Ubuntu :: Unlock Keychain In Order To Use Wifi At Every Login?

Oct 2, 2010

I've got a recurring problem on the latest install of Ubuntu 10.4 64 Bit. Everytime I log in, in order to use establish a wifi connection I have to enter my password again to unlock the system keychain. Until I do this no Wifi connection is established.

I've got the system setup on an Acer Aspire Revo which has an RaLink rt3090 card in it. I was using the 2.1.3 driver but have updated to the latest .7 driver and still have them same problem but I suspect this is some sort issue with Ubuntu rather than the driver.

The machine is setup as an HTPC to logs in automatically and boots up Boxee which needs an internet connection so it'd be great to get the internet working from the get go rather than having to enter the password again.

Anyone got any ideas why I'm being asked to unlock the key chain again and to stop this from happening so the wifi works immediately after logged in.

Fedora Servers :: Remote VNC Login From SSH Keychain Access

Apr 21, 2010

I recently configured a server that I would like to access remotely. I want to start x through ssh and then log in through vnc, but I get prompted to type in my password in gnome before I have a change to login. Which is a problem because you need to be at the box to enter the password. Is there a way to authenticate this through ssh or give vnc automatic keychain access?

Ubuntu :: Unlock Login Keyring Freeze?

May 2, 2010

Im unable to login to my computer because directly on startup the "unlock login keyring" pops up, i can move my mouse around but cant click anything or type/use commands.

The loading also takes longer then usual. This is in lucid 64bit. I installed gnome-do the night before so i think it has something to do with that, but i really dont know what to do. I tried going into terminal (alt-f2), or killing the process with ctrl-alt-esc but they keyboard is useless (though not entirely frozen as i can turn on/off numlock etc)

Is there someway i can bypass this temporarily and then get rid of it (from bug reports ive read it seems deleting gnome-do will work)

Ubuntu :: Log In Password Unchanged, Login Keyring Won't Unlock?

Aug 21, 2010

I have recently made a fresh install of Lucid Lynx. After restarting my computer (due to kernel updates), my log in password no longer unlocks my login keyring. I have never changed either password, so there is no "old" password to resort to.How do I fix this? I am not opposed to deleting whatever data is encrypted by this keyring. Also, how might this have happened? This could be a bug; are there any relevant log files or such?

Ubuntu Networking :: Unlock Login Keyring When Launching Gwibber Or Empathy?

May 16, 2010

I'm not sure if this is the correct section to ask this question, so mods please move if needed. This happens with a freshly installed Lucid 64 bit, 2.6.32-22-generic kernel. Each time I boot into the system I get prompted for my password: "Unlock Login Keyring

Enter password to unlock your login keyring The login keyring did not get unlocked when you logged into your computer." At first I thought it was the wireless network problem, so I already checked my wireless as "Available to all users", but this didn't stop the prompt. Doing a little bit more of research, if I cancel the dialog without entering my password, I can access the web without any problems (so again it is not the wireless connection problem), but then if I try to launch Gwibber I get the prompt again (two times actually, if I press Cancel the first time), or if I launch Empathy as well (three times in a row if I press Cancel; probably it has to do with the fact that I'm logged into 3 different accounts, facebook, gmail and hotmail?).

Furthermore, this two nice pieces of sofware offer almost zero configuration options to the user, at least GUI-wise, so there is no checkbox for "Available to all users" or anything simmilar for the matter. For instance, in gwibber I have spell-check turned on by default and there is no way to turn it off. So I guess I'll have to tweak some configuration file in some obscure folder,

Ubuntu :: Disable Failsafe Gnome And / Or Unlock Login Preference Window

Jul 9, 2010

when i called up the login screen to change to automatic login, i apparently changed my preference from GNOME to Failsafe GNOME (knew i made an extra click but didn't know where, dumb, i know). with Failsafe the network manager applet and all the other default prefs disappeared. the worst is that i can't connect to wireless without the nm.

these are preferences, right? you should be able to go right back anytime and change them but now when i go settings > admin > login the window is locked. only the unlock button is lit up and that won't budge. so as the thread title says, how do i unlock login preference window and/or disable Failsafe Gnome?

Ubuntu :: Way To Bypass The Keychain Password?

Dec 3, 2010

I realise that passwords are a good thing but I'm getting fed up having to enter a password just to get my wireless network to work every time I switch on Ubuntu or when I log out and back in again.

Seeing as there is nobody in the house that I want to keep away from the computer, is there a way to automatically sign-in to my wireless network without having that annoying key-chain popping up every time?

Ubuntu Security :: Which App Is Trying To Access My Keychain

Jun 14, 2011

I am used to, on starting Ubuntu on my Netbook, being prompted with a password challenge to open my Keychain required to authenticate against the WPA enabled WiFi network.

Now, Ive recently installed Ubuntu on a desktop PC, along with some dev tools (Code::Blocks etc.) but it gives me a keychain access challenge about 4 times on startup. I can't seem to figure out which app is trying to (get my permission to) access my keychain, and for what Purpose.

(By contrast: on my Mac, when an application tries to open the keychain, the application, its certificate, and the search data of the matching key that will be accessed are all displayed making it much easier to determine what app is being naughty) How do I do simular diagnostics with Natty?

When I cancel these requests, nothing "breaks".

I just moved from openSUSE 11.0 to 11.2.

While I like to new login screen (I was using a face based theme previously), I am stumped on how to control the order that the user names are presented.

As best I can tell, they are presented in the order who logs in most frequently. While that makes a certain amount of sense, I would like to be able to force the list to remain alphabetical.

Is there any way to control this, and if so, where?

OpenSUSE Network :: Network Manager Requires To Enter Password Every Time - Login To Unlock Password Keyring?

Jan 29, 2009

I've tried Ubuntu, Arch, and most recently Fedora but the SUSE GNOME environment blows everything else away!

The only problem (so far) is that Network Manager requires you to enter your password every time you login to unlock the password keyring. I want to disable this.

I think some distros disable the prompt by using the login password to unlock the keyring, but I use auto-login (if that makes a difference).

Debian :: Can't Connect To WiFi Hotspot With Login Page

Aug 4, 2015

I am trying to connect to a paid for hotspot service. There is no encryption for the wifi.

In Windows you connect to the hotspot, and then any webpage that you attempt to connect to results in you being redirected to their login page.

Once you have put a username and password into their page, the internet works. I know the hostname and IP address of the login page so actually I can go straight there if necessary.

With Debian I have tried Network Manager, WICD and command line iwconfig and dhclient.

With Network Manager or WICD the connection just will not start. It seems to connect to the hotspot then immediately fall off before you can go to the login page.

With iwconfig and dhclient I get mode Managed not-associated. Sometime dhclient seems to return an IP address sometimes not. I'm not sure if it's because it already has an address in it's lease lifetime.

I think that dhclients sends a ping once the connection is up to verify the link? But this will not work until the page is logged into.

Windows "just works" even warning you that you need a login page and then loading it. How I can use this wifi service with Linux?

Ubuntu :: Setup A Background Automatic Login Account To Start Wifi And Prey

Dec 24, 2010

If I understand correctly Ubuntu does not allow a wifi connection until a user loges in. That makes it so that prey (see preyproject.com) cannot send notices until someone has logged onto Ubuntu.what I would like to do (but I have no clue how) is to set up a user account that automatically, in the background, logs on at start up. Then this little user login would establish any Internet connection that is possible (wifi or lan) and start the program 'prey'. This should all be totally transparent to the user that would just see the regular log in screen.
