It doesn't show it on the device-notifier, or fdisk, and not sure if this will be any use to you. In windows it appears immediately as a MSD, doesn't show as a modem or anything first.

General :: Windows XP Setup Doesn't Recognize Netbook's Harddrive?

Mar 4, 2010

Before Christmas, I wiped all partitions off my Acer Aspire One D150 netbook and installed Jolicloud Linux to try out. It's great, but I'm missing too much of my Windows-only software so I'd like to switch back. The problem I'm having is that the Windows XP Home setup CD is starting up the installer fine, but when it comes to selecting the harddrive to install on it's not finding anything.I've tried using GParted to wipe all partitions again and create a new FAT32 partition, but that's not being picked up by Windows XP setup either. (I've tried setting the 'boot' flag on this partition in GParted as well, but no change.)Is FAT32 not the correct paritition type for Windows XP Home? I'm thinking this isn't relevant at this point, because Windows XP setup doesn't seem to be mounting the HDD, nevermind analysing what partitions it has on it already.

Ubuntu :: 8.10 - Cell Phone Not Seen In Bluetooth Applet

Jul 26, 2010

I am trying to connect my cell phone through a Bluetooth dongle in Ubuntu 8.10 but when I try setting up a new device my cell phone is not seen. I tried reading some guides, I installed everything needed but still it doesn't work, some files are even missing (probably because they guides are for older versions of Ubuntu but i can't find a new guide on it) like.

I tried the following commands:
jessica@jessica-desktop:~$ sudo hcitool scanScanning ...
00:16:75:15:14:81 Hill Billy
jessica@jessica-desktop:~$ sudo hidd --connect 00:16:75:15:14:81
Can't get device information: Success
jessica@jessica-desktop:~$

I guess they work but how come my device is still not seen in the Bluetooth applet? How can I send files? Why can't I connect to the computer using my phone? I don't want to depend on windows for this too.

Ubuntu Networking :: How To Console Into Cell Phone

Oct 28, 2010

if anyone knows of a way to be able to console in to a cell phone? I'm guessing it may be different from one cell phone to the next, but I want to console into my phone, and ftp, or tftp a copy of the OS onto my computer, and try to maybe use gedit or nano to look at the code, and play around with it. I'd like to see where the e911 code is, and create some kind of script that would alert me whenever that gps feature that is available to the cellular providers and the government.

since Americans are required to have a cell phone that is GPS capable, I would like to know if that ever gets activated. Additionally, I would also like to write scripts that would alert me if my microphone is activated.Maybe this is only possible on Droid phones since they are Unix based? Either way, you can readily buy usb cables to connect your phone to your pc to transfer pics, videos, etc. Maybe there is a way to run nmap on that cable connection to find a way to hack in?

Software :: Cell Phone Synchronization On Linux?

Dec 31, 2010

My phone is dead or dying so now is a good time to look for a FOSS replacement for Nokia PC Suite and Outlook -- the only reason I run Windows.

Is there any solution (or combination of solutions) that supports synchronising personal information manager (PIM) data -- most importantly names and phone numbers, calendar/schedule and notes -- with any model of cell phone?

EDIT:

SyncEvolution looks promising and there are reports of it working at least adequately with several phones including the interesting for Linux people Nokia N900 but OS-wise it only claims compatibility with ubuntus and debian 4.0, not beloved Slackware; maybe that's more because of what people have tried than because it doesn't work. As the name suggests it works only with Evolution, perhaps not the first choice of email client and PIM.

Ubuntu Networking :: Using NetworkManager For BT - Cell Phone Tethering?

Mar 17, 2010

What I currently do is run this script -

Code:
rfcomm release 0
CHANNEL = `sdptool search --bdaddr=00:21:FE:A5:C9:4A dun | grep Channel | cut -c14`
rfcomm bind 0 00:21:FE:A5:C9:4A ${CHANNEL}
wvdial e71bt
And my /etc/wvdial.conf is configured for AT&T connection here in the US.

Question is, is there anyway I can integrate it with NetworkManager, instead of having to run this script?

There's a "Broadband" option on NetworkManager, but I am not able to get it to recognize my cell phone as a modem. The bluetooth applet only allows for file transfer

Ubuntu :: Computer To Cell Phone Calls Via Bluetooth On Internet

Dec 8, 2010

I have been looking for a piece of software that can do the following; however, I am unsure what category of technology it would fall under. In addition, I am not sure if I am describing it correctly. I am looking for a piece of software that will allow a Bluetooth connection between my desktop, and cell phone. I then can place a Internet based call (SIP software, Skype, Google Talk) via the cell phone, which has been connected to the desktop system by Bluetooth.

I want to be able to receive and send calls via the cellphone, but use Internet for my calls. What got me thinking about this is a house phone I have by Panasonic, which has the capability to pair your cell phone via Bluetooth to the main base-station. This allows the option to answer calls to my house number, via my cell phone.

Ubuntu Networking :: Wireless Printing Through Cell Phone Hot-spot?

I access the Internet exclusively through my Verizon-branded HTC Incredible cell phone using my Dell Latitude D800 notebook. I have a Samsung 2152-w wireless laser printer that works well through USB and works well through a wireless router.

My question is: since I use my cell as a wireless hot-spot for my notebook, is there any way to use the wireless capability of my printer? I don't know of any way to configure this, and Google hasn't been of help yet. If possible, I would like to avoid using the wireless router; I used it when I had a wired network for my old desktop.
