I have set an option for Gecko Mediaplayer to work properly on [URL] in firefox 4. I think it was something like this
QuickTime/7.6.2 ( qtver=7.6.2 ; os=Windows NT 5.1Service Pack 3 )
Now gmail doesn't detect Firefox and gives me the Basic html view , asks me to upgrade to Firefox.
Gmail is not working in standard view mode in firefox after recent updates. I don't know what is wrong but it is not loading the standard view, all other browsers load it well on ubuntu 9.10 So don't know where the problem is.
View 5 Replies View RelatedFirst the issue is that when streaming long videos the playback would suddenly stop and I would need to restart playback manually and drag the progress bar to the correct position to resume playback. I think this is because buffering is not keeping up.
I would like to find a way to configure gnome-mplayer so that playback would just pause when buffer is running low and resumes as it grows, is that possible?
In order to do this I have been playing with the cache setting in gnome-mplayer.
Here are a few questions and observations.
1) In gnome-mplayer there are two cache settings, one go under the Preference > Mplayer tab, the other under Preference > Plugins. What is the difference?
2) I notice that if I set the plugin cache to be minimum then playback will not start until the 20% mark is reached, iit will take longer to start and the playback will last longer before buffer runs out. On the other hand if plugin cache is set to some large value then playback will start almost instantly (~ 1%) but also stops very quickly.
The question is 20% of what? I thought it means 20% of cache size so it should take longer to fill if the cache is set bigger, this seems to be the other way around.
3) With audio stream (say radio) it seems to be the opposite, if plugin cache is small then playback starts immediately, if it is big then it takes longer.
I would like to make sense of this and understand the logic behind it
P.S. Gnome-mplayer in Natty (as oppose to earlier versions) actually has too cache size options under Preference > Plugins but they don't seem to behave independently, for example, I set video cache to be large and audio cache to be small then according to 3) above (and the small audio cache) audio playback should start instantly but instead it takes a while so the size of the video cache has an effect even without video streaming.
I was wondering if there's another way than gecko-mediaplayer to play divx movies on the web. In chromium gecko sometimes freezes,usually when only 10 minutes are left from the movie and that's just freaking annoying, and you can't fast forward or backward also. Though it has some good things too I would like to know if there's an alternative for it in chromium, something like using vlc as in firefox.

1. is it normal that the ff 3.6 is running on gecko 3.0 on ubuntu? cuz in windows the ff 3.6 also has the 3.6 gecko

I have 2 screens connected by vga/dvi and need to use different resolutions...at the minute ubuntu is forcing the same for both. Where should I start looking. I have two video files recorded simultaneously. I want to edit them into one video file with non-standard resolution and a split screen view which, two videos can be seen together. I tried kdenlive but I was unable to change the output resolution.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have two partitions on my laptop. One which I only use for shopping and logging into bank website which has xubuntu 8.04/firefox 3.0.x and another partition which has ubuntu 9.10/firefox 3.5.6 which I use for programming and mucking about with networking.
I decided for extra security and because I would create a google mail account for my ubuntu 9.10. I created the google mail account in the xubuntu 8.04 partition with no problems logging into the google webiste.
I then booted into the ubuntu 9.10 partition and set up evolution to receive emails from my google mail account. I have sent and receive emails. When I tried to log into the google mail account to amend settings, after a while it comes up with a connection error.
* I don't have skype plugin
* I emptied cache and removed cookies
* I deleted firefox profile in $HOME/.mozilla
* Disabled all add-ons (I only have noscript, imglikeopera, adlock plus and the ubuntu firefox extensions)
* I tried the gmail manager extension
I installed epiphany web-browser and still was unable to log in to gmail.
Although I can log into my 8.04 parition to access gmail from the web, I would prefer to be able to do this via my 9.10.
For more than a week now, and Gmail is not opening. I was using Chromium, then tried Epiphany, Google chrome, even Midori; but it only opens with Firefox!! Am I the only one?
View 4 Replies View RelatedToday, all of a sudden, gmail is loading only the html view in my firefox. It is asking me to upgrade to a faster browser in order to have the standard view. Clicking on that link, I found that my firefox is already the latest version. It is not only gmail, but my institution mail is also loading in basic html mode. There is no problem with yahoo mail though.
The one thing that I did yesterday was installing many ubuntu themes and wallpapers. I changed the theme back to the old one but to no avail. Of course, the wallpaper is new, but that should not be causing any problem. I tried clearing the cache and deleting the cookies from google. But the problem persists i.e I closed all the google related tabs, cleared cookies and cache and restarted the browser. Note that Google chrome is able to load gmail properly.
Chrome crashes when I try to send attachments using Gmail, instead firefox works fine. Several users have the same problem, but I could't find a solution.I use openSuse 11.3, Chrome 7.0.517.44 and the lastest flash version.

use any browser and go to gmail. i can't get gmail to load. if i browse on videos, links to videos don't work. they appear to be taking a long time to buffer, then a message appears saying to try again. sometimes, links on google search pages are all dead. yahoo mail loads as far as logging me in, then i get a page with all dead links.
i'm using a laptop at several locations that have free public wifi. at some places, everything works perfectly normally. at other places, google and yahoo are almost useless. the "bad" places work just fine under ms windows.
so i figure it's a networking/handshaking issue, but that's all i can figure. i need help to troubleshoot it further. if it's happening to me, it has to be happening to other people, and i consider it a major hassle.
My college internet providers shifted to a different setting.. defined in the changing lan proxy settings on the user end. I.e.ip - 192.168.0.200 and port to 3000. This to reduce misuse of the net connection ..The thing is, since then, every other website is working, except GMail. It isnt blocked, the Nebero page shows up for blocked sites. When attempting to open gmail, the default internet page shows up for unavailability of page owing to no or slow response from the server, or the firewall or proxy settings not appropriately configured. I cannot open gmail, the connection on empathy im. I cant ping gmail either. No response. What can be the problem.

I have just rewired my LAN using Cat 6 cables. Download- and Upload speeds to my main machine are great :However, it seems my LAN speed is very slow. when I copy large files from my main desktop pc to my mediaplayer, I only reach a speed of 3,7 MB/s in Ubuntu 10.10 using SMB protocol to connect to mediaplayer. I use a Sitecom WL351 Router that works fine as far as I can see. Using my dualboot Windows 7 I can copy the same large files using same setup (same pc to same mediaplayer) I can copy with almost 10 MB/s. I appreciate a little protocol overhead in Ubuntu, but this seems to be a little too much

I really want to make the switch from Firefox to Opera as it is so much faster and more stable. But am having real trouble getting mplayer to work. I was wondering if anyone who has successfully managed to get mplayer plugin working in the Opera web browser. Iv been trying for a couple of days now and its getting repetitive. Iv tried following the instructions here: [URL] I think im having trouble with Gecko SDK, havnt been able to find a package thats ppc compatible (am running Karmic on an iBook G4). Though i found an RPM package that was and converted it with Alien, not sure if it actually worked though.
I have XULrunner 1.9.1 and mplayer installed. Im falling down on this step of the above linked tutorial: "Type ./configure --enable-x [--with-gecko-sdk={path}] where {path} is the path to the Gecko SDK" But have tried just running "./configure" and "make" from within the directory, without, of course, the desired effect. Also im not sure when it says "Locate the files mplayerplug-in*.{so,xpt}" what or where "mplayerplug-in*.{so,xpt}" is supposed to be.
