Networking :: 425 Security Bad IP Connect?
Feb 17, 2010
I know nothing about linux and am pretty new to this all, but would like to learn.I searched google for a resolution to the problem I am having and the results led me to you.I try and download DrWebCureIt from my computer and get the "425 Security Bad IP Connecting on Mozilla and on IE 8 it says "Unable to display webpage."I tried on a friend's computer and had no problem downloading it. Can someone please help me? I have no idea what to do.

I am running KDE4 on Debian Squeeze. Networkmanager works fine, for both WEP and WPA. Connects automatically etc, no problem. The only problem exists when I want to connect to a WEP network which has an empty security key. I used to be able to connect before I used networkmanager using iwconfig and specify iwconfig wlan0 key off. I tried in networkmanager to specify both no security and WEP with an empty passkey. However, none works. Is there maybe somewhere a setting which precludes connecting because it is considered unsafe?

Since I have installed Fedora 13 it seems that I can't connect to WLAN APs which aren't secured by WPA. I'm surprised about the inserts to the messages logfile:
[Code]...
Most surprising insert for me: Jul 5 20:43:21 nbtobiaslnx NetworkManager[1328]: <info> Config: added 'key_mgmt' value 'WPA-PSK' Is this the reason for my problem? I use KDE and Network Manager for managing my networkconnections.

I am trying to setup a dhcp server for my internal network. I have two NICs, a modem, and a wireless router. I have my server connected directly to my modem which is providing me with Internet access on eth1 and is working fine. I have dhcp and dns setup on eth0 which is connected to my router. The router shows that it is connected to the Internet but when the router gives a client computer an IP address, the client is unable to connect to the Internet but can connect to the router. I will post my configuration files below with my current configuration.

I followed instructions for installing vidalia and polipo and everything seems to be working ok, but I cannot connect to tor from firefox using torbutton. I didn't edit configurations other than downloaded those for polipo, as described in the link above.I read that somebody got it working with foxyproxy better than torbutton, but torbutton is customised specifically to enhance tor, so I'd prefer to use it unless there issomething better.torbutton test fails with: Quote:Tor proxy test: Local HTTP Proxy is unreachable. Is Polipo running properly?Message log from tor:
Code:

I had put my computer on standby and when i restarted it, it powered off within a few seconds. I turned it back on and after that i've lost connectivity to internet on Ubuntu 10.04.
However I have VMware (XP) installed and internet/network works on that. I'm a newbie with Linux.
Here are some outputs:
I have tried to edit the connection using System>Preferences>Network Connections. I entered manual settings for IPV4, but whatever i enter there, it doesnt get reflected when i type ifconfig in the terminal window. I tried setting it to Automatic DHCP as well. Doesnt work.

I am setting up a KIOSK in a public location. The Idea being that staff will turn on the workstation in the morning and click the xguest account. Xguest will log in auto connect to AP, load Epiphany full screen and bring up the company web page. I am new to SELinux (there's the first problem!). I have a Fedora 12 SELinux box with vanilla xguest, User Profile Editor and Lockdown Editor installed. I have an SMC 802.11 NIC. I have configured the NIC to auto connect at BOOT. I configured the Lockdown Editor for Epiphany to the desired settings.
Everything works fine under the normal account. Everythign works under the xguest account except the auto connecting to the AP. I have made sure the /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts have the correct settings for the AP. The AP does not broadcast the ESSID. When I log in as the xguest I have to select the BSSID and type the password in to connect the first time. After that it will work even after reboot. If I power off again I have to select the BSSID and type the password again.
I think it is something with SELinux stopping it from auto connecting. I tried adding a script to the Startup Applications settings for the xguest account and SELinux blocks it from running. How can I set up the xguest account to auto connect to the AP?

Problem that may require several tools available on Fedora. I don't know if its possible or not.
Given: Surveillance video box based on Fedora & Zoneminder. Internet connection is via a private 10.x.x.x network connection to the local phone company/ISP. That's the only connection available and they are the only ISP in the area. The ISP uses NAT to ultimately provide a routeable IP address, but that only works on outbound initiated traffic.
Problem: How can someone out on the Internet hit this box? i.e Is there any way to rig a method that will ultimately allow a connection initiated from the Internet to see the surveillance video that this box has stored via an http session?
I thought of one idea but don't have the tools to implement it. User sends an email to a server out on the Net somewhere. Surveillance box retrieves mail ever minute. The mail contains the users IP address. Surveillance box sends an outbound packet to that IP address to get NAT functional. The users box then uses that address to hit the box on the private network. The snag with this is that NAT is specific to ports, and I have no sway over the ISP's NAT capability.
Is there any way to push an http session outbound to the waiting end user? i.e. initiate a push of http traffic from the private box to the end user?

