View 3 RepliesI have strange problem with my wireless connection. When I boot my computer, I can connect to my wireless network normally. After a random time between 2 and 20 minutes, I am disconnect and cannot reconnect to any wireless network I have no problems in Windows and Android.
I use the broadcom-sta-dkms driver and the power management is disabled.

I was happily running Ubuntu 9 but since I cannot get security updates for it anymore I had to upgrade to 11. Now I'm on Natty, and the "NetworkManager" apparently cannot deal with my latop's wifi card which worked fine for years under ubuntu 9. The laptop is a Dell latitude D610 and the card is an intel ipw2200 minipci. I used to just run /etc/init.d/network restart after I logged in to get the wireless to come up, if it failed by itself, but now I get a message that that's deprecated. Nice.
I'm running WPA. If I don't create a wireless configuration in the network manager, wireless never connects. Ever. If I do create a configuration, the connection comes up for about a minute, and then drops. And then comes up. And then drops. And then comes up. And then drops. It's insane. Also, I get a series of "Auto <ssid>" entries in the NM settings area.I dug around in /var/log, but all of the wpa_supplicant logs are of size 0, except the gzipped backups, which are all size 20. Go gzip. The syslog has some messages in it about 4-way handshake failed, and association taking too long, but since the laptop has no network connection I don't have an easy way to post those here.I just want the wireless to come up, by itself, when I turn on the laptop like it used to. I don't want to have to deal with retyping the (long and complicated) WPA password every time I wake up the machine, nor deal with the "keychain." How do I get there?
I tough that firefox was the problem of my very slow web sites loading, but I am suspecting that sometimes the internet connection is the reason, maybe for some reason that I don't know it can not just connect to the site.I am running Linux quick-desktop 2.6.32-22-generic #33-Ubuntu SMP Wed Apr 28 13:28:05 UTC 2010 x86_64 GNU/Linux.when I browse the web it is very slow to load.sometimes I get this error message.Could not locate remote server.Even I know the site is up running like google.

