Ubuntu :: Verbatim Print To Pdf From Firefox?
Dec 25, 2010Just as in the title. Would like a pdf that looks exactly like the website. Graphics, CSS and all. 'Print to file' printer available does not do this.

I'm running Kubuntu 10.10 with a Laserjet 5M printer. When I attempt to print a job from Firefox or from Okular, the job never gets onto the print queue. However, I can print test pages on the printer and also print from OpenOffice, so this seems to be app-dependent. I know the jobs aren't being queued because the job number doesn't increase (as shown by the jobs for the test pages). Both Firefox and Ocular give every indication that the print job has been processed correctly.

When I go to /media there are no directories that could be the CD-ROM. I therefore cannot 'see' the CD (which is blank btw). I then went into XP. Windows Explorer could see the blank CD. I then wrote to it. I then went back into Ubuntu. Now when I put the CD into the external drive Dmesg shows:
[97.594505] ISO 9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3
[97.674629] ISO 9660 Extensions: RRIP_1991A
When I go to /media I see the name of the CD. Why will XP and Ubuntu see the CD with information on it but only XP can see the blank CD?
I have been using g4l to do cold backups of my OS partitions for a LONG time. I finally decided to configure a boot USB flash drive instead of a CD for this purpose. Using the EXCELLENT instructions on this page [URL] I configured a Lexar 1 GB Firefly drive and have used it for some time. When a newer version of g4l came out I decided to build another boot flash drive using a Verbatim 1GB drive. I followed the same instructions and...
The Verbatim flash drive will boot my Dell Studio XPS and my Dell Latitude 2100 netbook. It will NOT boot either of my Dell Dimension 4600s. The Dimension 4600s respond with a message "Missing operating system" when I try to boot from the Verbatim drive. The Firefly works on all machines and I configured Kingston 1GB and 2GB Data Travelers which also work on all machines.
I want to mount external hard drive using fedoracore 15 on a Verbatim 500 GB.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have been at a loss to figure out what is wrong with firefox this time. But I updated to 10.04 because I was two updates behind and now I still have 1 issue I haven't figured out. It isn't huge, but just annoying. I can't print from firefox. I have a wireless printer hp officejet J4680, and get the following error in the messages log.
Not sure what the translation for this is. This is what I get when I try to print from firefox. Opera works, office works, just doing an lpr command on something I had firefox save to a file works. So I don't think it is drivers, the update or anything else outside of something again ridiculous firefox doesn't have working yet. Anyone run into this or know where the patch is. I haven't been able to find anything. Have tried purging cups reinstalling. updating firefox etc. just nothing hit the target. Like I said firefox is the only thing not working. I can print from opera and office.
I cant print in firefox 3.6 by cups. Whe i go to file print i see the printers. The file is send to the wright printer. Printer crasch. I look on internet en found a solution. Firefox can only print to file. I had to add gtk-printer-backbands ="lpr, file" in /etc/gtk-2.0 in the file gtkr. and restart cups When i co to the printers i don't see the printers but only lpr. When i klik print the page wil print but only to the defualt printer. Is there a solution the fix this error. Ore how can i give the commando lpr -p printername. I try this on command line I make 2 printqueue's to the same printer and when i give echo "text" | lpr -p printername it works How can i change the gtkr file to have the posibility to slect the printers
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a fresh install of 11.3 KDE 4.4 and am trying to set it up to print via CUPS over the network. The printer tests OK from the YAST set up page and will print fine using OO. The HPLIP icon is showing in the system tray.
When I try to print from Firefox the printer is never discovered and Firefox quits responding so does Thunderbird when you try to print an email. Kwin pops up a message about terminating the application which you have to accept. Konqueror just locks up when you try and print from it and you are forced to kill the application.
Printing works perfectly on the Host machine regardless of the application used.
This is a real showstopper here. It's the wife's new machine and she must be able to print from Firefox and Thunderbird.
Firefox 3.6 won't print with cups.
I'v found on this ore other forum a sollution But is there a better one.
I must add the line
But hen i can only print to the default printer.
Then i have to do lpoptions -d printername to set the other printer default.
it is good for now but looking fort better solution.
My System spec is::Ubuntu 10.04/Kernel 2.6.32-25-generic #45-Ubuntu i686 GNU/Linux
gnome::2.30.2. Laptop - Dell E6400. today I updated it, the problem I'm facing occurs even before update so update is not the cause.till yesterday night every thing worked fine.Problem::>>When ever i try to print from firefox/Chromium/Gedit the print dialog appears shows just print to file and hang up !>>I checked in System->Administration->Printing and it shows list of network printers(I'm in Lan). Even i can successfully print from gvim/writer.>> once i left that dialog box left open, may be around 10 min latter i saw the list of printer but when i tried again same thing- Hang I even checked with cupsd it is running normally.Admin team just solved the problem it was due to the shared printer option enabled in System->Administration-Printing.Hope the shared printer call was delaying too much to cause hang.
Many years ago I was able to print a listing of bookmarks in Mozilla browser. I would like to do that again.
The problem is that I'm now using Firefox 3.6.12 and can't find anything in the menus to allow this. I've tried cut and paste from the organize bookmarks view but it doesn't work very well, loosing formatting.
method to obtain a printed listing?
There is the option to select a "printable form", but the form is much larger than any paper the printer supportsIf I use "Print Preview" in Firefox, it creates only one page that contains the beginning of the form, and ignores the rest of the form.If I do the exact same thing on a Windows machine, Firefox creates as many pages as necessary when I click "Print Preview"I feel that this problem is not because of Firefox, but because of how "Print Preview" works on Ubuntu. How can I get the print preview to create additional pages to include the entire text when I click "Print Preview" ?

