I am completely new to centos 5 but I was unable to connect to internet and my ethnernet controller is RTL8101E ,can somebody tell where can i get and how to install
After upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04, I'm not able to make any connection to the internet with either my netbook through WiFi or my computer on wired LAN. I can, however, ping my Solaris machines and Macbook. How do I fix this?
I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. I will post my configuration files below with my current configuration.
I'm currently using Ubuntu and have installed debian using dual boot. In debian neither my wifi card appers nor LAN interface appears. I think during installation I'm not able to install the drivers. Can anyone help me to download the driver packages for debian (than I can download in ubuntu and then use pen drive to install in debian).onsider that I'm completely new to debian and have been using ubuntu for 2 months now and is familiar with packaging.
I connect to the Internet via wired ethernet. The modem/gateway is 2Wire mod. 2701HG-B. Service provider is AT&T DSL. Ethernet controller is Realtek Semiconductor RTL8111/81688 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet. When I go to System -> Administration -> Network Device Control it shows eth0 as inactive.
I've been using 3 different distros for the last 2 weeks. Ubuntu, Fedora and Mint. And i've been using Windows since I can remember. I won't talk here about the benefits I got with Linux, because everyone knows that. But there's something about Linux that keeps annoying me, no offence to Linux users, and I want to ask you about that.
It just seems impossible to install additional software without an Internet connection. I tried: Keryx, Opyum, Suhi, huh?, Synaptics generate download script, yum -downloadonly. I didn't yet: Debian 10DVD I'm not programmer, and my knowledge about computers and operative systems is very small. But installing software on Windows the worst case of dependencies i saw was I had to download just one more .exe file (.NET framework or klite codec pack installers, for example).
question: Is there any Linux distro or any way where packages are managed in a more compact fashion? Suppose I want to use Wine, how I download some megapackage with ALL dependencies or something like that? How system administrators manage where no Internet connection at all (if that possible)?
i just used wubi to install ubuntu 10.04 LTS. everything is smooth except i cant connect to internet. i get the wireless icon in the notification thing with a red exclamation point on it.ive tried two different wireless connections, the important one being a verizon Mifi 2200 intelligent hotspot (its not usb-style, look it up). no matter what wifi i try, nothing shows up when i click the internet icon in the notification thing.
I recently installed Ubuntu onto my computer. It was going great until i could not connect to the internet. I looked up the troubleshooting, and it didn't help. They all said to click on the Network Manager, which I did, but then it said to clock on "Wireless Networks" and select the network, however I was unable to click on Wireless networks, and there is no other way to connect to the internet! It isn't detecting my Wifi, and I am unsure of where to go from here.
I have been using Windows XP, and last month i had Linux Mint installed. I was connecting to the internet with an external modem and everything was running fine, until while experimenting with the settings,i bust the whole thing. What i did was to do a "right click" on the 'computer icon' at the bottom right-hand corner to disconnect and from that day i am unable to connect from Linux, but i can still do it under Windows.I had done the same thing under Windows but after going to the 'control panel/network settings' i managed to get the thing working.I went to the 'control panel' in Linux, and under 'network ' i get the message: "Auto eth0 => never". i have been trying to 'edit' the 'settings'
I am unable to connect to the internet. I have Motorola Netopia DSL (NO router) and can't connect to the internet in ANY linux distro (openSUSE, fedora, slax, mandriva, simplymepis, mint, dreamlinux, ubuntu, ubuntu studio, artist linux). The only linux distro that works right away is backtrack linux 3. All other distro do not work including new back track linux 4 because in version 4 they switched to debian. My ISP is Bellsouth and they do not want to cooperate. I was told they do not support linux.
DSL shows internet and activity lights green but it does not connect. It seems to me problem is in eth0 because when I go to terminal and ifup eth0 it gives me can't assign requested address. I have dynamic DHCP and can't assign static address.I have 2 questions:
1.- How to connect to the internet?
2.- As I said above backtracklinux 3 works out of the box but doesn't have flash. How to install flash in backtrack linux 3 so I can play chess on Yahoo games and [URL]?
I run all linux distros from live CD/DVD from external DVD drive except fedora which is on C: drive.I did try to run already network devices, dsl configuration without any results If I can go to my modem thru browser address 192.168.1.254 I would be able to solve the problem but I always get message can't connect to server.

