CentOS 5 :: Error Mounting Device UUID=cee298a0-9c47-4a3a-ac84-23db4d20edd5 As /. No Such File Or Directory

CentOS 5.3 has been running fairly good except for a slow ethernet connection so I thought I would upgrade to CentOS 5.4 to see if that improved things. I had previously changed fstab and menu.lst to use UUID instead of LABEL in order to insulate myself from partition label changes I wanted to make. This worked fine in CentOS 5.3. When I attempted to upgrade from 5.3 to 5.4 using the installation disk and telling it to upgrade rather than do a new install, the installation correctly found my root partition as /dev/sdb8. When I proceeded with the upgrade I received the error:
"Error mounting device UUID=cee298a0-9c47-4a3a-ac84-23db4d20edd5 as /. No such file or directory. This most likely means the partition has not been formatted."
But of course it has been formatted and is my / partition running CentOS 5.3 as I type. how to fix this to get CentOS 5.3 upgraded ? Di I have to use LABEL in fstab and menu.lst for my partitions,or perhaps just for my root partition ? Any other ideas why this is failing ?
my Dad's computer was running quite slow here lately (Running Hardy Heron). I decided to go ahead and run all the software updates, and had it go ahead and update the OS as well. Well, the install went fine, but upon booting, it crashes to busy-box with the dreaded "ALERT! /dev/disk/by-uuid/########## not found error". I found that if I waited for a while, then cd'd to the by-uuid folder, this file eventually showed up. So I figured maybe if I 'exit' from there, it would boot up and find the file. Au Contrair, things get stranger! I end up with a purple screen telling "An Error Occured While Mounting /". Here's what it looks like: This is quite frustrating, I'd like to get it fixed and hopefully save the data he has on there! I remember having the by-uuid error once before after running an update I think, but can't remember how I fixed it! Feels like I just used the 'exit' trick a couple of boots and it was fine??
I have recently experienced a problem that occurred after an automatic update. After the update it said restart system. So I did and proceeded as normal. when after the reboot Firefox suddenly stopped working, crashed and upon clicking it again only a blank box appeared. Then my other apps followed and i soon couldn't do anything so i shut down my computer. Upon restart I got a black screen with tons of text and something around the lines of

So I rebooted and pressed shift to open that grub thing and booted from an earlier kernel. This time it said checking HD for errors and after booted normally. Everything seemed fine but next day it did it again. Starting with Firefox crashing and then everything else. I again booted from a previous kernel and it worked but upon checking with uname -a it did not list the kernel i chose to boot from. So I decided to upgrade 10.04 to 10.10. This upgraded my kernel and deleted the old ones so i am hoping i am good now.
I'm running Kubuntu Karmic on my Dell Inspiron laptop - about 200 bug fixes behind because my only available internet is a cellular connection on a crappy wi-fi router - and last night, I suspended it, but it shut down instead. Not a problem, it does this fairly often, figure the RAM gets jostled or something.
But when I go to boot it up, it gets stuck at the pre-loading screen before getting garbled and dropping to the shell, where it says "mount: mounting /dev/disk/by-uuid/[insert hex code here] failed: invalid argument". Of course, mounting /root/sys, /root/dev and /root/proc fails, (directory does not exist) and it gives me the busybox initramfs prompt.
My ubuntu stops when mounting system hdd. The screen display the following messages :

I suspect the disk manager pysdm that i had just installed today and it had crash during the previous session. The /etc/fstab file does not exist anymore and i cant rename the fstab.bak because the disk is read-only even for my root user
Okay, so on occasion when I boot into ubuntu I get this error

