View 1 Replies View RelatedI have trouble when typing in Open Office Writer, Kmail, and zim, among other applications. It's not due to unintentional use of the 'insert' key, either. When I type in these applications, the word I am typing often disappears entirely if I don't add a space, return, or punctuation at the end of the word, or use the arrow keys. For example, when setting up a profile in Kmail, I typed my email address into the settings dialog box, and it kept removing the last part of the address: "myname@univ.edu" would always become "myname@univ." unless I added a space after the edu.
When I first encountered this behavior, in Writer, I thought it was a bug with the AutoComplete feature. But now that I've seen it in other applications, I think it is something more general. how to stop the unexpectedly deletion of words while typing?
I am trying to find an application with low dependencies ( not okular ) that i can use to book mark my pdf's and ebook's. I am reading tutorials and its driving me nuts not being able to book mark my position or key topics. It would be nice to have something to manage all my books. I am currently using evince and its ok. As stated above I need to make things more...well..readable. I currently use gnome. I dont want to switch to kde. Okular worked well in the past; however, once all the requirements are met its almost kde.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI just installed GNAT GPS and would like it to display under Applications->Programming drop down menu. How does one do this? I have read about creating a .desktop file but tried that and it still does not appear under the menu I like. It does appear on the desktop but not because of the .desktop file.
OS: fedora 14 63-bit
CPU: CPU AMD-64
An example file (if needed) would be nice.
Also, just as a extra, has anyone found the GNAT GPS icon (.png) file?
I am using OMAP-L138 chip which has ARM 9 core and runs linux. The device which I am making stores some data. I have to retirve that data using USB interface. For this, I have to make an application which communicates with the device drivers provided by the ARM linux(which comes with the OMAP L-138 *) so that we can transfer the data stored in the device to a computer.
My question: Suppose I make such an application which makes the host Linux computer detect my device connected at its USB port and then transfer the stored data to the computer. Will windows computers be able to detect my device? What should I do so that my device can transfer data to both Linux and Windows pc?
I'm interested in altering the activity-monitor/pointer on my distro or at least finding out more about it. Is it part of Gnome or KDE or is it else where?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI seem to be seeing some weird behavior in kubuntu with KDE 4.3.2 and KDE 4.3.5 for Kubuntu 9.10 32-bit.I have a few programs in my home folder. For instance Eclipse and Mendeley. it seems that when i create a Link to Application does not launch them. Here is how I create the links.
-> I right click and create a new "Link to Application"
-> I click on the Application tab and browse to where the shell script, or executable is.
and when I try to launch them it does not work. The link is using the absolute path. I tried setting the working directory and using a relative path but nothing. If I run the link in a terminal it says "Warning: Could not find" and the application I set. Now this seems to not be a problem for system applications like Kate. If i change the link to launch Kate it works perfectly.
Is it possible to suggest an application to appear in the "Featured Applications" list in the Ubuntu Software Center?I would like to suggest that "OpenShot Video Editor" is included.

perfVar.zsh :

[code]...
Performance test result:
> time ./perfVar.zsh BigTextFile > /dev/null
./perfVar.zsh FE > /dev/null 6.86s user 0.32s system 100% cpu 7.177 total
> time ./perfCat.zsh BigTextFile > /dev/null
./perfCat.zsh FE > /dev/null 0.01s user 0.10s system 91% cpu 0.118 total
I would have thought that accessing a VARIABLE was way faster than reading a FILE on the file system... Why this result ?Is there a way to optimize the perfCat.zsh script by reducing the number of accesses to the file system ?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI am using a VRS for ftp operations. I have bought it with OpenSuSe 11.3 installed without any Control Panel installed. I have used NX and installed IceWM as windows manager. It works really great. Then system wanted me to upgrade. I did so. After upgrade to 11.4, my programs screwed up. They don't show any text at all but squares instead. I have tried everything i know to fix this but i could not manage to repair it.
My VRS has 512mb RAM , OpenSuse 11.4 (32-Bit) and has no control panel. I use yast through SSH Telnet client (Putty).
I have recently bought a new notebook, an ASUS K501UX, and I have encountered some problems installing Debian 8.3 on it.
In fact, already during the installation process it looks like there are some problems with the video card (NVIDIA GeForce GTX 950M), since the lower part of the screen is just black (even if it still "exists", that is the mouse can go "behind" it and click the "next" or "cancel" buttons which are "covered" by the black stripe): [URL] ....
This problem persists also after the installation. Furthermore, since the screen has a 4k resolution (3640x2160) all icons, windows and texts are painfully small: [URL] ....
As you can see, however, if I take a screenshot all the desktop is visualized. This is what the screen actually looks like in the lower part: [URL] ....
I tried changing the resolution from the Settings, but apart from 3640x2160 no other options are available. Furthermore, the display is labelled as "Unknown display": [URL] ....
I then tried to change it with xrandr, but the output of xrandr command is the following:
Code: Select allxrandr: Failed to get size of gamma for output default
Screen 0: minimum 3840 x 2160, current 3840 x 2160, maximum 3840 x 2160
default connected primary 3840x2160+0+0 0mm x 0mm
3840x2160 0.00*
I then looked around the web, and found that this is a problem related to the video card driver. So, I followed the DebianWiki on the subject to install the driver, namely I installed the nvidia-driver package and then configured xorg with nvidia-xconfig. However, rebooting Debian, all I got is a blank screen with a flashing pointer, and xserver not working at all (if I press Alt+F3 and login and then try startx I get a long list of deadly-sounding errors like "screen not found").
What should I do? Should I try installing the drivers from the NVIDIA website? I've read (also in the DebianWiki) that this can cause problems to the system. Or is it really a driver problem? Why doesn't it detect the screen?
Just installed 10.04. When I'm using empathy, the spell checker says all sorts of correctly spelled words are incorrect, such as "eventually" and "examples".Does empathy use the system's dictionary or it's own? Is there a way to download a better dictionary?