I have installed Fedora 10 on my Intel system. I am not able to connect to internet from it. Mine is a broadband connection with ADSL+2 modem. I could connect once but afterwards it was deactivated and I got following bug report.

I installed 11.2 on an older HP Laptop which was running XP without any issues. Durring the install, the update processe failed (presumably unble to connect to respository). I am usind a wired connection and the nic is connecting to my router and is recieving an address via DHCP. I am also able to ping the workstion from the router's Web interface. However I am unbale to connect to the internet.I have turned off the Suse firewall via Yast and checked the settings against another computer running ver 11.1 .Everything appears to be correct but no joy.
Currently I have an Acer Aspire One netbook with Windows XP on it. I want to switch to Ubuntu, so I have the OS on a flash drive and I can run it fine. The only problem is,I cant see any wireless networks in range. I know the router is working because I can connect with Windows fine. A notification also pops up telling me i have to install missing drivers. But when i click on install, the progress gets to 99% and fails. It says i need the Broadcom B43 driver, but i don't know how to get it.
I've been trying for 3 days now, gone to a couple of ubuntu sites, asked some friends who unfortunately don't have the time to assist me, and gone through several forum responses on here to try to find the solution to my problem. The problem is my inability to connect to my wireless network. I have a linksys USB device for my wireless, and the wireless router is literally right next door to my room. I am able to find my router and my neighbor's router from my computer. However I can not connect to my router. It is WPA enabled, and I have the correct password. It is just unable to connect to the network, it tries for a few minutes then doesn't connect at all and says wireless network disconnected. I am currently hooked up to an unsecured wireless network, but I can't connect to the internet. I am using firefox, but it doesn't seem to connect to any site I try.

I use Hasee L141 notebook and ever since I installed ubuntu, my internet connection using both wire and wireless does not work but for the windows it works alright. 1. How do I access SystemTools?
2. Using network manager, I added a connection for Mobile Broadband, and the connection seems to work, but I still cannot connect to the Internet. Note that previously the USB modem works fine in Windows.
Modem: Huawei E1556 from Claro (Caribbean) Machine: Panasonic Toughbook CF30, dual processor. Harddisk has 5 partitions. Windows is on C:, Ubuntu on G: as a wubi file. If anyone can help, I would geatly appreciate it. Please note that currently, I can only access the internet via the Windows partition, which means if I have to download install new package(s) in Ubuntu to get this working, I'm stuck.

I'm running Linux 2.6.39.3, and when I upgraded to 3.0 by Mr. Hamaleers page here:

Everything worked fine. My computer was working too, but my internet wasn't. Since it works on the original kernel, I know that maybe it's something I was supposed to install as part of "make [variable]config" The network icon is there, but it doesn't connect automatically as 2.6.39.3 does if that helps as a part of the description.
I am using Empathy IM client to access to gadu gadu and to message with my friends. The strange thing that is happening is that I keep on being connected and then disconnected and then connected again even if I am continuously connected to my internet connection (no problem when surfing or using skype for example)It also seems to come only from me because when my girlfriend is using the same gadu gadu on her windows laptop simultaneously, she doesn´t get disconnected (whether when she is at home and using the same connection as I am or when she is outside, meaning that it doesn´t seem to come from the whole gadu gadu network)maybe it has something to do with the ports that gadu gadu is using but it is strange that sometimes it is working for a period of time and then not and then again.
Just purchased a Dell Inspiron 580 MT tower pc with Windows Professional. However unable to connect to the network or the internet when I load a copy of Ubuntu Karmic on dual boot. Windows networking and internet working fine. Is this an ethernet adaptor hardware issue? Broadcom NetXtreme 10/100/1000 Gigabit Ethernet controller-PCI Express card Will try later connecting through a usb ethernet adaptor to see if this is really the problem.
