Software :: Best Chat Program For Linux Desktops In Call Centre?
Dec 2, 2010
A friend of mine is setting up infrastructure for a new call centre and they are using Ubuntu Linux on staff desktops. They need a chat program that will only work on the local network, and they want to allow staff to only access a browser, the chat client and spreadsheet software.
(a) What chat program can they use, and
(b) How can one disactivate most of the programs running on the desktop? Is uninstalling via synaptic/ Ubuntu Software Centre overkill?
In practice I have a script that call a java program that call a linux system command. The script if I run it, from a shell functions well,so it is not a java problem. The problem come out when i put this script in a crontab schedulation. The result in this case is that java do not execute the system command. I think it depends on crontab
whenever me, or someone I'm calling accept a call, the window that shows sound inputs and is for call closes. Then I can see a message in chat window: The call has been terminated.
I'm using Ubuntu 11.04 x32 Today I started Skype and I couldn't hear the Skype logging sound. Nevertheles I could see the contacts online. When I tried to write messages in the chat they couldn't receive them. When I tried to call nothing worked. After that it seemed that Skype was completely blocked. I clicked with the right button on the green icon of Skype and chose "quit" but it wouldn't close. 1 I logged off from Ubuntu and on again. I opened Skype. I made right click in the green icon and chose "Options"
2 I went to the "Sound Devices" menu in the left part of the window
3 I removed the tick for "Allow Skype to automatically adjust my mixer levels"
4 I closed Skype and opened it again and the sound problem was gone.
I am using skype in fedora 9. I am searching how can I delete skype call/chat history. I have searched some .dbb files in /home/<username>/.Skype/<skyID> directory like chatmsg2048.dbb. Can I safely remove these files in order to delete my chat history. Also, I cannot view these .dbb files in gedit. If I can read these files, I can better decide which history I need to delete.
In Ubuntu 10.04 running Gnome I can right click on any window and it gives me an option to show that window on all desktops, so even if I switch to a different virtual desktop, that window will always show.Is there a command in terminal that can do this?
Am new to this community and this is my first post. am doing a project where i have to develop a wireless ad hoc routing protocol. I have just begun working on the project. I did not know where to start, so started off with a simple chat program using TCP and thought of making the modifications to it later on. But I do have a prob even i running that!
Am not getting the messages in a synchronized manner. The prog is running fine, but the messages that i type from the server are not reaching the client at all, and at times some garbage values are getting printed(When the strcmp()fn returns 1, "connection terminated" gets printed timely in both the sides. this is the oly situation where i do not get garbage values.) am using VC++ 6.0 here.I have been breaking my head for the past 3-4 days for this simple issue. any response to this would be of great help.
Seemingly simple question, which yields slightly undesired results. Execute putty to start a script on a remote linux server which requires user input The remote script does a read -p "Please enter name" NAME I can use plink to execute a script over SSH, the following attempts and problems are shown below :- Note the -load ns is to load a session that doesnt exist, ie ensure no defaults are used
1) plink.exe -load ns <ip_addr> -l <user> -pw <password> <script path/name> Problem) Doesn't allow/show user input, ie its non-interactive.
2) Add -t to allocate a pty :- plink.exe -t -load nc <ip_addr> -l <user> -pw <password> <script path/name> Problem) Ok, so now the user input can be seen, but I get Ctrl+H (^H) when backspace is pressed, ok if the user doesnt make a mistake!
3) Use putty instead with a saved session putty.exe -load "SavedSession" Problem) (a) Get a new window opened, not a biggy, but not as nice. (b) saved session cannot be easily moved. (c) Get password prompt, cannot provide password like with plink, I know I know, use keys, but this is a closed, private network, and its easier not to bother with keys!
So ideally, I would like the SSH to execute in-line, that is from within the batch file/command line shell I am in, not prompt for username/password, run the linux script and allow prompts and delete/backspace to work.
