Ubuntu :: Upgrading Netatalk Past The Official Meerkat Release Version?

Jan 8, 2011

Shortly after upgrading to Meerkat I discovered that my macbook timemachine backups became unreliable to the point of uselessness. After a bit of googling it appears that Meerkat's version of Netatalk (2.1.2) has some issues that bust timemachine. These issues are supposedly fixed in version 2.1.3. So... what is the best way for me to go about upgrading Netatalk past the official Meerkat release version?

The Netatalk project is at version 2.1.5. I could uninstall the Meerkat packages and just try to build Netatalk directly from source. However I'm a little leary about losing all of my existing AFPD filesystem meta-data. The Natty Narwhal repository appears to have version 2.1.4 which I've read should solve my problem. Is there any way to install the binaries from the Natty repositories? Can I download the source package from the Natty repositories and rebuild the package with Meerkat libraries/dependencies?

Ubuntu :: Meerkat - Upgrade Netatalk To Latest Version

Feb 24, 2011

I'm trying to upgrade netatalk to the latest version because my Time Machine gets corrupted when the volume reaches its max capacity. How do I do it? I uninstalled netatalk, downloaded the latest package, made configure, make, make install (without any errors, just some warnings), but netatalk doesn't seem to run. I can't connect to the shares. If I install netatalk 2.1.2 via synaptic everything starts to work again. How to upgrade netatalk to the latest version on ubuntu 10.10?

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrading 10.04 Beta 2 To Official Releas?

Apr 15, 2010

I need to install a distro on a new machine. I'm edging towards Ubuntu 10.04 but I don't have time to wait until the official release date. If I install Beta 2 and continue to update it until the official release will my version be the same as the official release or am I going to have to make a fresh install of the official release?

I don't mind putting up with some minor bugs (especially as some big ones seem to have been solved since Beta 1) but I can't be doing with another fresh install. This seems to be a problem with a lot of distros. Fedora is every 6 months with no LTS solution, Debian is outdated on a lot of packages I use and Arch just seems to spend a lot of it's time broken.

When doing do-release-upgrade -d to upgrade from karmik to lucid. I using local mirror ftp://ubuntu.snacho.ru (also have http that works but not browseable). When I change lines in /etc/apt/sources.list from local mirror to official [URL] all works fine. I don't want to download 1Gb from internet (because of traffic cost). I currently have a server that is running on the Linux kernel 2.6.18-128.7.1.el5xen and I was wondering if it was possible to upgrade it to a new official Red Hat non-xen kernel(currently 2.6.37.1).What is unique about this kernel is that it is NOT a virtual system kernel but an older XEN kernel with proprietary material removed. If it is possible I was wondering about any repercussions that may occur as a result of said update. This would include, any issues with potential data/driver losses as well as recovery procedures that may be used if something would happen to it during the upgrade.

Fedora Installation :: Yum Preupgrade Release Version?

Jan 21, 2011

I have an F14 system which was created by preupgrade in two stages from an F12 system. I had a couple of preupgrade crashes along the way, but was able to resolve them and the installation appears to be working fine except for some minor yum problems. Yum appears to be confused about which release it is at. It has a number of 'fedora-release' packages installed:

Code:
Installed Packages
fedora-release.noarch 12-2 @updates
fedora-release.noarch 13-1 installed
fedora-release.noarch 14-1 installed

[Code]...

If I include --releasever=14 in each yum operation, things seem to work normally. However if I leave this out, every yum operation creates hundreds of 'duplicate package' messages, and fails to proceed. I assume if I could remove the outdated release packages, the problem would be resolved - but I haven't been able to find how to do this.

Ubuntu Installation :: Upgrading From 10.10 To 11.04 Version

Sep 1, 2011

I am just a fresh starter at Ubuntu so I ask you for some comprehension and to answer my question about a problem I have. I had started upgrading Ubuntu from 10.10 to 11.04, everything went fine until a message appeared saying:

Failed to fetch [URL]...untu1_i386.deb 404 Not Found
Failed to fetch [URL]...untu3_i386.deb 404 Not Found
Failed to fetch [URL]...3.11-1_all.deb 404 Not Found

Failed to fetch [URL]..._1.0.3_all.deb 404 Not Found
Failed to fetch [URL]..._1.0.3_all.deb 404 Not Found

Then I had to close the upgrading process because of that message I tried again but it came out with the same result.
