Sep 23, 2011

I just migrated from debian to Centos, and I have a problem i cant resolve. If you go to [URL]... you will see the blue background on the images links, that shoudlnt happen, i checked css and html and its all correct, feel free to check it if you want to but theres no problem there, there is a "border="0"" that should work but it isnt. It was working good on debian, and I dont have the original httpd.conf by the way.

Ubuntu :: Desktop Background Flashing Blue/green?

Jan 9, 2011

My wallpaper, regardless of what is chosen, flashes to blue/green (like an old Win95 desktop color) every 10-15 seconds. It stays that way for a second, then goes back to what is set. Also, it seems to 'fade in' to the blue/green, then fades back to the chosen wallpaper (albeit a very fast fade). Icons on the desktop are unaffected.I've tried disabling all desktop effects, and it still does it. The only way to stop it is to reboot, which seems to fix the problem for 24 hours or so, then it starts again.

Fedora Installation :: Blue Background Booting Instead Of Purple One Of Ubuntu

Sep 5, 2011

make my own home server to play with. While reading a guide I found out about a package of software called Amahi. Very easy and yet so powerful says the site. That's what I need! I looks cool and indeed pretty easy. I already start smiling because I have this old Ubuntu 11.04 computer here. Then I see that Amahi runs best on Fedora 14 and that the support for Ubuntu is still in Alpha phase. No problem, let's install F14 then. I put everything right in the BIOS. I downloaded the DVD iso image, burned it and put it in my drive. Nothing happens, soon I realise that drive only accepts CD's. I quickly change it with a CD/DVD drive of another computer, but still nothing happens. Then I read about this LiveUSB thing. I do everything needed and change boot sequence to Removable. It still keeps booting Ubuntu on Hard Disk 0. My last resort: Fedora Live i686 iso on a CD. Things go as expected. What am I doing wrong? I just want to see that (probably) blue background of Fedora booting instead of that purple one of Ubuntu.

Ubuntu :: Force Evolution To Open All Links In Background?

Jul 19, 2010

When checking emails, many will be notifications from forum threads or other internet links. I have noticed it is very inconsistent in the way it opens them. Sometimes the browser will stay in the background so I can keep reading the emails and keep clicking on the links for reading in the browser afterwards. Other times the browser will jump to the front with every link so I have to keep switching back to Evo.

And other times it's a mix of both, seems completely random.

I just installed 10.10 and am trying to install java. I opened the terminal and got java and the install went fine. Then the terminal turned into a light blue background that says "Package Configuration" with a grey text box titled "Configuring sun-java-jre" and then has the java license agreement.I pressed enter assuming that would accept the agreement but it did not. How do I accept the license agreement so the installation can continue...?

Ubuntu :: Links Browser Script - Automatically Fills In The Credentials On The Links Login Page?

Dec 6, 2010

At my Uni, we use a web-based login for our internet connections. Its based off of Cisco, and every Wednesday night every computer on campus must re-enter their credentials to use the network.

Normally on my several computers I simply pull up the Terminal, point links to google.com using

Code:

And enter my credentials when Cisco redirects to the login page.

Literally, the process is

Code:

Then ENTER to accept the redirect, down arrow to skip over the logo image, USERNAME, ENTER, PASSWORD, ENTER, ENTER.

Naturally, this is EXTREMELY time consuming, as I have about 5 computers located around campus and must physically walk to the machines and login every single week.

My question is, How would I formulate a program that does the following;

1) checks for connectivity (i.e. is able to reach/resolve to the greater part of the internet) and

2) automatically fills in the credentials on the links login page?

Programming :: Scripting : Change Markdown Links To Wikitext Links?

Feb 3, 2009

I have a personal wiki of notes, with now thousands of links in markdown format:

[link text](http://example.com)

but now that fckeditor is available for mediawiki (very beta), it has become much better to just stick with wikitext format. There are only a few conversions to do: tables, links, and bulleted lists. The lists are a fairly simple regex and fckeditor magically reformats the tables, so all I'm left with is the links. But I'm not a regex master. How do I reformat code...

CentOS 5 :: Sending Process To Background?

Apr 30, 2011

It's my first post and think not last here. I'm new to Linux system ( had a bit of unix programming at school but forgot already ). Please, take a good care of nooby me Now, let's get to the point

I have CentOS installed on one of my machnce, its my PHP development server. I also wanted to run a Minecraft server on it. I would like to skip autostart with init.d thing and be able to control it's run manually, but remotely. Thing is, when i log via putty to server and start server the server output is in terminal. When I close puty, ran application closes also. So I need to have putty window ran all the time.

So, since many programs can be run as background task (like httpd). Is there a way to log via putty. Start application and send it to process... log out of putty ( and application doesn't shut down with putty)?

Also, would be nice if I was possible to log to putty and switch to that application, so i could see server output, info and Issue commands. Basically, I want to start a service and be able to manage it via putty. and not close it when i terminate putty.

