Ubuntu :: Use The Playonlinux Application In The Software Center?
Jul 25, 2011
I currently run a dual boot system Windows Vista & Ubuntu, I am trying to use the Playonlinux application in the software center, for those who may not know what this is, it allows you to install windows application (ie games) on your linux system.. but im getting an error when installing software, it keeps saying that there is not enough space on my HD to install then shows me the current amount of HD space that is availible, its only saying i have about 7gigs free, but i have well over 200gigs free on my HD, Im guessing that Ubuntu made a partition to install on, and it didnt make it big enough. (Just my best guess) Is there a way i can increase this partition size? without having to reinstall? or am i just totally off track and should be trying something else!
When I try to install an application using the software center it simply does nothing when I click install. The following is the output in terminal when I click install -
Code: jeff@sager-ubuntu:~$ software-center WARNING:root:No styling hints for Raleigh were found... using Human hints .....

Is it possible to suggest an application to appear in the "Featured Applications" list in the Ubuntu Software Center?I would like to suggest that "OpenShot Video Editor" is included.
Just got my 11.04 and tried to use some settings in Compiz. I`ve made these steps: Install the CompizConfig Settings Manager (ccsm) application from the Software Center. If you need assistance with installing the application, consult the software installation help, or review the Ubuntu Software Center Manual.
After you have installed the program, click the power icon at the very right of the panel and select System Settings. In the Personal section, click CompizConfig Settings Manager. In the Desktop section of the CompizConfig Settings Manager, click Ubuntu Unity Plugin, and select the Experimental tab.
I`ve clicked on the left side there was something like "enable plugin" or sort of. And my launcher, and the pane on the top dissapeared! I got nothing. Just the screen. Nothing is workin. What the f>..?
I'm just wondering if it's possible to install "fedora"'s gnome-packagekit with it's GUI (gpk-application) in debian squeeze rather than installing "ubuntu" software center? Are there packages availabe in .deb file format in any repository?
i've installed playonlinux on my system ubuntu 10.04 , and it says that 3d acceleration aren't enabled , how can i do that , this is the output of : lspci | grep VGA VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
I have the CD game with the key, everything is legitimate. I am currently running Karmic (I can't upgrade to Lucid otherwise my wireless won't work!)
The installation according to the PlayOnLinux instructions seems to work well, but when I start the game it asks me for to insert the CD to proceed. Of course, the CD is already in.
There was a similar thread posted here more than 1 year ago, but it didn't seem to have resolution. I saw this: [url] and it looks like I'm supposed to install the No-CD patch in step 15, but I get an error message when I try. I am supposed to run that Play on Linux thing in step 15 from the terminal, right?

I started up Playonlinx, go down to the starcraft 2 option and click apply or install and all it does is freeze up every time. Last time I installed starcraft 2 just through wine I had some in game issues that made it non playable.

When I try to download software on playonlinux the program just freezes, and the screen glazes over. The program I am trying to download is internet explorer 7. I have wine. Do I have to have the files already on the computer, or is playonlinux supposed to download them.
I used playonlinux for a manual install of a game that needs more than one cd. I can't eject to install the next cd in line. How do I unlock the drive? I'm now in the middle of installing.
I seem to have is trying to get the internet to work. I can go to ..... ect but when I try to run playonlinux it says you do not seem to be connected to the internet, please post if you have anything useful, as I said I am very new to linux so be as detailed as possible.
How do I make an application launcher in the panel launch more than one application? Is there some sort of a symbol I type between the apps in the command line? Like ;
when an application is opened or minimized the icon of that particular application is not showing up in the top bar of ubuntu 11.04...how can i see the icons in the top bar?
I've downloaded VideoLan (VLC) via Yast but the icon was placed in the audio folder. How do I move it to the video player folder? Also, where are additional icons stored? I run SuSE 11.2 (boxed version) with KDE.
I am getting no packages listed in Gnome application manager gpk-application 2.27.2. I have tried 'yum clean all' and get the following error messages.
So, I have this application called Impact, it is an explicit time integration Finite Elements code written in Java...

I untar the pack, and launch the application calling a script, from within the untarred folder,
Code:
This launches a gui which allows me to setup a case, which needs some setup file, tipically some *.in and a mesh file, tipically some *.msh.
Other mode of executuion consists of calling the setup file as argument to Impact.sh script ( CLI execution mode, for g33k5 )
My problem is : I have packed the whole stuff into a Slackware .tgz, that places it in /usr/local/Impact, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin,
Code:
Code:
I decided to hack the ImpactGUI_OGL_linux_amd64.sh script from
Code:
Code:
no avail,
Code:
even after adding /usr/local/Impact/bin to PATH... won't go...
I can run this thing from within its directory... but I do not like messing within the directories of my applications, this is why I sent this to /usr/local, and placed a calling script in /usr/local/bin...
I am trying to troubleshoot an application that is generating several segfaults with an error 14, but the application is not crashing. The program continues to run. I would assume I can connect to a running process to debug it, but I'm not sure what to gather. The program has several background processes associated with it so I'm sure I'll need to attach to the actual internal process. Does anyone have any experience in this to offer some insight?
I experimented with Mac4Lin over the weekend, and as much as I liked it, I decided (like I do most anything) to eventually revert back to the normal interface. The problem is, this has left me entirely unable to read any text in the Ubuntu Software Center, or in some dropdown menus (the "Prefix" dropdown menu for this post is unreadable). Included is a screenshot of what the Software Center looks like. I've already tried rebooting and uninstalling/reinstalling the software center with no luck. I can only assume there's a font setting somewhere that I need to tweak, but I can't find it at all. I'm running 10.04.
I have 10.04 that I have downloaded. Heres the problems I cant get my wifi driver to work it doesn't download. I cant download flash player or the flash player installer. My Ubuntu software center wont come up.
I just installed 10.04 and things are working alright for the most part. My main problem is that the Software Center cannot seem to connect to the internet. It gets to 5% and stops, after a few minutes it says it "cannot connect, check your internet connection".
I am online posting this right now and I have no troubles downloading packages manually, but I would prefer to use the handy-dandy center. Any insight into this would be lovely. I'm pretty new to Ubuntu, and I just haven't encountered this before.
I have installet ubuntu lucid and it works fine. After the installation of other user software like keepass and truecrypt, the software-center utility doesn't start. I start it but the process start and after few second it exit from top utility. No screen output it doesn't start. I tried to start in terminal and receive this log: Traceback (most recent call last) code...
