I have Linpus runnig on my Aspire One. I would like to setup an icon on the menu to start a windows program using wine. I can start it manually and it works fine. I want to be able to access it directly from the desktop.
I'm currently trying to get a windows compiled program to work through Wine to run on Linux and MacOSX.
When I run the program through wine, it prompts me to install Gecko which I do. Later on in the program, it attempts to use MSHTML to render HTML but I get these error messages on my console instead.
err:mshtml:init_xpcom NS_InitXPCOM2 failed: 80004005 err:mshtml:HTMLDocument_Create Failed to init Gecko, returning CLASS_E_CLASSNOTAVAILABLE fixme:ole:CoCreateInstance no instance created for interface {00000000-0000-0000-c000-000000000046} of class {25336920-03f9-11cf-8fd0-00aa00686f13}, hres is 0x80040111
I'm using Wine 1.1.34 and a similar bug was supposedly fixed in 1.1.33 [URL]
I know the subject title makes it seem like this should be something on the Slackware forums but I think it can be generalized to other 64-bit Linux operating systems which is why I ask here. I'm running Slackware 13.37 64-bit and was wondering if I use Wine to run a Windows program (with multilib files), would it still run as if it had been used on a 64-bit computer?
In practice I have a script that call a java program that call a linux system command. The script if I run it, from a shell functions well,so it is not a java problem. The problem come out when i put this script in a crontab schedulation. The result in this case is that java do not execute the system command. I think it depends on crontab
I installed Wine no problem. Then I downloaded a Windows Chess program(ECTool) to the desktop. I right clicked on the ECTool icon and checked run with Wine. The program came up just fine and I could make moves on the chessboard, but no information was saved. I got a blank screen under games in progress. Anyone use this program or have any ideas what to do next? ECTool is listed as a program that works with Wine.
I am trying to install a program named "Ntrip" with wine, running Linux Mint 10 64bit (based on Ubuntu 10.04) I installed the software without problems, when I try to start it I get the following error:
Code:
fixme:actctx:parse_manifest_buffer root element is L"asmv1:assembly", not <assembly> wine: Install the Windows version of Mono to run .NET executables
As far as I know, mono is by default on every Ubuntu 10.04 installation, however as per the error message, I installed the Windows version of Mono via Wine successfully. Trying to start the program again, still coming up with above error.
I'm trying to setup Baldur's Gate in Wine and it's giving me this error: "There is no Windows program configured to run that type of file". I've enabled the file to be allowed to run as an executable, and the program is completely uncorrupted - I just installed it on another computer with Windows.
I am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.
install the windows live? I can't get the video call working on amsn My fedora is 14 on netbook aceraspire one PS: I installed the wine already, when i load the windows live 2011 doesn't show the box to check for what i want to install, so i can't pass from that.
I installed a game (Shredder 11) using Wine on my Ubuntu system. The installation seemed to go well, including the directx part, but when I want to run the game, I can't find it anywhere. It's not in Applications -> Wine, it's not on Wine's C: drive, and I even tried a search "find / -name shredder", which came up empty. I tried to install it again, but according to the installation program it is already installed! (It asked me if I wanted to modify, repair, etc..).
I delete XP totaly and now I use only Linux. In windows I was using free diction and I want to make it to run from kickoff menu(I am with KDE). The problem is that in Konsole

How can I uninstall / purge wine and any wine installed windows programs?I've tried deleting .wine (hidden folder)but in /usr/bin/ there are a number of wine related files. And wine sub menu still appears in Applications menu
I don't know if it's just my system, but after applying the latest Wine update, the mouse cursor in Wine windows is now purple/magenta/pink, whatever. Not a big problem, just annoying. I've looked through the various config files in ~home and /usr/share/wine, and can't find any parameter that might even remotely address this.
A friend of mine is setting up infrastructure for a new call centre and they are using Ubuntu Linux on staff desktops. They need a chat program that will only work on the local network, and they want to allow staff to only access a browser, the chat client and spreadsheet software.