I tried firefox 3.6.x .3.5.x 4.x, perhaps it's necessary to know that I've GSB installed. I didn't understand this.
Well, that's about it - the firefox and thunderbird packages included on the first batch of official 13.1 updates keep crashing when I try to print a web page or an e-mail. Seamonkey, updated as well, can print as usual.
View 14 Replies View RelatedWe have a lpr server for printing (not CUPS for compatibility with complicated domain/systems). We configured our linux systems -- RHEL4, RHEL5, and Ubuntu 10.04 -- so that lpr is one of the gtk print possiblities by adding 'gtk-print-backends = "lpr, pdf, file"' to gtkrc. This works great for several gtk-enabled applications like Acrobat Reader (acroread).
However, Firefox 3+ (tested 3.6.3 & 3.0.19) doesn't actually queue any lpr jobs until after quitting the application.
Interesting problem: For the first time with Xubuntu 10.10 64bit, I am finding certain applications print corrupt. A varying amount of letters / numbers either get substituted/print a blank space/ print a box etc etc. This corruption seems to happen from a Pdf ( evince ) or Spreadheet ( Gnumeric ) Opening the same Pdf on another machine (ubuntu 10.10 32bit) prints perfectly. Opening the same .xls file on the original computer but using OOo Calc prints perfectly.
I guess I have ruled out any problems with the printer itself or the network JetDirect box. I have re-installed CUPS and evince and upgraded to the latest version of HPLIP but the problem appears unchanged.
I cannot print pdf files. I have tried using okular and xpdf. The documents display in the program, but print preview shows a blank page. The printer then sends out blank pages. I have tried printing on 2 different printers using usb cables. Using terminal to process the commands shows error:
Quote:
xxx@xxx:~$ xpdf
***** MediaBox = ll:0,0 ur:611.976,791.968
***** CropBox = ll:0,0 ur:611.976,791.968
***** Rotate = 0
Segmentation fault
Converting to .ps also is blank.
My wife has a canon MP470 printer and running ubuntu 10.10. I am able to print black and white, but unable to print photos. I got it to work using another driver, but not the 'correct' one for this printer. I have searched a bit and don't see anything about ubuntu 10.10, just older versions. Or should I just network her to my printer....?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI initially had a problem accessing the CUPS interface (see my other post) and got that resolved by adding the user "cupsys". Now, everything "looks" ok, and when I print a test page, it shows it as completed (in CUPS). However, the page never prints.
The printer is a Canon MP600 (using the canonmp600en.ppd file to configure it). Here's the output of my conf file.
Code:

Not sure when CUPS started acting up. I have the latest 13.1 current software installed. The first page to print is always OK, but all succeeding pages are overwritten. The second page shows the first page on top of it, and the third shows the preceding pages on top of it - and so on. Has anyone else seen this problem?I guess the printer buffer is not getting flushed correctly. If my configurations were trashed in some way, I don't know where to look for a fix.
View 14 Replies View RelatedHow can I combine multiple single page prints into a single print job? For example, using Firefox on Linux one can print a web page such that each sheet of paper has four pages printed upon it. I would like to combine several separate web pages so that for example, web-page-a, web-page-b and web-page-c (each less than one print page long) are printed on a single sheet of paper.
I would like to do this without having to use some form of image editor to combine and manage manually created temporary files.
Our one remaining problem seems to be printing. She has an HP OfficeJet 6500 USB printer. We have the computer conntected. Strangely, when I boot from the CD the printer shows up as installed even though I did nothing to install it. After having submitted a print job it shows the printer status as "idle" and the print queue is empty. I tried deleting that printer and re-installing. The installation went as one would expect. However the results are the same. I'm beginning to think that somehow the problem is related to the fact that we are operating from the live CD. getting this thing to print from the live CD.

Actually they aren't completely blank..it shows half of "2 of 6" or whatever page it is on. Like it cuts that in half and prints the 2nd half of "2 of 6" onto a separate new page.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded (via Ubuntuzilla) to firefox 3.5.7 and now, every single time I close Firefox, the program seems to crash without quitting completely.
First, I receive an error saying that the program will not close and asks me if I want to Force Quite or Wait for it to close on its own. This has been happening ever since I upgraded to Karmic and if I just wait it usually quits fully after a couple seconds.
Now what happens is this: the window still closes, but if I try to reopen Firefox then I get this error stating that Firefox is already open and therefore cannot be opened again. The only way to get back into Firefox is to restart the entire computer. (Incidentally, this is the same problem that occurs whenever I try to Force Quit Firefox)
This now happens every single time I "close" Firefox.
Does anyone know the source of this error? Or a workaround?
How do I force Firefox to recognize a certain default firefox profile I have?
For whatever reason I can't get FF to show all of the add-ons I have. Yes, they are installed and they appear when as icons when I first boot up but after I close FF and start it again there are no icons (like Adblock).