I have cross posted as it is not really a wireless network problem (wireless networking works fine) but a wireless security problem (WEP and WPA security kill wireless networking).I am not total sure which forums it should be in.From original post in networking and wireless forum:I am having a heap of issues with wireless and hopefully the following will help someone out there in guru land help me fix this problem. It seems to be more then a simple computer to wireless security problem. This is long, get a cuppa and a cumfy seat and yes this did take me the better part of 1/2 a day to complete all this testing
I volunteer my various machines and time to try and fault find the issue on all machines to help the developers to fix this problem on mine and I can document everything. Hopefully this will help someone fix wireless security on Linux once and for all.

I have a server A that needs to connect to another server (B) to transfer data everyday.[A] ==SFTP==> [B]
I am using SFTP for the data transfert between A and B. I configured B to allow authentication only with a key, not with password. However, anybody who acccess the filesystem of A, could steal the password.
So I thought I could password protect the private key from A. But in such a case, I need to store the password somewhere on A, so the server A can access the private key to connect to B. Finally, it is endless: i always have to store somewhere a secret on A. Is there another solution that allow to have an authentication between A and B without storing plain text secret on the server A ?

I've recently set up a local development webserver using Karmic Koala. I downloaded and installed the server version of Kubuntu and have the web server working.
The problem is that for some reason, I'm no longer able to connect to the internet. I can connect to my router, and other machines in my network can VNC into the server.
I'm using an wired connection to the router and have the server set up on an internal IP of 192.168.0.100. I used to be able to connect to the internet, I downloaded and installed a load of packages etc before it stopped working.
The last thing I remember doing before it stopped working was that I installed Samba so I could share files with the other machines on the network (two Macs running Leopard and a WinXP laptop).
I got the share working - I copied a load of files to the server via the share, rebooted, and for some reason now I can't connect to the net (and other machines can't see the Samba share either.) However I can still VNC into the server.

I am using Nautilus to connect to an external server. Currently, I use password authentication, and all works fine. I just type sftp://SERVER and the connection is established after providing the login credentials. However, I changed the server to only accept Public Key Authentication and disabled password authentication, and as a consequence I could not login using Nautilus anymore. Is there some way to make this work?

I believe that the attacker somehow got in through the ssh daemon(OpenSSH 5.3p1) on June 12. From here, a user account named "crond" was created(can anyone confirm weather this is normal?) and according to the log, this account was accessed several times between Jun 12 and Jun 18 from the same ip address. Also on Jun 12, the MOTD on the ssh server was messed up and remained that way until it was reinstalled. The default ssh client(OpenSSH 5.3p1) was made completely non-functional.
I became alerted to the problem when my ISP advised me to run a virus scan on the machines on my network. Not knowing of any linux based anti-virus software, I decided to check for suspicious files on my hard drive. I found one, in the /tmp directory was a subdirectory called ".popscan". Inside was a script and a list of about 40 very default sounding usernames and passwords. There was also a file called "back.txt" in the root of my filesystem. Which is a pearl script that aparently spawns a shell.
At this point I disconnected the server from the internet and mirrored the drive. I found a suspicious home directory for "crond" I'm hesitating on setting up the server again for fear that it might just get rooted again. I would also like to find out how he got in so it can be prevented for other people aswell.

i am using 9.10 karmic. Firewall is enabled. added ports with ufw allow [portnumber], and i still cannot connect to a port number. iv tryed ufw allow ssh/tcp but that does not work. the ports work when i disable the firewall and i dont want to do that.
ufw is available in all new installations of Ubuntu since 8.04 LTS, but is disabled by default. The standard Ubuntu installation has a no open service ports policy, so enabling the firewall by default doesn't gain any extra security in the default installation, but could provide confusion for people new to Ubuntu when new software that is installed does not work because of restrictive firewall rules. As a result, when first adding ufw to Ubuntu it was decided that users must 'opt-in' to using the firewall. In Ubuntu 9.04 and later, you can enable ufw during installation using preseeding. See /usr/share/doc/ufw/README.Debian for details.

My goal is this: Allow a user to connect to a server via SSH with any login name or password without checking to see if that account exists on that server. Their account would be captured by a universal account say, 'generic_user', and then they would be directed to one of my python scripts with the username and password they supplied for initial login. At this point my script would capture their SSHD process ID and allow/deny their existence based upon a MySQL/Subscription check.
The part I'm having trouble with is with PAM and allowing the user to login with any credentials and be successfully authenticated under the generic account. Beyond that, everything is great.
