CentOS 5 :: Dependency Conflict With Latest MySQL And Dovecot

Running CentOS 5.3
Recently installed - manually, not with yum, the rpm distribution of the latest MySql (5.1.34) as I needed the latest version, not the one that YUM lists. I am now trying to set up (for the first time) an email server on the same system, and I have been led to believe that postfix and dovecot are the way to go. However when I try to install dovecot I get this:

For 3 days now I've been trying to setup a CentOS box with Apache, PHP, MySQL and iRedMail (Postfix/Dovecot) Everything is great apart from Apache, which is returning 403 errors: "You don't have permission to access / on this server.". The apache error_log file says: "[Mon Jul 26 14:02:32 2010] [error] [client x.x.x.x] (13)Permission denied: access to / denied" (I've blanked out my IP). I have no idea what's happening here. Apache works fine until I add my VirtualHost which is:

I'm having a hard time getting part of Asterisk (the open source PBX) called asterisk-addons to compile with mysql CDR support which I need to enable Realtime I believe. I've spent the whole day trying to fault find this one (including thinking I had ruined my box and creating a new CentOS build!) and am pretty worn outWhen I attempt to install asterisk-addons (I've tried 1.6.0.1, 1.6.0.1-patch and 1.6.1.0-rc3), I get the following line in a ./configure:
checking for mysql_config... /usr/bin/mysql_config
checking for mysql_init in -lmysqlclient... no
Then when I do a make menuselect, MySQL is not selectable and XXX"d out:

I have CentOS 5.4 installed with lighty and MySQL installed via yum. not a problem. The issue become when I'm having problem with the current mysql that I installed via yum which I believe its currently at version 5.1.42-2. So I'd like to upgrade it to the latest available version of mysql. Except I can't figure out whether to download the generic glibc32 version or just get the RHEL5 version or find the mysql enterprise version somewhere. So, not knowing what I'm doing, I downloaded the RHEL5 version since it's closer to CentOS 5.4. Except for whatever reason the mysqli is not installed or configured properly and I'm not sure how to fix it.
Any suggestion? Everything was working nicely when I used yum to install, except the problem with the version of mysql that's offered in the repository. So I'd like to request a suggestion on how to either somehow upgrade mysql using yum and there's a different repository that I didn't know, or perhaps download a proper latest and greatest mysql, install and have it configured so that mysqli work properly.

I'm trying the DVD authoring stuff on Slackware, so okay I have downloaded Tovid along with its dozens of dependencies that has their own dependencies and so on...Now, one of the dependency is x264 (for encoding H264/AVC video streams). I already have alien bob's VLC from the uk site (restricted packages) and I've read on his blog (if I'm not mistaken) that it has the H264 capability (don't know how to describe it ).Is there any chance that it will conflict with this x264 library?

While trying to install the amazon mp3 downloader I got this package installer message : "Error: Dependency is not satisfiable: libboost-filesystem1.34.1" Amazons ubuntu version of this downloader is for the 9.04 version and not the10,04 LTS which I am using.

I am running an application that requires use of my /etc/hosts file. In it, I have my machine name and its LAN ip address. The program creates a service on a specific port, then attempts to connect to it based on the host name. So my hosts file has to be correct.I added the nameservers to resolv.conf and now my application will not run. My guess is that the computer is checking the name servers first, timing out then checking the hosts file.Is there a way I can tell the system to check the hosts file first, then DNS. I thought it should behave that way by default, but it does not appear to.

I downloaded the latest version of Tellico as a .deb file directly from the Tellico website,since the version available in the repositories no longer works with Amazon. This new version has been available at the web site since November,but has yet to be updated on the Ubuntu sites.Anyway,I tried to install it by double-clicking it in Nautilus. That brought up Package Manager which says that it cannot be installed - "Error: Dependency is not satisfiable". Is there anyway to force either Package Manager or aptitude ot dpkg to install the package along with any dependencies that are required?

I was particulary suprised to have nothing in my logs regarding an IP address conflict in Linux compared to the windows and its popup !Did I miss something in the logs ? Or is there someting to configure to have it ?Otherwise can I do something to have the date in the dmesg log file ?Here my story about this problem :My linux machine was monitored by Nagios so i've seen some Up/down/up/down phenomene when I came to work this morning. I tried to figured out what's wrong browsing the logs (messages & dmesg & mail/root)... but nothing usefull so far...Then I hearded that a collegue booted a old Windows machine the day before. I checked this machine and there was the classic windows popup regarding a IP address conflict! So that was the problem, the Windows machine have the same IP than de Linux box.I was particulary suprised to have nothing in my logs regarding an IP address conflict in Linux compared to the windows and its popup !Did I miss something in the logs ? KVM is istalled using these instructions: [URL] When I run qemu-kvm to boot a VM off the Windows Install .iso with the -no-acpi parameter the VM displays the following:

Without the -no-acpi parameter, the Windows Server 2008 guest shows a blue screen with "stop: 0x000000A5" meaning "The ACPI Bios in this system is not fully compliant to the specification." I have a VPS (Mosso Cloud Server) that is administered and monitored by Platinum Server Mgmt. I have CentOS 5 and Apache 2.2 installed. I requested that my Document Root be set to /var/[URL] and also a subdomain setup to /var/[URL]. They responded by telling me that it would, "[This would] cause a problem with the permissions and that it will be a permissions conflict if you set them to /var/www/. For security and compatibility purposes, they should be in /home/username/.... It can be put anywhere in there." This is the first time I've been involved with any server administration, but while coding on numerous private vps's before, they had a setup similar to what I was requesting. Am I incorrect in my understanding of the previous situations and the Mgmt company is in fact correct?

