OpenSUSE Wireless :: Unable To Build Rt73.ko After Upgrade To 11.2?

Jan 25, 2009

On my opensuse 11.1 system. I used my tp-link tl-wn321g usb wireless adapter to access the internet. It runs on rt2501 chipset and I used the serial monkey rt73 driver from here.

[URL]

What I did was I installed the kernel-headers, kernel source, gcc and make. And then I cd to the module directory and did

Code:
make
make install
modprobe rt73

[Code].....

I installed "ralink-firmware-1.1-1.5.noarch.rpm" from Software.openSUSE.org. I tried "make" again, but still the same error return.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Unable Build Rt73.ko After Upgrade To 11.2

And then I configured the network with yast.

That was until I upgraded to 11.2 using the guide here.

Code: [URL]

The upgrade went well, but I could no longer use my wireless adapter. I tried installing the driver again but when I tried to run "make", it says

Code:
make: *** /lib/modules/2.6.31.8-0.1-pae/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
rt73.ko failed to build!
make: *** [module] Error 1

I've checked that kernel-headers, kernel-source, gcc and make are all installed.

I installed "ralink-firmware-1.1-1.5.noarch.rpm" from Software.openSUSE.org. I tried "make" again, but still the same error return.

It connects as "low level connection" , the indicator of kvpnc remains red, but then kvpnc would not pass the network traffic through umts-mon (or better vice versa, umtsmon doesn't). In principle I would like to pass both interfaces (wireless, umts) through vpn.

Ubuntu Networking :: Unable To Use Wireless After 8.10 To 10.04 Upgrade

Nov 28, 2010

I have an out-of-the-box Belkin G wireless router. I also have a Linksys USB adapter on a particular box. When I run the Ubuntu 8.10 live CD on that box I can see the router's SSID, I supply the password, and all is fine. I think that rules out any problems with the router or the ISP.

When I run the Ubuntu 10.04 on that same box I can still see the SSID but when I try to connect to it the DHCP fails. Checking the system logs I see the DHCPDISCOVER entries but no corresponding DHCPOFFER responses. So this seems on the surface to be a DHCP problem. To get around this I tried to edit the connection to use manually supplied settings. On the 8.10 system I supplied:

Code:

IP=192.168.2.200,
Netmask=255.255.255.0
Gateway=192.168.2.1
DNS=192.168.2.1

and again all worked just fine. But when I supply the same values to the 10.04 system it does not work. Even attempts to ping the router (192.168.2.1) fail. So if this fails then perhaps the problem is more fundamental than DHCP? I have tried searching the net for quite a while and found a number of similar problems, but clear solutions seem to be lacking (or I haven't come across them). One common suggestion is to blacklist the ipv6 module. I tried that and it seemed to have no effect. Since this worked so well in 8.10 and doesn't work in 10.04.

OpenSUSE :: Find All The Build-deps Or What They Are For That Matter To Build Boxee

Feb 20, 2010

I'm in love with my Opensuse 11.2. Love my KDE 4.4. The only thing I miss from my Ubuntu installation, is the ability to use Boxee. I would be more than willing to compile Boxee from source. I only have 2 problems with that:

1) I don't know where I can find all the build-deps or what they are for that matter to build Boxee.

2) I'm running on a Netbook. Yes, my measly Intel Atom is no fun for compiling and building.

What are my options/what can I do to get Boxee up and running on 11.2? I've tried searching on build service for an RPM, but I think due to legal restrictions, Boxee can't be on there.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Slow Wireless After Upgrade To 11.4?

Mar 20, 2011

I have an Acer Aspire 5920G laptop, which uses Intel PRO/Wireless 3945ABG wireless card. I upgraded from 11.3 to 11.4 using live upgrade and after the upgrade wireless internet became really slow. Now I'm back to 11.3. I experienced the same problem with speed when I was choosing Linux distro - first I tried Fedora and Ubuntu and both had the same problem, but when I tried openSUSE 11.3 it worked fine. With 11.4 Network Manager showed that signal is at 100% and it connected to router with normal speed, but when I tried downloading a file I got 30kB/s max, while I used to get 1,1 MB/s with windows and 11.3. I also noticed that right after boot I got decent speed, but it only lasted for less than a couple of minutes.

