Ubuntu Networking :: Using NetworkManager For BT - Cell Phone Tethering?
Mar 17, 2010
What I currently do is run this script -
Code:
rfcomm release 0
CHANNEL = `sdptool search --bdaddr=00:21:FE:A5:C9:4A dun | grep Channel | cut -c14`
rfcomm bind 0 00:21:FE:A5:C9:4A ${CHANNEL}
wvdial e71bt
And my /etc/wvdial.conf is configured for AT&T connection here in the US.
Question is, is there anyway I can integrate it with NetworkManager, instead of having to run this script?
There's a "Broadband" option on NetworkManager, but I am not able to get it to recognize my cell phone as a modem. The bluetooth applet only allows for file transfer
It's installed as a mobile broadband connection. Only works if my phone is plugged in during boot, otherwise plugging in my phone does nothing. For example, I booted my netbook earlier today but my phone wasn't plugged in. Tethering did not work, it just acts as if it isn't present. I rebooted (with my phone still attached) and now tethering magically works.
if anyone knows of a way to be able to console in to a cell phone? I'm guessing it may be different from one cell phone to the next, but I want to console into my phone, and ftp, or tftp a copy of the OS onto my computer, and try to maybe use gedit or nano to look at the code, and play around with it. I'd like to see where the e911 code is, and create some kind of script that would alert me whenever that gps feature that is available to the cellular providers and the government.
since Americans are required to have a cell phone that is GPS capable, I would like to know if that ever gets activated. Additionally, I would also like to write scripts that would alert me if my microphone is activated.Maybe this is only possible on Droid phones since they are Unix based? Either way, you can readily buy usb cables to connect your phone to your pc to transfer pics, videos, etc. Maybe there is a way to run nmap on that cable connection to find a way to hack in?
I have a samsung messager touch R631 with 3G capability and I am trying to connect my laptop to the internet through it via bluetooth. Everything worked when I had the MAC OSx on my laptop, and after I switched to ubuntu 10.04LTS (32 bit) I cannot get it to work again. I did some searching and checked a few things out, but Everything I've tried with the BlueZ isn't working. It shows I'm connected, but it just doesn't work...is there any way to get it to work or another program or something I need? these are the 2 pages I refferenced...[url] [url]
I want connect to Internet via my phone ( Motorola A1200 ) I can connect currectly in micro$oft windowns 7 but I can not connect in my linux via wvdial.
I access the Internet exclusively through my Verizon-branded HTC Incredible cell phone using my Dell Latitude D800 notebook. I have a Samsung 2152-w wireless laser printer that works well through USB and works well through a wireless router.
My question is: since I use my cell as a wireless hot-spot for my notebook, is there any way to use the wireless capability of my printer? I don't know of any way to configure this, and Google hasn't been of help yet. If possible, I would like to avoid using the wireless router; I used it when I had a wired network for my old desktop.
if anyone here could recommend a cellphone. My main requirement is that it should tether as a 3.5g modem via USB to a PC running Fedora 13. I have previously used a Nokia to good effect, but their standpoint on privacy is making me look for a different brand.
im trying to be able to tether my android cell phone to my fedora 13 to use as a router/modem i have gotten it to work on a friends Ubuntu OS i used the app easy-tether but it will work not on fedora
I am having trouble getting NetworkManager to detect my Huawei-Vodafone dongle and I can't figure out why. I went and checked on NetworkManagers website and I should be good to gobut no such luck. look at the following:
manpep@manpep-desktop ~ $ manpep@manpep-desktop ~ $ dmesg | grep -e "modem" -e "tty" [ 0.000000] console [tty0] enabled [ 47.951906] USB Serial support registered for GSM modem (1-port) [ 47.951958] option 3-2:1.0: GSM modem (1-port) converter detected [ 47.952990] usb 3-2: GSM modem (1-port) converter now attached to ttyUSB0
[Code]....
Although "lsusb" see it (as usually) as Huawei model E620, in fact it's a much more recent one. It's the K3520, from last year.
i just tried using my Nokia 2700 classic's internet on my Lynx.it got connected to the network when i ticked the option access internet via the phone in bluetooth setup. But i am unable to surf the net...I am still connected to my college's wifi network which uses a http proxy.I tried using no proxy in mozilla when i was connected to both the networks;but then also nothhing was working;whereas my cell showed the sign of GPRS..
I am running ubuntu 10.10 and supplying my internet connection with EasyTether on my Motorola Droid 2. I've got my laptop internet working great, but I've tried to follow a couple connection sharing guides and they don't seem to work with my PS3. So the setup is that EasyTether provides the internet connection and an ethernet cable connects the laptop and ps3. I have even tried using FireStarter, but it says eth0 (the connection between laptop and ps3) is not ready.
So here's the question: What should I do to allow my ps3 to access the internet? I've tried manual and automatic settings on my ps3 and neither worked. I believe the problem is with my laptop's settings.
