View 2 RepliesWe are currently troubleshooting the following error, which was repeatedly being displayed on the console:
kernel: Northbridge Error, node 2<0>K8 ECC error."
After replacing all of the memory, the error remained, so we tried updating to the latest kernel. (Currently having to use centos-plus because we are using XFS)
After the kernel update the error disappeared fro 5 days (previously UNHEARD of - would often repeat several times a day), it appeared again and hasn't appeared since.
It does not seem like any real damage is done here - and I would like to suppress this error somehow. Optimally I would like it to only be forwarded to the log files - and NOT be displayed on the console.
Could someone point me to an easy way to set that up?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running Cent0S 5.2 and am trying to get the gui running from startx at the console. When it loads half the screen is scrambled and I can see parts of the desk top. it looks like a video driver issue. I ran system-config-display --reconfig --set-depth=16 --set-resolution=1024x768 and then tried system-config-display --reconfig --set-depth=16 --set-resolution=800x600. It came out a little better but still half scrambled.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI am running Centos 5.5 X86_64 and recently after updating my server, I am having problem loading gnome. When the server boots, and begins to bring up the login screen theme, I get an error that states "Could not recognize the image file format for /usr/share/gdm/themes/TreeFlower/background.png" I am able to login after clicking ok to this message, and using the "simplistic" login manager. But when the users desktop loads, there are several errors pertaining to "unsupported image format" and none of the icons are displaying correctly. They are just the default "curvy page" icon for an unassociated file type. Some of the icons do not even show up at all.
Another thing I noticed wierd is that when I try to view a png, nothing happens. When I try to open one using gimp, I get an "unsupported file type" error. When I tried to click on the "add/remove software" button I get prompted for root pass, but nothing happens. So, I tried launching pirut from CLI, and I received the following error:

View 2 Replies View RelatedIn CentOS 5.4 (Final), emacs is displaying characters as little boxes. see attached screen shot. I searched the Web and found others have this same problem with emacs in CentOS 5.4 but have not found any solution. I installed emacs in a base CentOS Amazon EC2 instance as follows:
yum -y groupinstall "GNOME Desktop Environment"
yum -y install emacs
yum -y groupinstall emacs
This issue does not arise for me in Amazon EC2 instances running Red Hat, Fedora, or Ubuntu when I install emacs as I did here. I am not X font savvy
I have mounted an NFS share with ISO images on my kvm Server. If i connect such a iso to a VM (using virt-manager) for installing a operating system i get the following error on startup: Error starting domain: internal error Process exited while reading console log output: char device redirected to /dev/pts/1 qemu: could not open disk image /mnt/iso/public/Linux/Distributions/Debian/debian-504-amd64-netinst.iso: Permission denied
The problem is definitly that kvm (or qemu or libvirt-bin, i don't know) tries to set permissions (rwx owner for libvirt-qemu, --- for kvm group, --- for other) on the file, although it has read permissions. Is it possible to change this behavior?
I wonder if there is a file containing configuration parameters of linux console.Currently I have to manually config console parameters every time.

I have installed snort and ACIDLAB on Apache+MySQL. When I view snort alerts on acidlab page, not "sig_name" but "sig_id" is displayed in the column "Signature" like below.

#1-(1-1) 2 <==?? 2010-03-29 19:29:52

View 5 Replies View RelatedAfter installing Lucid Lynx on a clean partition, as I usually do with all new releases, I had the idea of backing up my Firefox settings and stuff from the old installation with the Firefox plugin FEBE, to restore it into my new Firefox. It didn't go so well. I should've settled for just restoring the extensions, not settings and preferences too. Below is a copy of the Error Console, right after startup of Firefox. It seems something originally present (is it the Ubuntu One plugin?) was lost when I restored the FEBE files:

View 6 Replies View Relatedi been getting errors when trying to use zypper from the console. This happens in 2 pcs, and errors seem to be the same,One has 11.4 + gnome 2, standar installation (with gnome) from 11.4 DVD. The error i get whenever i run something like zypper install xxxyyy.rpm or zypper update is:
GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)
the other one, 11.4 with gnome 3 (clean install from live dvd):
GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)
GConf Error: Failed to contact configuration server; the most common cause is a missing or misconfigured D-Bus session bus daemon. See GConf configuration system for information. (Details - 1: Failed to get connection to session: The connection is closed)
I dont know if its related, but the one with gnome 3 constantly gives me (what i think is) a kernel panic when i shut down the system, it happens fast and the text on the screen is not "linear" but spread all over the screen, so i cant read the whole message, but it does say something about glib and corruption.This is actually the first time(s) ibe seen a kernel panic ever since i used ubuntu.
