I always get this prompt in Ubuntu and the option to auto login is grayed out so i cant choose it. Its not a serious issue but does anybody know how to unlock it when i sign in on Ubuntu 11.4?

I didn't know where else to place this.It's really preventing me from doing some things, such as setting up the Empathy IM program for chatting and whatnot, and this default keyring really haulting any progress I can make on that front. It also pops up when I'm just booting up the laptop. My brother set the password and then forgot, so he tried all of these passwords and it would never work. It always pops back up several moments later and reiterates its question. It goes away when I click on 'Deny', but now I can't follow that same route when trying to set Empathy IM Client up. I would like to either do away with this password requirement, or just change it to something I can easily remember

For security reasons I need to have my password requested at login but don't feel I need it for evolution as I thought my email password was enough.

The only problem (so far) is that Network Manager requires you to enter your password every time you login to unlock the password keyring. I want to disable this.
I think some distros disable the prompt by using the login password to unlock the keyring, but I use auto-login (if that makes a difference).
i tried to use empathy with my gmail account ,but when i add my account details then a messsage come and ask to enter password for default keyring to unlock. next to it the given message is:The Application 'Account Manager'(/usr/lib/telepathy/mission-control-5)wants acccess to default keyring,but it is locked. while i have never entered any password except for my user account and root account.also i don't know about default keyring and its function.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI just re-sized my windows partition on my laptop and installed 10.04.1. Brand new clean install. I set up my user account, gave it a password, and everything was fine until I tried to connect to my wireless. I typed in the security key for my wireless, and it asked for a password to unlock the default keyring. The problem is, I never set a password for the "default" keyring. I never changed my user password. I didn't auto-login, I entered my password. This was the first boot up of the machine after installing 10.04.1. I can't use Empathy, because the keyring cannot be unlocked. If I "cancel" it gives me an error saying the account details are wrong, but I log into my facebook, aim, and msn every day, so I know the passwords are correct.
I have read about other issues with the keyring and with the auto-login bug that is associated with it. I have also read up on the bug that occurs with that as well. I couldn't find anything about my specific situation, so I hope this isn't a re-post of an issue that has already dealt with, but I did look it up. If it helps, the laptop I am running is a HP Pavilion dv7-3065dx, and I have Ubuntu Desktop 10.04.1 x86 installed. Clean install and the only thing I have done was log in, connect to network, and try to set up Empathy. Both Empathy, and connecting to network, gave me the issues with the keyring. It appears that there is already a password for the default keyring, it is not blank, and my user login password does not work for it. I'm at a loss...

Automatically unlock this keyring whenever I'm logged in it keeps asking it to me at each startup and the connection does not establish if I don't do it. I don't see anything special in the settings for "Passwords and Encryption keys"
Is there a way to remove this?
I seem to have added all my passwords to the default keyring while using a live session. Now when I log in, I am then asked to unlock my default keyring. I thought if you logged in with a password this wasn't necessary. When I look at my passwords and encryption keys, all my passwords appear in the default folder, and nothing is in my login folder. Is there a way to migrate these passwords. Or is there a way to automatically unlock my default keyring?

Now, I don't recall ever setting one up, each password I try (e.g. the user or root) fails and gives me the prompt again. After a few clicks of "deny" it does go away but I want to know what it is and if I can stop it from prompting me).
View 4 Replies View RelatedIm unable to login to my computer because directly on startup the "unlock login keyring" pops up, i can move my mouse around but cant click anything or type/use commands.
The loading also takes longer then usual. This is in lucid 64bit. I installed gnome-do the night before so i think it has something to do with that, but i really dont know what to do. I tried going into terminal (alt-f2), or killing the process with ctrl-alt-esc but they keyboard is useless (though not entirely frozen as i can turn on/off numlock etc)
Is there someway i can bypass this temporarily and then get rid of it (from bug reports ive read it seems deleting gnome-do will work)
After booting, When prompted to enter a password to unlock my login keyring, I tried to enter in my password, but it won't let me. I can move my cursor but everything else is frozen.
I tried to access the terminal by using ctrl + alt + f2, I entered my login and password from there and it worked, I just don't know what to do afterwards. don't know what other information I can provide other than the fact that I am using Ubuntu 10.04
using ubuntu 10.10.. firsly it was asking me for password when i open my computer but i disabled that option and now it doesnt ask me.. but there is something else.. the desktop appear.. and i receive a message like i have to enter password to unlock the login keyring something like that.. can somebody explain me why? what can i do to stop this? i can actually use the computer open folders do anything but the password box keep appearing.

I have never changed either password, so there is no "old" password to resort to.How do I fix this? I am not opposed to deleting whatever data is encrypted by this keyring. Also, how might this have happened? This could be a bug; are there any relevant log files or such?

At first I thought it was the wireless network problem, so I already checked my wireless as "Available to all users", but this didn't stop the prompt. Doing a little bit more of research, if I cancel the dialog without entering my password, I can access the web without any problems (so again it is not the wireless connection problem), but then if I try to launch Gwibber I get the prompt again (two times actually, if I press Cancel the first time), or if I launch Empathy as well (three times in a row if I press Cancel; probably it has to do with the fact that I'm logged into 3 different accounts, facebook, gmail and hotmail?).
Furthermore, this two nice pieces of sofware offer almost zero configuration options to the user, at least GUI-wise, so there is no checkbox for "Available to all users" or anything simmilar for the matter. For instance, in gwibber I have spell-check turned on by default and there is no way to turn it off. So I guess I'll have to tweak some configuration file in some obscure folder,
After installing ubuntu 10.10 on pc i had it running fine for roughly 2 weeks. i have selected automatic login so i do not need to mess about logging in etc, but recently my pc asks for my password to unlock keyring once it shows my desktop.

After some searching on the forums, it appears that this is because I set my laptop to auto-login. Am I missing something here, but what does auto-login have to do the the keyring? Why do I even need to enter that password? I understand that many Ubuntu users are picky about security, but why isn't their any option to disable this? It's almost as bad as UAC from Vista, which is one of the reasons I'm dual-booting Ubuntu in the first place. To eliminate the prompt for the keyring password, am I going to miss out on anything? In other words, just what does the keyring do? If it matters, I don't use Evolution e-mail (I just use old-fashioned web mail). To my knowledge the only passwords stored on my machine are that for my wireless network and whatever website passwords my browser stores.

I suppose that can be considered a good thing, since I made the completely transfer to Ubuntu three months ago and everything's been running completely smoothly. Anyway, security is a pretty big thing to me. I usually change the root password, take sudo off (and default gksu, not gksudo), encrypt my hard drives, etc... One thing I also do is create a separate password for my login keyring. I don't mind having to enter one extra password at login, but it started prompting two times, and now three. I've been trying to find the package that installs the gnome keyring manager to see if I can't tell it to autologin(one of the downsides to installing from scratch is finding the useful apps)

Am I doing something wrong? Does something have to be done differently in LXDE?
How do I disable showing Usernames? I want to be prompted for BOTH un and pw. If it is necessary I could just change it so that it boots into a fullscreen terminal so that you would have to input "startx" and then username and password. Or I could just change it through gui or 3rd party software.