PS: I have installed Windows on CentOS server. Is there a way to issue a system start without loading whole GUI thing? When I was installing it I thought it would be easier to manage it with GUI, but now loading it only eats system resources and i unplugged monitor and mouse nad manage it only from Putty

CentOS 5 :: GNOME Desktop Icons And Background Not Loading / Get Them To Work?

Jan 13, 2010

I am running CentOS 5.4, which I am occasionally managing via VNC from windows machine. This all occured after one long VNC session although I can't confirm this was the real reason. I also must say that I've seen some posts from people that had the same problem, but not anything helpful. Here is what happens:

Even if I start the machine from scratch I get the following error messages just before the login prompt and type of session window shows:

COULDN'T RECOGNIZE THE IMAGE FILE FORMAT FOR THE FILE '/USR/SHARE/GDM/THEMES/TREEFLOWER/BACKGROUND.PNG

THERE WAS AN ERROR LOADING THE THEME AND THE DEFAULT THEME COULD NOT BE LOADED. ATEMPTING TO START THE STANDARD GREETER.

If I choose GNOME and login I get more errors (for every icon I guess) saying:

COULD NOT LOAD ICON. UNRECOGNIZED FILE FORMAT.

Desktop then loads but there is no background image (other backgrounds don't work either) and the icons are question marks. All the menus and programs work normally.
KDE on the other hand works normally with all visuals, so I assume there must be something wrong with GDE PNG library or something, maybe GDE corruption. If I make another user it's the same story.

CentOS 5 Networking :: Allow The User Only See The Size Of The File, And Not The File + Symbolic Links?

Feb 23, 2009

I'm researching about symbolic links been used with samba / CIFS:I'd like that the user that uses a MS-Windows OS could see my shared folder on CentOS 5 and the symbolic links that are inside this folder. Well, it works but, the user will see that the size of the file is bigger than the real file. Apparently, CIFS gets the size of the symbolic link (aproxim.32K) and add it to the size of the file.Example 1: 100KB file, used with shared folder, MS-Windows's user will see 100KBExample 2: 100KB file, used with symbolic link inside a shared folder, MS-Windows's user will see 132KB. (Sym link + size of file)Is there a way to allow the user only see the size of the file, and not the file + symbolic links ?

General :: Need Music Player That Isn't Annoying

Jun 15, 2010

I've been ripping my CDs to digital for about 10-12 years, and for about 8-10 years, all my new purchases of music have been in digital form. My favored method of organizing my stuff has been by using subdirectories code...

It seems that every music program that has the ability to manage your music collection wants to use MP3 tags to do so. I severely do not want that behavior. I would like to be able to automatically create a library based on pathnames.

Winamp cooperates with my directory structure, but Rhythmbox / Songbird / Exaile seem to be hard-coded to just read id3 tags and operate according to that.

Fedora :: Random And Annoying System Freezes In F13

Aug 7, 2010

I'm getting very random full system freezes with F13. The keyboard stops responding completely. Sometimes the mouse (and the mouse only) still works. I those cases, I can log in via ssh, kill kdm, and everything goes back to normal until the next freeze. However, in most cases, I have to do a hard reboot. Sometimes the system goes on for days without a problem, and sometimes it freezes 10 times in a day (It's in one of those days that the bug-screen saved me from flying out the window). I also had this problem on F12. I'm not sure if its video-driver related as both nvidia and nouveau experience this behaviour. In fact, I'm not at all sure what the cause may be.

Ubuntu :: Those Annoying File System Checks?

May 19, 2010

I have my Media Center running Ubuntu 10.04, and it's annoying to have that "Your disk drives are being checked for errors" message every so often. And ofcourse, as Murphy's law states, it usually happens when I'm in a hurry to quickly watch something.

Ofcourse, I can press 'C' (cancel) all the time. But I guess Ubuntu set up this file check interval for a reason, right? I was wondering if it's save to change the interval so it's less often. Or is it easy to configure the check to occur at SHUTDOWN? That's when most people don't care what the computer does anymore.

Also, although it's a pretty fresh install, any Ubuntu on my machine has never ever ever ever worked flawlessly and neither does this one. More often then not, on shutdown, the computer doesn't shut down but just sits there with a black screen or with the ubuntu logo. So I just power it off. Does this scenario make it unwise to tone down on the number of file checks?

Slackware :: Track Down The Cause Of An Annoying XFCE Behavior?

Jan 13, 2011

I'm using -current and XFCE 4.6.2 hasn't been playing very nice. Its menu has an odd behavior. AFAIK, XFCE's menu is automatically generated based on the .desktop files from /usr/share/applications and somewhere else when it comes to wine programs. The menu has an "Other" tab, which includes Gvim and, ever since I installed it, Civilization IV BTS.The problem is that sometimes this "other" menu just disappears after staying logged in for some time, like overnight. I was thinking that this had something to do with suspending to ram, but I don't think that's the case as I've been suspending over and over and the "other" menu just stays there.I don't know if someone else has noticed similar behavior so I'm not waiting for an answer as to what may be causing the issue. I'd like to know where I can start looking for the cause.XFCE masters, where can I start looking?