Here's what happens when I do a connection test on my PS3 (automatic config)
Obatain IP Address - Failed
And when I do it manually
Obtain IP Address - Succeeded Internet Connection - Failed
I've just got a nice HTC Desire (ie almost the same model as the Nexus One), and it can work as a modem for accessing the internet. After googling this, I've found out that on debian it works straight without adding any package, just as the pjone is connected. This is not the case on slackware 13... Has anyone got this to work already?
I am trying to connect my cell phone through a Bluetooth dongle in Ubuntu 8.10 but when I try setting up a new device my cell phone is not seen. I tried reading some guides, I installed everything needed but still it doesn't work, some files are even missing (probably because they guides are for older versions of Ubuntu but i can't find a new guide on it) like.
I tried the following commands: jessica@jessica-desktop:~$ sudo hcitool scanScanning ... 00:16:75:15:14:81 Hill Billy jessica@jessica-desktop:~$ sudo hidd --connect 00:16:75:15:14:81 Can't get device information: Success jessica@jessica-desktop:~$
I guess they work but how come my device is still not seen in the Bluetooth applet? How can I send files? Why can't I connect to the computer using my phone? I don't want to depend on windows for this too.
Most cellphones can play music. How does one sync Ubuntu One w. the music player in the cellphone. Alternatively how to download music from Ubuntu One to a cellphone? Access to the web/internet is assumed in this case.
I have a large collection of cell phone videos comprised of ".mov" and ".avi" file formats and I would like to stitch them all together to form a single video. I will then export them to a DVD format but the main goal for now is to get them stitched together. My tools are:(1) Kino(2) Cinelerra(3) AvidemuxMy skills are:(1) Pretty good(2) Not so good(3) None existentDoes anyone have some good suggestions on how to accomplish this?
This is the first time I have used any forum. Please forgive me if I fail to do this the right way.
My question is... can I download pictures from my Samsung cell phone to my pc under Ubuntu since Samsung doesn't support drivers for their phone any longer
My phone is dead or dying so now is a good time to look for a FOSS replacement for Nokia PC Suite and Outlook -- the only reason I run Windows.
Is there any solution (or combination of solutions) that supports synchronising personal information manager (PIM) data -- most importantly names and phone numbers, calendar/schedule and notes -- with any model of cell phone?
EDIT:
SyncEvolution looks promising and there are reports of it working at least adequately with several phones including the interesting for Linux people Nokia N900 but OS-wise it only claims compatibility with ubuntus and debian 4.0, not beloved Slackware; maybe that's more because of what people have tried than because it doesn't work. As the name suggests it works only with Evolution, perhaps not the first choice of email client and PIM.
I'm using my phone with TrekBuddy to contribute to Open Street Map and find it a bit awkward to bluetooth or removing the memory card from the phone to use USB directly. So I've been struggling some time to solve this issue, without any luck.Contents from my TrekBuddy directory on the memorycard on phone:Quote:

I was wandering if it is possible to somehow send sound from Amarok14 to cell phone via bluetooth, so I could hear the sound on phone speakers/headphones? If it is possible, how can I do that?
I am unable to connect to the internet connection of my cell phone avaialble via bluetooth. The NM applet just tries for a while and then disconnects. It works fine in windows with NOKiA pc suite. What do i do?
I have been looking for a piece of software that can do the following; however, I am unsure what category of technology it would fall under. In addition, I am not sure if I am describing it correctly. I am looking for a piece of software that will allow a Bluetooth connection between my desktop, and cell phone. I then can place a Internet based call (SIP software, Skype, Google Talk) via the cell phone, which has been connected to the desktop system by Bluetooth.
I want to be able to receive and send calls via the cellphone, but use Internet for my calls. What got me thinking about this is a house phone I have by Panasonic, which has the capability to pair your cell phone via Bluetooth to the main base-station. This allows the option to answer calls to my house number, via my cell phone.
I'm trying to connect to the Internet via my Vodafone phone in tethering mode, either directly or via wifi using a Netgear goggle but neither is working.
I use fedora12-Gnome as my major desktop OS. Every basic need was fulfilled , until I tried Fedora12 KDE and now Fedora13 KDE. The problem is with Bluetooth connectivity to my cell phone device. It connects to the cell phone and set trusted but I can't seem to see any option of "Browse files on Device". Does that mean in KDE I actually can not browse my Bluetooth connected devices?
i have three type of linux distributions installed on vmware- centos 5.5 , rhel5, fedora14.i have installed centos 5.5 on a seprate hard disk.i want to use internet on linux using my nokia 2630 cell phone.how to connect my phone through bluetooth to use internet?
Is there an application or script file that I can use to send a message to my cel phone every day at the same time with cron? I have medications I need to take and sometime do not realize I've missed the timing until 4-5 hours later.
It doesn't show it on the device-notifier, or fdisk, and not sure if this will be any use to you. In windows it appears immediately as a MSD, doesn't show as a modem or anything first.