Lately I've been having some troubles with my wireless Internet connection, almost every 1min i disconnect and connect again few sec after and thats like hell if you try to fx. update. I have 85-92% signal so thats not my problem.I use Ubuntu 10.04 and the standard network manager. I'm connected to a netgear router and my computer is a acer aspire one.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have a cisco linksys wireless adapter (WUSB600n) which, most of the time, great when booting up. But mostly after some time (1min- 1hr.) it disconnects. When checking the status I can see some of the networks around me, including mine. But selecting it doesn't do anything. I searched the forums and tried:
sudo dhclient
and
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
But still no connection; the only thing that helps is rebooting.
do not post such long blocks of messages directly on the forums. Attach the output as .txt or use a pasetebin.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI recently installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my Acer TravelMate 3270 notebook (with Windows 7 dual boot) for everyday use. All is great except i started to notice my Wireless Network get disconnected and then reconnects every 5 minutes or so. Also the NetworkManager Applet 0.8 keep annoying me with the notifications that its disconnected and then reconnected.
I do not have this issue while using Windows 7 (in the same area). Can this be fixed. As i really want to move my day to day computing need to Ubuntu.
Since I upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 my wireless connection is very unstable. I install the needed wireless drivers from 'Hardware Drivers' (Broadcom STA wireless driver) and I got wireless connection, but it randomly disconnect, and also connection is very slow.
I think that the problem are the drivers which are not very compatible with this version of Ubuntu, which means we need to wait for update? I have HP ProBook 4510s laptop, Intel PRO/Wireless 5100 AGN network card & Gembird NSW-R2 router. I'm only having this problem on Ubuntu 10.04, on other OS's the internet is fine.
My network is barely functional. I'm running 2 linux servers connected by openvpn (tun) through routers on both sides. There are Windows clients (98 and XP) on both subnets. One server (ls3) acting as PDC for the domain. The Windows clients use the respective linux boxes as gateways. On the server side (ls3 which is both openvpn server and samba server), all the clients can read/write properly to shares on both sides. The problems are all on the client side. Share connections to the server side disconnect after a few moments.
Browsing on the client side windows machines is fine. I can see shares on the server side. Some server side files open and are readable, writable, other server side files will not open. Some samba logon scripts on the server side can be opened from the client side. Others open after a long wait to a blank file! Permissions on server side files are set to 777 for testing. If a file won't open or reads "blank", that doesn't change no matter how many times you try. A non-readable/writable file overwritten by a readable/writable one can be read and written to!
I can ping successfully from any client on either side to any other client by either ip address or workstation name. Firewalls on both side are set to forward tcp and udp traffic going to port 1194 to the respective gateway linux boxes. Iptables on both linux gateways are down for testing. I tried reversing the openvpn server/client roles with the same result; the same physical side of the network had the problem. On one of the windows 98 clients, I wiped out the networking configuration completely and rebuilt it from scratch. Same result.
One one of the windows xp clients, I tried to rejoin the domain. It went through successfully but the result was the same as above. The network was operating smoothly for several years until the client side dsl modem broke last week. It was replaced with a newer model and at the same time I migrated from a pptp connection to openvpn. How to resolve this, Is this something to do with openvpn? Is this a network hardware problem? Am I missing something in the port forwarding on the routers? My smb.conf files are ancient except I added interface tun0. I have never seen 2 files sitting next to each other in the same directory where one opens and the other doesn't!
I'm running Mandrake 9.2 on the client side and Mandriva 2008 on the server side. I have a Sonicwall firewall on the server side, a Westell 7500 on the client side. I note that during the modem install, the http port was opened to the linux box on the client side and the access log got huge over the weekend and I ran out of disk space until I closed it down and deleted the log. I tried a simple test while viewing /var/log/daemons/errors on the client side. From a windows workstation in the client subnet, I opened a dos window and tried to print a file located on the samba server on the openvpn server machine which I knew NOT to be problematic.
The file printed and there were no errors reported in the log. I repeated the test with a known problematic file. The file would not print. The errors log noted:
Authenticate/Decrypt packet error: packet HMAC authentication failed
I regenerated the static.key file on the server side and scp'd it to the client side and restarted both openvpn's. I checked for duplicate files named static.key on both sides. Same error.
I have 2 connections, wlan and wired, and I'd want to have a few websites (in my browser) to connect through the wireless connection while other go through the wired rj45 connection. s it possible? (without unplugging the rj45 cable...)
View 2 Replies View RelatedI was wondering if there's any way for a laptop to be both simultaneously connected to a wireless network, while at the same time acting as an ad-hoc network with local access to serve as a wifi connection for my mobile device, which would be ssh-ing into the laptop and using local resources.

View 2 Replies View RelatedThe situation: The office has a WiFi network on one DSL line, which is used for our VoIP call center, and a wired network for our internal network and the majority of web surfing/traffic . Part of the office must be temperature controlled/monitored - we have a rather nice digital thermometer which is WiFi enabled.I have a Debian Wheezy box with a WiFi card and ethernet connection
What I'm trying to accomplish:Connect wifi enabled thermometer to WiFi network so it can automatically send temp updates (currently I have to do it manually via USB)Have the Wheezy box accept the downloaded file then send it to a back up server in the wired network
Side things that may be useful : Prefer to use wired connection for internet and apt and suchWiFi connection will really just be used for connecting to the thermometer
This [URL] .... topic got me thinking that there might be a way to bring the two networks together, but I don't know if that will wreak havoc on things. I know, the Windows and Mac OS don't like having ethernet and wifi at the same time, might Linux be better for this?
v&n had this to offer in the prior thread [URL] .... which I'll be doing more research on.
Ive recently switched over to AT&T Uverse TV/Internet service and I've noticed that when I ssh into my linux( 2.6.18-194.3.1.el5xen CentOS) server I get disconnected. When I'm using putty it gives the "network error software caused connection abort" error. When I'm at work using one of our jump servers and ssh'ing from the command line it will freeze up from time to time but never disconnects. I think the problem is either with the OS or the new AT&T modem. At first I had my CentOS server using DHCP and it would disconnect within a few minutes after I ssh'ed. I switched over to a static IP and now it goes about 10 minutes before it disconnects. It doesnt matter if I'm actively typing or not, so it's not an inactivity issue. I have the firewall turned off on my laptop, and since the issue happens on multiple devices, including my iphone I dont think thats the issue.
I have iptables and selinux turned off/disabled so thats not it. In putty I have enabled Keep Alive(30 seconds) and it still disconnects. I opened the port on the modem to allow ssh for the IP of the linux server. Ive also recently reinstalled this server with CentOS so I can't compare with the previous internet provider as I didn't reinstall until after I switched over. BUT previous installs with CentOS 5.2 worked fine with the previous ISP. AT&T Modem is a 2wire 3800HGV-B
I've just installed the ubuntu 9.10. I have one problem with it. I have a home net in configuration: Windows XP on a cable, Ubuntu on a cable and Windows on wifi. When I'm surfing on the net on Ubuntu, Wifi isn't work how it should. It's very slow and I don't know what to do with it. Windows XP on a cable is OK, it works good. What happen and how can I repair it?
View 2 Replies View RelatedI just recently installed Ubuntu 9.10 on a dell laptop. My WiFi connection that I've been using on the same computer for years is not working when I log on. However if I run the burnt image cd and choose the option "Use Ubuntu without making any changes to your computer" I am asked if I want install proprietary drivers. If I activate one "Broadcom STA" I can connect to the wireless connection in my house. When I am using the version installed on my laptop it doesn't ask me if I want to install the drivers and it doesn't even find them when I go to hardware drivers under system. So to sum it up I can get connection when I run Ubuntu from the cd but not when I run the Ubuntu on my laptop.