I have it installed on a HP mini 1010NR It worked great once I got help to figure out how to make my wifi work. Now I am trying to find the best program to use to chat and view webcams on yahoo I used gyache at first but got sick of it gliching and booting me telling me people were online when they were not. So I tried Kopete and like it but cant get the webcam to work every thing works just fine I cant send invites and cant receive images. At first I was getting an error message telling me to go to a nonexistent site for help. Now it just tells me No "webcam image received" and just strait up does not send invites. I am trying to get this to work or be directed to a better program that meets my needs and how to set it up.
Can anyone tell me of a simple chat program that I can install on both Windows and Linux? I need it more for the local intranet than the internet. I wish to chat with window users in my network? Also please forgive me if this is the wrong forum for this question.
I am trying to write a chat program with sockets as part of my project. I made a socket server, using fork ,I tried to connect it with different clients. Each client will send messages to others through server. So server has a shared memory storing every clients username and client id. But the problem facing is first client is able to sent messages to every other client formed after that. But second client onwards it is not able to sent message to previously connected ones. Server is not able to write on those client id's.
I have Linpus runnig on my Aspire One. I would like to setup an icon on the menu to start a windows program using wine. I can start it manually and it works fine. I want to be able to access it directly from the desktop.
i wanted to capture the stdout and stdin of a child process within a parent so that any output of child is sent to the parent and any input taken from the parent. code is simple enough and i have followed all code guidlines on the internet (some guidlines do differ also) my select call either hangs if i do not give a tmeout and with a timeout it returns 0 descriptors to be written to or read from:
below is the simple code for parent:
int main(void) { int outfd[2]; int infd[2];
[code].....
why select hangs without a timeout ... why can it not detect that the pipe is write ready i.e parent can write to it ... if it does not detect tha read pipe as having data...
Ladies and Gents, I am new on this forum. I have installed Ubuntu on my box and have been using it for over 2 weeks now. I have been trying to setup G-mail chat or Facebook chat and it just keeps on saying "connecting - Disconnecting" without anything happening.
Is anyone aware of a program which will open .mus music notation files or convert them to .xml files? I have several files from FINALE which I would like to open in Linux, but Linux distros will not allow FINALE to run. .xml files will open in MuseScore.
i'm trying to recover a document (10 page essay on singapore's political economy) it was written with open office but saved as a .doc. I was working on it on my Acer Aspire One also listening to music using MediaMaster 4.43. Media Master froze so i saved my .doc and rebooted my machine... now my document won't open
if anyone of you have shifted using Paid Red Hat Linux with CentOS, and what are your experiences of moving from Paid Linux to Unpaid Linux CenOS. When do you suggest a person use Paid Linux and when to use Unpaid Linux?
I have learnt that the network locked huawei modems may be unlocked to use any sim card bu getting a special unlock code and it should ask for it when a "foreign" SIM card is inserted. This procedure works well in Windows, but in Linux where I use wvdial, I dont get prompted for this unlock code. Does anyone know how to insert the unlock code in Linux using any Linux tool (GAMMU/GNOKII/Minicom etc)?
I've tried to install Fedora 11, both 32 and 64 on my main machine. It could not install as it stops on the first install window. I've already filed a bug but really haven't seen any feed back yet.The bug has something to do with Anaconda and the Raid array but I really can't tell.
I have an Intel Board (see signature). I am running intel raid software under W7 currently. It works fine. But, I'm wondering, when I attempt to install F!!, is my current raid set-up causing problems? Do I need to get rid of the intel raid software and use a Fedor/Linux raid program to manage the raid array??
I am unable to ssh a Linux box from other Linux boxes; also tried to window putty.Although I am getting the password prompt instantaneously. So far, by comparing logs of other server, I am just able figure out that "debug2: callback start" is not coming in ssh -vvv logs.
is there any way of selecting several programmes for installation at once in the software centre, like in earlier versions of Ubuntu? I have to install about 150 things, and one by one is time-consuming!