Basically I have a triple boot setup on a mac pro tower. Windows /osx /centos 5.3 everything was great until I tried setting up my Wacom. I did get it setup but in the process revealed a problem I was having that I didn't notice until this point. Mind you my system boots perfectly everything runs perfectly except I believe my DVDrom and rear usb ports are trying to share the same IRQ and from what it looks like they don't want to play nice with each other. Eventually CentOS kills the IRQ thus killing both devices. Everything works fine on the windows and mac osx side. I have tried unplugging and replugging the DVDROM, I wanted to try another ide channel but the motherboard only has one. I have changed the device from auto to master to slave. When the DVDROM is removed i have no IRQ errors in my dmesg. I forgot to add that adding IRQpoll to my grub boot pretty much destroys the system.... hard lock within 20 seconds of loging in. In CentOS, is there anyway that I can force the DVDROM to it's own IRQ?

I am running CentOS 5.2 on a server here in my home. It runs Dovecot and Postfix and also serves as a website host for a small website of mine. Everything works fine. POP, SMTP, Webmail, WWW, all works great and has for ages.Here's the issue. I recently reinstalled a clean copy of Windows 7 on a workstation in my home onto a new harddrive(I still have the old drive int he machine so I can boot to it as well). I setup the Windows Live Mail client to send/receive mail with my mail/web server. However, it won't connect to the POP server on my server machine.Here's the kicker. If I boot to the old harddrive that is running Windows 7, it connects fine to my mailserver and can send/receive just fine. I've checked, rechecked and rechecked and all mail settings on the mail clients on both drives are identical.
Note: The installations of Windows 7 on both drives is identical. Same computer name/ same credentials, same IP, etc. However, as I stated, I can send/receive email with my server if I boot to my old drive, but if I boot to my new drive, I cannot send/receive.

and I can not seem to find a php-mysql that works with MySQL 5.1
I followed the below thread and added the CentOS-Testing.repo and did a yum update php and it updated 30 packages, but when I try to install php-mysql I get :

I am trying to prepare procedures for email restoration following a file system loss that contained user Maildir directories. Assuming that my most recent backup is earlier than the last time that many users received and downloaded email, the restored mail directories will not contain messages that were previously received and downloaded to clients following the backup and preceding the crash. This is not a problem in itself, however, it does appear to cause problems for the email clients.
My desire would be for email clients (outlook, outlook express, thunderbird) to properly recognize the messages that currently exist on the server, ignore previously downloaded messages and download newly arriving messages.The behavior that I am seeing is that the email client fails to recognize that any new messages exist and fails to download any messages at all. By removing the dovecot.index... files and the uidlist file, the clients will download ALL messages that are present in the "new" and "cur" directories even if previously downloaded. This is also an undesirable outcome.

I am running a quad core centos 5.4 box that is having a strange problem with dovecot. The administration panel is able to send emails through dovecot but not any of the user accounts (ie with webmail). I've done a bit of research with what could be wrong but haven't had any luck so far I am also having a weird problem with apache: on a c++/php bittorrent application I was going to be running on a subdomain of my main site I get a 500 error every time I try to log in. The only way to get rid of the 500 error is to clear the chache (so its horribly broken somehow). The error generated in the log whenever I try to log in is that "ffmpeg is already loaded" (which I am running on the main site and is critical). Is there a way of either repairing my apache install or excluding ffmpeg on the subdomain in the conf or something?

Fresh instalaation of Centos 5.3 (32 bit machine). Got the Dag-Wier repos set up. Ran yum install videolan-client which found one missing dependency: libdvdread.so.3 is needed by vlc.0.9.9-2.el5.rf.i386. Looking in /usr/lib, I find libdvdread.so.4.1.3 installed, but no libdvdread.so.3. I created a symboloic link libdvdread.s0.3 -> libdvdread.so.4..1.3 and rand ldconfig. Tried to install videolan-client again with yum but got the same failed dependency. how to get vlc installed?

After doing an update a couple of days ago (had previously upgraded to 5.6), the font size in firefox (file forward reload, etc), terminal and the panel (using xfce) are significately smaller. Searching the web, mail lists and the forums have not resulted in finding anyone else with this problem. I did notice that glibc has a bug that is currently being worked on at Redhat but it is unclear if the font problem I am seeing is related. Note also, that the initial upgrade to Centos 5.6 was successful.