Code:
nmap -sT -p 22 ventury
says port 22 is closed
scanning it from the notebook with cable lan,it says port 22 is opened
scanning it from the wireless lan of my notebook an have sent a ping from the workstation before says port 22 is opened.ution.

And why does it work fine with cable, but not with WiFi?
I just removed ubuntu-desktop in favor of kubuntu-desktop. Now I can't create an ad-hoc wifi connection however hard I tried from network-manager. It simply is not visible to other PCs. And when some connection is created on another ubuntu PC, I can't connect to it.. I switched NM off and tried the CLI way.

the laptop disconnected from wifi and the network connection icon on the panel dissapeared... If i restart the laptop will automatically join the wifi nwtwork for a couple mintues and then will go offline.
Hiw can i get the network icon back at least to see it that fixes the problem....
A few weeks ago I decided to install Ubuntu and try it. I was really exited about running Ubuntu in my computer. I was all fired up about the new software I installed. I found that I needed an internet connection to get additional software.
So my first task was to get an internet connection, I did a lot of research about this subject and I encounter small but a lot of difficulties.
I was trying with an internal modem in my computer and with a WiFi antenna with no success.
I don't want to give up, at least not yet, I hope that someone in this forum can lead me to get a successful internet connection.
The equipment I am using is as follows:
Computer Compaq
Internal modem
WiFi driver in tar.bz2 format.
This is the WiFi description: External Antenna USB WiFi Wireless IEEE 802.11G/B WLAN 54Mbps Network Adapter USB2.0 Wireless Lan USB Adapter for Laptop Noteook Desktop PC Suport Vista/Windows 7(32bit & 64bit)/Linux.
I'm brand new to Ubuntu, and Linux in general, and honestly don't know what I am doing. I installed Ubuntu 10.04 on my external hard drive and am able to boot fine (other than an issue with my monitor falling asleep because my graphics card needs a different driver. I have a work around for this that i'm currently using but I would like to fix it permanently and thus need an internet connection.)
When trying to connect to the network in my home, I am unable to. I click on the WiFi symbol in the top right corner, and I can see my network. I then click it and a page comes up asking for the key. I put it in but it doesn't sync and usually after a minute or so it pops back up asking for the key again. What can I do to gain internet access? I'm unable to connect my computer via a hard wire Ethernet cord and need to sort out this WiFi issue.
I bought my MacBook Pro at the beginning of the school year when I went to college. I am now living in a dorm where I do not have access to wired internet connection, so I cannot just plug my computer in to download stuff. If need be I can of course borrow someone else's computer to download something and then just transfer it over with a flash drive.
Anyway, I have a virtually new MacBook Pro that I bought in August. Using refit I have dual-booted OS X and Ubuntu (obviously I am posting this from within OS X) but I cannot manage to get connected wirelessly to the internet. I have tried this many many times with many many distros and have never once been able to connect. I understand that there are various tutorials around but none of them seem to help me at all and I really want this to work. I've been looking around and trying things for about two days now. Can someone give me step by step instructions (or point me toward some simple ones) starting, if need be, from a fresh install as to how to get wifi working on my macbook pro? I am also completely willing to switch versions of Ubuntu if that would help.