(a) What chat program can they use, and
(b) How can one disactivate most of the programs running on the desktop? Is uninstalling via synaptic/ Ubuntu Software Centre overkill?
i wanted to capture the stdout and stdin of a child process within a parent so that any output of child is sent to the parent and any input taken from the parent. code is simple enough and i have followed all code guidlines on the internet (some guidlines do differ also) my select call either hangs if i do not give a tmeout and with a timeout it returns 0 descriptors to be written to or read from:
below is the simple code for parent:
int main(void) { int outfd[2]; int infd[2];
[code].....
why select hangs without a timeout ... why can it not detect that the pipe is write ready i.e parent can write to it ... if it does not detect tha read pipe as having data...
I will buy a new computer and install Kubuntu on it.The only kind of software that I would run on Windows are PC games. Can I play most of Windows games without problems with Wine on Linux? If Wine cannot run games, how much of disk partition is recommended to install Windows and PC games? Can Windows read ext4 partitions?
There's a deadware Windows application thatuse daily because there's simply no alternative, and I read that it runs OK on Linux through the Wine layer.I was wondering if someone owns one of those ultra mobile PC's with a QWERTY keyboard like the PsiXpda or Sharp NetWalker PC-Z1, or even eBook readers like the Amazon Kindle, and could tell me if they run Wine with good-enough performance?
I am running UNR Ubuntu 10.10 on a netbook I want to run MS Publisher 2003 on it. Which WINE best emulates Windows XP SP3? Once I have WINE, do I need to worry about Windows issues like Defragging and registry errors and need an anti-virus?
I'm doing so because my doubt is with regards to running a windows app in linux. I am a freelance writer and use article spinning software like "TheBestSpinner" occasionally. Usually I log into windows XP (I have a dual boot) for this. I am however trying to see if it is possible for me to run this software in linux using wine. I am still relatively a newbie in linux as I have been using Mint 10 for only 6 months. I'm am familiar with the command line but generally use the GUI mostly. I installed the software but when I tried to run the .exe file I got an error that said that I had to install mono for windows. I did that too and installed it inside wine. I am now getting an error that I am unable to resolve by myself because google is not helping me. I am posting the output of what I get when I try running it below.
fixme:system:SetProcessDPIAware stub! fixme:dwmapiwmIsCompositionEnabled 0x33bc74 ** (TheBestSpinner.exe:27): WARNING **: mono_class_from_mono_type: implement me 0xb6 ** ERROR:class.c:5162:mono_class_from_mono_type: code should not be reached
I am having a problem trying to install KindleForPc with wine in Fedora 12. Wine installs and runs but is missing a class needed by Kindle. Notepad, regedit, etc run but there is a problem when I run the Kindle Installer.Attempting to install Kindle I run
Code: wine KindleForPc-installer.exe it runs to completion two windows appears they have a windows look, as it intiializes. Then it returns to the command line prompt. Shortly after it returns to the command line I get a series of error messages. Perhaps the installer finishes and then tries to start Kindle. I have typed their essence below:
Code: fixme:system:SetProcessDPIAware stub! class {6e4feb12-510a-4d40-9304-1da10ae9147c} not registered CLSCTX_REMOTE_SERVER not suppported no class server could be created for context 0x17
Kindle does not show up in the configuration utility and when I try to run it from the command line it complains that some classes are not registered. My understanding is that yum has a list of the component packages required by wine, and the person who prepared the list thought it had loaded all that was needed for wine, but it did not include the package that has the classes that I need. On the web there are a number of postings that tell how well Kindle works under Linux, and none of them deals with doing anything more than installing wine. I assume that in those cases the install procedure loaded the classes I need. My hope is that someone with more knowledge than I can give me a pointer on how to proceed.
is it possible to install software from within a *nix system on a windows box, by letting WINE (is not an emulator) write to the windows own registry and use that software under WINE aswell as windows (xp).edit: im specifically talking about dualboot systems, where the windows partition is mounted in linux and accessable to wine. i already thought about installation in windows and after switching to linux just to install over the filesresulting in two different registries, would that even worK?
I want to add the bthprops.cpl dll (The bluetooth control panel applet) to my wine install under Ubuntu 10.04 since it is required for Dolphin Emulator. [URL]
I copied the file from my windows install into the System32 folder in .wine and into the folder where the application I am trying to run is, but wine still fails to load it. Is there anything else I need to do to make the dll accessible for wine programs?
I realize that this question is extremely vague, but I am wondering if (as a general rule) it is against the terms of standard EULAs to install on WINE. For example, I have a licensed copy of Adobe CS5 that is currently installed on Win7 that if I could legally and functionally run on Ubuntu.