Since 11.4 should have better or at least the same driver as 11.3, problem is probably with configuration, but I am using NetworkManager, so I have no idea what could be wrong.

Slackware :: Compiling A RT73 Module In Slack 64 13.1?

Sep 27, 2010

Actually, I have posted this problem here but I dont know if is best to ask it here. The problem is that I have upgraded my OS to Slackware 13.1 64 bits, and now, I cant compile the module RT73 from serialmonkey

There are a lot of similar tutorials explaining the steps for a succesfully installation. I had followed any of them before, and I had no problem never.

But now, I get this error:

Code:
make[1]:Entering directory "/usr/src/linux-2.6.33.4"
Building modules, stage 2
MODPOST 0 modules
make [1]: Leaving directory "/usr/src/linux-2.6.33.4"
rt73.ko failed to build!
make:*** [module] Error 1
On the other hand, in the serialmonkey page they said that the driver was included into the kernel yet, but I dont know how can I now if I have the driver installed. The true is that my usb doesnt work.

Its is a USB D-Link System AirPlus G DWL-G122 Wireless Adapter (rec.C1) [Ralink RT73]

Fedora Networking :: Edimax RT73 USB Recognized But Not Working?

Feb 17, 2009

I have just installed Fedora 10 on a Dell Inspiron 530. I was delighted to see on the very first boot into the system that my Edimax RT73 USB stick was recognised by the system as it was offering a selection of wireless networks to connect to. But oddly, my own network wasn't listed there. I created a new network and entered the network id manually. Once it was in the list, I checked the radio button and saw a message that I am connected to my network. But after a few seconds the network icon disappeared.

I rebooted the system and again went through the same process with the icon disappearing.

I have an Edimax wireless access point with DHCP enabled. The security is WPA2 Personal with AES.

Vista is also dual booting on the same machine and working fine.

OpenSUSE :: Unable To Upgrade Applications In 11.4

Apr 4, 2011

I was anxious to update my Opensuse to 11.4 but was worried about my slow internet connection. However an user of this forum kindly sent me a DVD by mail wich enabled me to do what I wanted. I just finished making a fresh install of Opensuse 11.4. It's wonderful. Almost all applications have improved a lot. But, unhappily some few have acquired new problems now, specially some that are in repos but not in the DVD. Let me number those I have found:

1 - In all versions of Gnome ctrl+alt+arrow (left or right) was the shorcut to switch between workspaces. Now it doesn't work. When I go to keyboard shortcuts in Gnome all options in the section of desktop enviroment are written "unknown action". There is no place to create shortcuts for actions related to the desktop as switching between workspaces. (I also want to use the opportunity to ask how can I create a shortcut to switch between workspaces in KDE too.)

2 - I used Qsynth/Fluidsynth as the default output synth for Rosegarden in Opensuse 11.3. In all versions Fluidsynth recognized bank variations immediatily and automatically as I changed them in Rosegarden. Now I installed the latest versions from Opensuse download site and it doesn't recognize bank variations anymore. It only recognize presets of the first bank of my soundfont. Strangely, in Fluidsynth-dsii I can load presets of any bank. But Qsynth/Fluidsynth doesn't recognize them.

3 - Nvidia proprietary drviers always used to cause some minor problems with compiz. But now they are worst than ever! When I launch applications most of the times windows come maximized but on the screen they are not really maximized at all. I have to click on the window title to bring it to the right size. If I don't do it letters inside that window don't appear correctly. Sometimes I click in close button in a window and it only works after the 2nd or 3rd click. And there are another some minor flaws or slowdowns.

