can't seem to download any files. WGET, FTP, etc... all just time out. It's not a network firewall issue, as I've been monitoring the logs and see no blocked traffic, and other machines on the subnet can get outside with no problems. I checked the Cent firewall using the setup command, and it says it is disabled as well. I'm very new to linux, so I'm wondering how I can troubleshoot this? The wget and ftp errors just say the connection timed out, but I'm not sure why.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI've only recently encountered this problem with vsftpd when I was creating new ftp accounts. I keep on getting:
550 Access Denied.
on every action I try to do on ftp, no matter what. I've been trying to solve this myself however my attempts have been futile.
The permissions, and ownership have been checked and rechecked tens of times now, so thats not the issue. I've reinstalled the OS of my server twice now, and the problem is still persisting. Heres my config file, this isnt for anon by the way.

When I log in using PUTTY, as soon as I enter my username and hit enter I get Access denied, then a prompt for a password and all works well, it just tells me access denied even though it didnt deny me. its weird.
We have Apache installed on CentOS 5.3 in our laboratory. Indeed the server is running fine for almost two years since it is actually the first CentOS 5 that was released just regularly updated. Now, most of our applications are custom made PHP applications and until now we somehow managed to avoid using PHP to fetch files that are on the internet itself. But now we are desperate because we need to allow PHP to fetch files through Apache but it seems as if Apache is not allowed to make a connection to the outer world. Additionally we use a proxy server to connect to the outer world so right at the beginning http_proxy is used to set that environmental variable. And for the root user it all works fine after that but it seems as if the apache user is not allowed to access the internet. Just to make a remark our web server can be accessed from the outer world so its a one way street for now.

I've been having trouble getting it to map drives on the domain where I work, so I wanted to set up a test system with a similar setup so I can play around with settings without mucking up our network. Only problem is I can't get it configured to even work with XP, which does work on our domain.
When I type \server in the Run box I get the explorer window showing all of the test shares I've set up. But when I try to access them, it says the network path could not be found. Here is my smb.conf file:

I am getting an access denied when trying to log in via SSH to my home server with putty(windows) over the internet. I can use any user including root and get the same result. If I use my Android phone with the ssh terminal command I am able to successfully log in and use the server.

However, I can only login as admin. If I try to access using root, the SSH session shuts down. If I enter another passowrd it gives the correct response and says incorrect password. If I login as admin and then try SU Root - It displays a list of commmand options for SSH and does not allow me to login.

I can type in the servers IP address from my browser/putty/winSCP and access the server within the intranet. The problem is that i would also like to access the server using its hostname, e.g. http://centos or whatever Currently i cannot do it. I've searched the forums, edited the /etc/sysconfig/network and /etc/hosts to no avail no matter what i do i cannot access it. i've disabled some services so im not sure if this is the fault.

The Virtualbox (not for the VM) network preferences have DHCP Server disabled and IPV address and the network mask I believe are valid for my home network. My VM is up and running and it has gotten an IP address from my home router and everything seems fine. From any machine in my house I can ssh into my centos installation. I went ahead and started up the httpd service and the website is up. IOW, I can see it from my centos box - when I navigate to http://localhost However, I cannot see it from any other machine on the net. The IP address of the centos bos is 192.168.0.141. From the centos I can do a ttp://192.168.0.141 and see the Apache 2 test Page. I can see that from anywhere else. Although I can ssh to that machine.

Trying to set up VSFTPD on the CentOS 5 box at work, which is an internal web development server. I'm leaving soon, and all knowledge of or desire to learn SSH is going with me so the other employees will need to be able to access the web root using FTP clients.
Essentially there is no need for special user accounts or privileges, it's an internal server in a tiny company. I've got the LocalRoot set to /var/www/ which I can log in to and read all files via FTP, however despite setting everything to 777 in /var/www/ and below, I still can't get any write privileges on the FTP server.
I can't seem to get the X server to allow access from clients on other hosts. (I know, not exactly a network problem, but. I made the change in /usr/share/gdm/defaults.conf to be : DisallowTCP=false
and this worked on another CentOS system, but it hasn't fixed it on this one. What other things could prevent other clients from connecting to the X server? From the local host, I get :
Warning: Tried to connect to session manager, Authentication Rejected, reason : None of the authentication protocols specified are supported and host-based authentication failed although the client DOES actually create the window and work! So, maybe this message is a clue.
From the remote host, I get : Error: Can't open display: 10.10.1.20:0.0 Which is not terribly informative. Is there a log somewhere which details why a connect request was denied? The files in /var/log/gdm are not very informative.
