CentOS 5 Networking :: MAC-address Is Changed?
Jun 16, 2011
With virtualbox I do a test session to train myself with centos before I make big mistakes on my production server.I did take a harddiskfile vdi to another computer with virtual box. Now I have the problem that de MAC-address is changed.I can not get the mac adres anymore, becaus those computer is sold. How can i change the trust of the MAC-address in centos? Or must i change de MAC-address? If I may change the MAC-address, i must do that inside centos, end not inside virtualbox, if you understand me?

I'm not sure this has anything to do with Samba because I can see and access the ubuntu share files that I share with windows still. I can't see the windows network share files though. If I switch back to my private IP the windows network comes back. How I can get the network to show on my public ip.

I'm trying to create an script so that the mac address get changed at the boot for every interface in the computer (eth0, wlan0, etc...).
I've tried with
Code:
for IFACE in $(ifconfig -a -s | egrep -v "^(lo|Iface)" | cut -f 1 -d" ")
do
macchanger -r $IFACE
done
and with
[Code]....
It would also be nice if there was a little program which would ask you at the boot if you want to change the mac address.

I am having a problem getting a wireless network connection on my DELL laptop running CentOS 5. I have no problem getting a wireless connection when the laptop is booted in Windows XP. I also don't have a problem when booted under CentOS 5 and there is no authentication setup on the wireless router. I only have a problem when I setup authentication. The router wireless log shows the PC connectinng, authenticating, and succeeding authentication.I am using the Broadcom Hybrid-wl wireless driver.

I am a developer, not a network admin - sorry if this ia dumb question. I need to test an application on CentOS 55 64 bit. The instalation went fine and initially I let DHCP work its magic. The router IP address ia 192.168.0.1 and all other VM's I have are granted dynamic ip address on this range (i.e. 192.168.0.x). However, the CentOS vm got an IP address that looks like it belongs on a different subnet :192.168.1.1
The VM (vmware desktop) network setting for this VM uses "Bridged: Connected directly to the physical network". I can ping the host (Windows 7 64 bit) and the host can ping it (it been the VM) - but no other computer on the network can see it. To make things easier, I changed the network configuration to use a static IP address. Here are my configuration files:
/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0
DEVICE=eth0
BOOTPROTO=static
HWADDR=00:0C:29:83:4B:A4
ONBOOT=yes
TYPE=Ethernet

I was particulary suprised to have nothing in my logs regarding an IP address conflict in Linux compared to the windows and its popup !Did I miss something in the logs ? Or is there someting to configure to have it ?Otherwise can I do something to have the date in the dmesg log file ?Here my story about this problem :My linux machine was monitored by Nagios so i've seen some Up/down/up/down phenomene when I came to work this morning. I tried to figured out what's wrong browsing the logs (messages & dmesg & mail/root)... but nothing usefull so far...Then I hearded that a collegue booted a old Windows machine the day before. I checked this machine and there was the classic windows popup regarding a IP address conflict! So that was the problem, the Windows machine have the same IP than de Linux box.I was particulary suprised to have nothing in my logs regarding an IP address conflict in Linux compared to the windows and its popup !Did I miss something in the logs ? Or is there someting to configure to have it ?Otherwise can I do something to have the date in the dmesg log file ?Linux : CentOS 5.4 64bitsWindows : Windows server 2003 32 bits

I have a requirement of switch between wireless network with a single wireless device. First it should be switched to adhoc mode and then after sometime switch to infrastructure mode to establish internet connection. Everything works fine except the gateway settings.
I have used:
system("route add default gw x.x.x.x dev wlan0") to set the gateway, where x.x.x.x is gatewayip address.
I have used this whenever switching happens in addition to ifconfig command to set the ip address and netmask. But this is not setting the gateway ip address. How to set gateway IP address?
System details below
OS :CentoS 5.3
Kernel :2.6.18

The install went fine but the only issues is getting the server on the network.
I can't ping any thing other that the ip address assigned to the server.
I did it through the gui , the command line and using ifconfig and editing the ifconfi-eth0 file and nothing works.
any ideas on how to get this to work.
i see nothing wrong in the messages.log file either.

I am attempting to get this network card running under CentOS 5.2 but have had no luck. Some sites say to use the sk98lin driver, others the skge, which I can't find at all. I have tried multiple versions of the driver in rpm but none seem to work. The card shows under the network manager but will not get an IP address from the DHCP server.
Here are the outputs for this card.

New to CentOS5.5 I'm experiencing some trouble in order to continue my configuration. I've just installed my vmware tools and configured my network card with system-config-network
Edit eth0 (eth0) - vmxnet3 -> with a static IP I rebooted my server and since then I lost my eth0. I still see it in system-config-network, but I can't active it anymore.:
/etc/init.d/network start Bringing up interface eth0: Device eth0 has different MAC address than expected, ignoring. [FAILED]

Everything worked fine until very recently, and without apparently ANY change to the settings on the server, a secondary IP that was assigned to my server won't work anymore..Any IP attached to the same server works fine.. So in my case, the problematic IP is 213.8.155.67. The other IP (213.8.155.42) works without any problem.How would I go about troubleshooting this?
ifconfig:

As configured:
/etc/hosts (yes my hostname is "dummyName" that I will need to change later)

Version 10.04 LTS. Installed desktop version and network worked but I needed a static IP address and the install configures for a DHCP configured address. I tried changing to static address using the System->Preferences->Network Connections application but was unable to get the system to come up with the network up.
So I manually modified the /etc/network/interfaces and the /etc/resolv.conf files. I restart the system but when I do an ifconfig, I don't see a configured IP address on eth0 (only the loopback address). If I run /sbin/ifup eth0 everything then works fine and ifconfig shows the correct address bound to eth0.
My files are as follows:

I'm running Ubuntu 10.10 and I'm having problems trying to assign it a static IP address. No matter what I put in the Preferences->Networking area (identifying the interface as Manual)... it still will query DHCP for an address if I run the dhclient command. I'm using to using ubuntu server where I just set the IP in the interfaces config file.

I am running my own Postfix mail server. Some time ago I noticed that most email was rejected because of the server's dynamic IP address. So I got a fixed IP address. However then I noticed that some mails got rejected due to failing the reverse DNS check. So my ISP told me to get a range of IP addresses and they could then create a PTR record for one of those addresses. That is now running but it turns out that the IP address used for the PTR record is a ... dynamic IP address. So Spamhaus PBL rejects my emails again.
