I'm running CentOS 5.3. I have the laptop configured to suspend when the lid is closed. But it won't suspend when the lid is closed. Add if I try to suspend from the toolbar, it won't suspend.
View 3 RepliesIn 13.1 I had my laptop set to suspend when the lid is closed and have installed 13.37 now and even though its set to suspend when lid is closed it never does. I am in the power group and if I click on the battery in and choose suspend it will so I have to suspend manually.

I could manage to do it when the lid is open, however, when the laptop lid is closed, it doesn't. So I need to open laptop lid each time and it is annoying.

When I change the "When laptop lid is closed" option in Gnome Power Manager to either "Blank Screen" or "Do Nothing" (by manually using gconf-editor), the screen itself doesn't turn off when the lid is closed. Obviously not a huge deal, as I could just change the "idle before sleep" on certain occasions, but I liked that setting it to "Do Nothing" previously would actually turn off the screen when the lid was closed.

cpufreqd and cpufrequtils are installed. cat /sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq/scaling_governor' is 'ondemand'
Constant fan was not a problem in XP Pro; I just installed Debian one month ago.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Lenovo T440p.I am on Debian Jessie. I use KDE as my desktop environment. My Wifi adapter is Intel® Dual Band Wireless-N 7260. I have configured my laptop not to suspend itself when the lid is down. I can verify that the laptop still runs when the lid is down, because I can hear the music if it is already playing. However the Wifi always disconnects when the lid is down. If I am downloading a file, it always gets interrupted.

I have gotten Ubuntu configured to play the video and sound but I cant figure out a way to keep playing when I close the lid. Every time I do that it goes black. Also when I re-open it the laptop display is blank as well and will not come back on.

I just installed Ubuntu 9.10 CLI with Openbox as the WM on my Dell laptop. I installed gnome-power-manager because I like to suspend my laptop when the lid is closed. When the close the lid and reopen it, the screen is black and the computer never suspends. This happens regardless of whether or not gnome-power-manger is running is the background.

View 1 Replies View RelatedDid an upgrade from 10.04 to 10.10 and it was very smooth. One minor issue is now when I close my laptops lid (Sony Vaio) it does not sleep it just shuts downs. Same with habernate. It just shuts down all together. Then when I boot I get a brief error message to fast to read and the old 10.04 password screen rather than the new 10.10. This does not happen when I just shut down from inside Gnome and this never happened in 10.04. I am using generic video settings and all else works a charm.

I am not using the laptop screen (because it is small and flickers constantly) but only the external screen. When I shut the laptop lid the external screen blanks. There is no option in the power management dialog and the option "Activate screensaver when idle..." in the screensaver dialog is unchecked (which I would like to re-enable to blank screen when idle for x minutes). How can I get Ubuntu to leave my external screen on when the laptop lid is closed?

I want to plug my external monitor through my laptop's vga plug, close the lid and work on my monitor instead of the laptop's monitor. I looked through the gnome power management settings and when the laptop lid is closed it can only suspend, blank screen, hibernate or shutdown. I can plug my monitor and I have clone displays and it works fine but I can' find a way to shutdown the laptop screen without shutting down the vga outlet. Its a brand new Acer aspire 5734Z with a 15,6 inches screen (wich is why I want to plug in my 19 inches monitor and work on bigger screen)

Whenever I attempt to go into suspend, either by closing the laptop lid or holding ALT when clicking the power button in the top-left system menu on the desktop, my laptop briefly flashes the default GNOME lock screen, fades to black, and then hangs there. Usually, when my laptop would actually suspend, the power indicator light would change from blue to orange and slowly fade in and out. However, now it just sits on blue. There is no way to re-awaken the laptop from this state, and I have to force shutdown by holding the power button.

All I want to do is to be able to shut the lid on my laptop, have it go into suspend like it already does, but upon opening it again, successfully start up again. It'll sleep just fine, but if you close the lid and try to open it again later, the lights will indicate it is starting up, but the screen won't initialize, and I am left with a blank, black screen.I've tried a line of code to enter into my menu.lst file, and it seemed like it should work, but it borked my computer and I had to manually reinstate the line of code it had before.
View 9 Replies View RelatedWhatever way I suspend my laptop (menu, keyboard shortcut, close lid), it seems to suspend just find (no panic lights, suspend LED indicator flashing as expected). However, when i try to resume, the laptop seems to begin the proper wakeup process (for example, the DVD-drive is tested), there's a lot of HDD activity for about 5 seconds, screen does not power on, and then the laptop just shuts off.
System setup:
lucid beta 2, fully updated (just check now)
LG E-500 laptop /w nvidia gforce mobile 8400G
bios version 1.17 from June 2007 (not sure this is important)
Things I tried:
* Completely remove anything to do with gpu drivers and installed nvidia-current driver.
* Suspend stress test described here. this didn't work at all. The first test failed (with ac adapter attached) and the second test suspended but didn't automatically resume (see "the behavior" above). Also, when I booted up again, no apport bug report is created. I tried both with rtc set to utc=yes and utc=no. with utc=yes, the second test did automatically resume, but the same problem happened (laptop shutdown while resuming).
* The debugging steps described here, but I couldn't get the "no_console_suspend" option to work. I tried adding both "no_console_suspend" and "no_console_suspend=1" (without quotes) to the boot script in the grub menu, but when I did pm-suspend in tty1, the laptop really did suspend. I would like to try to do this again if someone could explain how to add this option.
Notes:
* Not sure this is relevant, but when I boot up after a failed resume attempt, wireless network is disabled (this only happens after a failed resume!!!).
* I found a package called nvram-wakeup in synaptic that seems to be related to this. This package is not installed. Should I install it?
In case this is relevant, forgot to mention I'm running ubuntu in dual-boot along side windows7.
I have installed Debian a few days ago and when I close my laptop, it goes to suspend, everything is ok but when I try to awake the screen remains off.
I am using Asus X51RL laptop (made in 2007) and it is NOT a hardware problem, suspend works fine in Windows.
I have installed squeeze on a HP notebook. I have one small problem though.It does not resume from suspend. If I shutdown -> suspend, or close the the lid, or shut downs (suspends) as expected, but whenower it backup up, the screen just stays black.Hibernate is working fine.

Whenever I try to do either, my screen fades to black and nothing happens. If I move the mouse or touch the keyboard, it comes back.

What I would like to figure out is how to tell the system to go into suspend when idle even though the lid is open. I don't know if this problem is hardware specific or just a config file edit. Just to get it out of the way, it does suspend correctly when the lid is closed - and I can tell it to suspend when the lid is open, but what I need is for it to suspend when I fall asleep working or forget I left it open without overheating / running out of battery and losing my work. I'm pretty good at doing things on linux, despite the fact that I'm running the netbook remix, so don't be afraid to tell me to open a file in the terminal or whatever.

GDM doesn't respect my settings in gnome-power-preferences and I can't seem to locate any other way to configure the power preferences for GDM. I have had 11.04 installed before as an upgrade to 10.10 and I did not have this problem in that case.