4 - In a terminal I typed su. As superuser I typed nautilus. It didn't launch and gave me back the following message:

GLib-GIO:ERROR:gdbusconnection.c:2279:initable_init: assertion failed: (connection->initialization_error == NULL)

I just can launch nautilus if I login as root.If anyone have tried to connect Opensuse 11.4 to internet using DSL and it complained about one or more missing files and you didn't find those files in neither in DVD nor in 11.4 repos, it really has happenned (at until last week if anyone didn't correct it yet). The workaround is to download them from 11.3 repos and install them manually using Yast. It really works!

OpenSUSE Install :: Unable To Use Keyboard After Upgrade To 11.4?

Mar 16, 2011

A few days ago I upgraded my workstation from OpenSuse 11.2 to 11.4 and found that when I got to an X login screen I could not type anything though the mouse worked. If I went straight to a terminal, such as by booting to runlevel 3 the keyboard worked fine so I figured the problem was related to Xorg. I did some research on the web and tried various fixes, such as reloading the proprietary Nvidia drivers, trying the nouveau drivers, booting with the nomodeset option, as well as trying most of the suggestions in this excellent article: SDB:Configuring graphics cards - openSUSE. No of these solutions remedied the problem.

Eventually I looked closer into the new (at least compared to 11.2) configuration for xorg. If I used the xorg.conf.install file or used an earlier Nvidia-specific xorg.conf file the problem continued. After taking a closer look at /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/90-keytable.conf file I noticed all of the values for the options were blank, just "". I set XkbLayout to "us", started X and I had a functioning keyboard!

OpenSUSE Install :: 11.2 Recent Upgrade Unable To Input At Login

Jan 9, 2010

I just recently updated to openSUSE 11.2, but after restarting my computer, I was unable to do anything with the keyboard(type my password, CAPS LOCK, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace) or move the pointer with my wireless mouse. After restarting the computer again, I turned on the touchpad of my laptop and was able to move the pointer using the built-in touchpad. After yet a 3rd restart, I could not move my pointer using any method.

After a 4th restart, I chose to enter the failsafe mode, where I could attempt to find the problem from the command line. I manually started KDM as root by typing in "kdm", but nothing happened, which means that the screen did not switch into graphical mode, but the terminal only accepted the command. Then, I manually started X as root by typing in "X", and X started. I only saw a black screen, but I could not kill X by the traditional "Ctrl+Alt+Backspace" and was forced to shutdown my computer via the power button.

I do want to note that on every boot of my machine, "WARNING" messages have begun appearing, but they went so fast that I could not read them. If there is any way to read them, I would greatly appreciate knowing. Also when updating my machine, I remember ignoring some dependencies for kernel-extra, kdm-branding, sox, and gcc44-fortran; but I did not believe that ignoring these dependencies could cause a broken system so I proceeded with the upgrade.

OpenSUSE Wireless :: Unable To Set Up Ad-hoc Network

Oct 5, 2010

I'm using OpenSUSE 11.3 64-bit on a Lenovo G560. I'm able to establish both wired and unwired connections without problems. Now I'm in a situation where I'd like to share my laptop's internet connection with other devices. My thought was to establish an ad-hoc network that another computer could connect to wirelessly in order to get into the Internet, because I've only got one ethernet jack.

First thought was to use Network Manager, since that manages all my connections. A left click on the Network Manager icon brings up a menu in which "Wireless 802.11, Create network connection..." is an option. If I click on that I see a list of all the networks available in the area, as well as all the networks I've set up in the past. Below that are two options: "New Ad-Hoc Network" and "Connect To Other Network With Wireless 802.11..."

"New Ad-Hoc Network" seems like the right option, but when I double click on it the window closes and nothing happens. No error message, nothing. Network Manager continues to run and my connection is unchanged. If I just left click on it and then click "Connect" at the bottom of the window, the same thing happens.