I get the error when I open any of the kernel versions or any recovery mode. Ubuntu 10.10 Desktop is the only OS installed on the computer, which is a Lenovo S10-3. I can eventually get it to go away, sometimes by repeatedly unplugging it and plugging it back in, and sometimes I will boot into GParted, do nothing, then restart and it will work.I have found some solutions online, but all of them involve the error happening as a result of dual booting with Windows.I have made no major system changes recently, so I can't see anything like that being the problem.
I just attempted to install to a USB drive, and somehow in the process, GRUB overwrote my Windows 7 bootloader on the internal disk. My work laptop is now booting into a grub recovery whenever my USB key isn't present (with error: no such device and the uuid) - and hangs on a blinking cursor whenever the key is plugged in.I'm not familiar with what my options are for grub rescue, but ls shows (hd0) (hd0,msdos2) (hd0,msdos1) (fd0)
My laptop is encrypted, so I don't have much chance of recovery unless I can get back to the windows bootloader.
I install Debian on a Power book g3 and i need the right click function. I try mouseemu but it give me an error: open: No such file or directory No uinput device found! Make sure the uinput module is loaded or CONFIG_INPUT_UINPUT is compiled in kernel. if there are other way for the right click function?
I have installed live cd on usb pendrive. Everything works great. How can I find out which device driver it is using? Where are the device driver files stored? How do you specify the device driver when mounting a device?
an idea what might be wrong with fs 0x06 FAT16? I have a mobile, Sony Ericsson K750i, which was mounted in previous distributions without problems (up to 11.1). Now I use 11.2 and I am unable to mount it. I tried to do it via yast, but it says "non-existing or uknokwn file system" even it was recognized as 0x06 FAT16. I read that this fs is outdated, however still supported.
So I've a computer with a lot of disks which is running Ubuntu 9.04. The setup is made od a software raid 1 array of 200 MB for use in /boot (md0), then another raid1 array of the remaining space as a unique PV for the LVM2 vg0. This vg0 is split in many lv, for /, /usr .... and swap. A few days back, one of the raid1 disk went wrong. So as the raid is built on 160Gb disks and nobody in my town sells so little disks I bought a couple of 320GB disks. The partitioning was made like the original partitions, except that the second partition is way bigger than it was. I replaced the failed disk in the arrays, and now I've an md0 of 200 MB and an md1 of roughly 150GB as it was previously and all is in sync. This replacement was made using a rescue disk (in order to be sure that the machine was not locking anything...)
So I thought it was fine. But upon reboot on the hard disks, I get a fast GRUB message "error: no such device : <UUID ending in 4ec05>. when I start the first Ubuntu entry I get the same error. So I edit the boot entry, remove the "search --no-floppy --fs-uuid --set <UUID ending in 4ec05> " and boot the damn thing. When booted I ran :

I understand that there are some X11 bitmaps not included in Centos 5.4 however I have no idea how to install them.
I was looking at the root filesystem folder for mounting a device when I noticed extra folders. I'm using an encrypted filesystem so I'm not sure if it's that, a break in or the default Red Hat layout. I searched these forums and Google to no avail on extra folders. The root system contains the following:

I've to make a Windows 2000 share on my Server Linux CentOS 5.1 with all the updates installed with yum. I've a directory on a Windows 2000 that contains some images for a catalogue. I have my internet site on CentOS 5.1 with a Apache - Mysql - PHP web server. I have to mount my directory on a share in /mnt/catalogueimages and made a symbolic link from my /var/www/html/mysite/catimages to this samba share.

The problem is that I can't see the images via browser. I have tried also to put some images in the directory /mnt/catalogueimages, deleting the mount point, in order to see if the problem was in apache: the images are visible via browser. Why I don't reach to see the images mounted with samba?
I have attached a 2 TB LUN to the HP Blade Server running CentOS 5.3 via a Qlogic HBA. To provide the cluster users with sufficient storage areaa, I want to move only the home directory from the default partitioning schema to the attached storage and leave the remaining partitions on the main harddrive of the server. So, having copied user directories & files to the new location, i.e., /cluster/home2 on the new storage partition, what modification(s) should I make on the server? /export/home is the default location for the users. /cluster/home2 is NFS shared directory serving as the new home location for the users.

We have an application that on a SCO box that we are converting to Linux.Basically it mount a CDROM drive and pulls data files off of it. We can mount the drive and it displays all the file/directory names in uppercase. Is there a way to do it in Linux?
which run without errors but an attempt to mount throws up the above error as well as saying - you must specify the file type (tried that) - and fails to mount. I've tried using YaST to format and encrypt it which throws up the same error when I run mount but actually does actually mount the filesystem Googling around has brought up info saying that it's probably a race condition brought on by invalid udev rules. I've got a (mostly) working system and the udev rules documentation leaves more confused than when I started.
After upgrading from 10.04 to 10.10 I have had some problems booting my Ubuntu. It all started when restarting after the upgrade, and I got the error;

BusyBox v1.13.3 (Ubuntu 1:1.13.3.1ubuntu11) built-in shell (ash)(initramfs) After searching the Internet, I found a "solution". I just had to boot with a USB stick with the Ubuntu Rescue Remix (the normal Ubuntu USB won't boot either), and i wrote;

Now I could start my Ubuntu again. So whats the problem? If I turn off my computer the normal way, there is no problem, but if I log off, put it into sleep mode, if something happens and I have to turn it off with the button it goes back to the first problem, and I have to reboot it with the USB stick and fix it all over again! If I don't have the USB stick with me, I probably wont be able to use my laptop!

Doesn't seem to matter which version, every time I try to install Software raid on an Ubuntu server system, it blows up with this error. Seems I've had trouble for several versions.

I've done it on Centos Fine, and followed the many different instructions I've seen for Ubuntu. The only luck I've had was with bios raid, but I would much rather let Mdadm handle things.

I install both as letting Ubuntu decide partitions for one drive, do the same for the other, and create a raid, and do them from scratch. No dice, same problem. I've tried that one as logical and as primary too. No difference. Something just doesn't like booting from a raid 1 Mirror. I've tried installing grub on both HDDs (sda1 + sdb1)I've tried several CDs, burned from several machines. Re-downloaded from Torrent and from the website. The DVD drives work since I purchased new DVD drives for both one workstation and the server. Things install fine under CentOS, software raid comes up.
I was installing last night some applications , then i forgot to plugin my laptop so suddenly it turned off , anyways today i turned it on , while booting it gave me this error : "error where found when mounting the disk file /"so i press I to ignore , and it works , but now how can i fix this error?
problem installing phpMyAdmin on CentOS 5 I believe i did install phpMyAdmin Correctly I can even see it in the directory in usr/share/phpmyadmin I also setup the blowfish password and i also change the [auth] cookies to html. and i allow 127.0.0.1 to access it But when i type [URL] it replies no such file or directory. Is there any C function that will translate UUIDs into device names? I have a little graphical mount tool that can read user-mountable device names from /etc/fstab and lets you cycle through the list and mount or unmount them. But it doesn't work with UUIDs, which are preferred these days. Is there any way around this?
I am very much new to Linux programming. My question is Is there any way to read UUID of a device or partition in linux programatically. Is there any c/c++ API for user-space applications. I found some commands "sudo vol_id --uuid /dev/sda1", "sudo blkid", "ls -l /dev/disk/by-uuid/". But all are commands which we need to run in terminal. But I need to achieve this from a c/c++ program. (FYI: I need to read uuid of root filesystem ("/") where Linux has been installed.)
I can not use nfs from F10 client to F12 server. nfs mount on F10 to F12 times out anf nfs4 mount gives "mount.nfs4: mounting localhost:/home failed, reason given by server: No such file or directory" I have tried to close firewall and set selinux to permissive mode on both client and server with same result. Samba works fine. On server [root@flokipal ~]# mount -t nfs4 localhost:/home /media/tonlist mount.nfs4: mounting localhost:/home failed, reason given by server: No such file or directory
