I have stop using debian some months but I decide to come back. Yesterday I have make a clean install of debian squeeze. The network manager never rember my wireles password. Every time I open the pc it ask me the keyring password and the wireles password. Why network manager can't rember my passwords? Also I have a strange problem when I try to gain root acces. If I try to open synaptic or to mount a ntfs partion it ask me the root password but every time I type my root pass it says that its incorrect but I am absolutely sure that I type my root pass correct. Also if I try to gain root acces from terminal with su its became the same thing but after some tries it takes my pass as corect. So every time I type my root pass from a gui like gksu it always says that is incorect but if I type my pass in terminal it take it correct after some tries. In the past I have again installed the debian from the same cd on the same pc but I had never those problems. What can be wrong?

Ever since I started using KDE as in 4.2, I have been doing this regularly. When I startup KDE, I open Dolphin and click and mount each partition with root pass. I thought it might be some KDE issue as is the ever developing code and will be fine in future updates. But now I'm in 4.2.1 and it still exists. Upon inquiring fellow users on other distros, I have come to believe this is a *Fedora only* issue now. [URL].
View 8 Replies View RelatedI have done a clean intall of Ubuntu 9.10 (K. Koala). Got everything up and working with 2 users, me with full privelleges and my son with a ltd account. Everything was working well so I moved the PC to my sons room, connected it to his TV and was able to log in as both users.
I changed the display settings on his account as when using the 1360 x 768 (16:9) setting the top bar and the last icons on the screen weren't visable, the desktop also started about 2inches from the left hand side of the screen, so changed them to 800 x 600 and whole desktop visable.
I switched user and did the same to my desktop. Then switched the pc off. I come back to it now, boot it up, get to the user/password screen, select me and enter my password, the screen flickers, little Ubuntu drum roll, and I return to the login screen. So I try my sons login, same result. No password authenticaion message, so I guess this isn't the issue. Surley just changing display settings can't have this effect?
The wifi is not working for me. The scan detects the wifi signal but fails to connect. The wifi I have requires WEP authentication, even if I give the right passphrase it fails to connect. The problem is happening in SUSE 11.2 installed in HP dv7-3065dx laptop.
View 4 Replies View RelatedSince moving from centos 5.6 to fedora 15 a week ago I have been unable to get Last Pass firefox addon to work correctly. Those of you familiar to last pass will probably have seen the error message before in a variety of situations, namely "An error occurred while attempting to contact the server. Please check your internet connection." This error appears as soon as you log in (which it does manage to do) but instantly loses authentication - seems like the cookie expires almost instantly and therefore all saved sites/passwords require re-authentication with LP to use.
No network configuration has altered since the OS change, but F15 comes with firefox 4 rather than 3.6.x in centos. I know the last pass plugin should work with FF4 and have read suggestions about SSL/TLS version settings (which are 3.0 and 1.0 respectively) and disabling SELinx. Neither of these have made any difference.
I have been using Fedora 11 for some time and I ran into a major problem today. I had installed some packages by yum (especially bacula-related) and erased them. Now I can't use gnome-terminal as root. Quote:
[webman@localhost ~]$ su -
Password:
su: incorrect password
The password is correct, but it is not accepted as such.
how come when I install usting text mode I can log in as root but when I use GUI I cannot it will not recognize the root password?

I have been trying to connect my TV to my ubuntu desktop for a while now. When i start up, the image from the desktop is shown fine on the TV right up until the ubuntu startup image. At that point the image disappears and doesnt return.GRUB and all the startup text is shown fine on the TV but after ubuntu starts, the tv just says "no signal".
Im using a ATI Radeon X800 "Old crap" craphics card. I assume it is because my graphics card does not have the drivers for it installed properly, so i tried that through the package manager along with the catalyst control center. When i tried to open catalyst it gives the message "There was a problem initializing Catalyst Control Center linux edition. It could be caused by the following No ATI graphics driver is installed or the ATI driver is not functioning properly install the ATI driver appropriate for your ATI hardware, or configure using ATI config" When calling aticonfig from the terminal, it says No supported adapters detected.the tv does not appear in displays either. My Medion 17' screen is properly identified in Display though (It does not say unknown or anything)
I can write to CD+R no problem but when I try to write to DVD it does not work. When I put the DVD in the drive and go to computer and click open I get a message " unable to mount location, no media in drive." If I have a blank CD+R it says blank CD in drive but with the DVD I am having problems. I have way to many family pictures and I'd like to put it on 2 DVDs instead of 12 CD+Rs.

There were no network connections available, even though I have two that can be used when I switch to Windows. After two hours I got tired of trying to fix the problem and rebooting to no avail, so i uninstalled and installed Ubuntu instead. I've still got the same problem, and after hitting a hole in my wall and shaving my head, I have no idea how to fix the problem. How do i get Ubuntu to recognize my wireless network?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have installed the LG BE08LU20 on five Centos servers during the past three months. Two HP ML115, two Dell T110 and mine which is an older Dell Dimension. All except one of the Dell T110 work fine. The BE08LU20 drive is used for 50Gb backups using mondoarchive. On the problem machine which has just been installed from scratch again, it will quite happily mount cd and dvds but not 50Gb BD-RE. I take the same BD-RE disk which it objects to and load it on my identical be08lu20 on a Dell Dimension with Centos 5.5 and it is recognized and allows writing. I swapped my working drive for the problem one but it makes no difference. The 'faulty' drive works perfectly correctly on mine. The OS is Centos 5.5 I have used the same DVD to install three machines with it. Two work including mine, but not the T110. Another customer with T110 also has a be08lu20 and mondoarchive with bd-re disks and theirs worked from the start. They have Centos 5.3 and up-to-date patches, but it should make no difference I've tried both usb and e-sata the result is the same. The centos 5.5 has kernel 2.6.18.194-el5PAE
If I load a bd-re disk in the drive and mount it - this is what I get
[root@localhost log]# mount /dev/scd0 /mnt/cdrom
mount: you must specify the filesystem type
This is the log

There was another problem with this particular machine. I could install Centos, configure Samba and join the users to the domain without a hiccup. Then in the small hours of the morning (not always the same time) it just locked up, no kbd, no mouse, no display, no disk active, no network. Only solution was switch off and it would come up again quite happily with nothing logged and run without a problem for another 20-24 hours. Dell eventually agreed to replace the motherboard. I installed Centos again from scratch. It's been fine all week. The blu-ray problem has been there from the start, and has NOT been solved by the new motherboard.
So the title pretty much sums it up. She is running a pangolin performance which came with lucid while I am running a pangolin performance which came with karmic and i upgraded to lucid (bought before her). For some reason hulu always worked for me, so I was trying to fix it on her computer too, but somehow one of the commands I told her to run made her computer not be able to recognize that her built in webcam exists anymore.
The reason that this is so hard is that I don't remember which commands I told her to run, but one of them was the instructions from post #5 on this page: [URL]. But I don't know how messing with flash stuff could have possibly screwed up her computer detecting her webcam. The drivers are definitely installed for webcam, however when she 'locate uvcvideo' it tells her that permission is denied, so the problem might be that her computer isn't giving her the permission to access the webcam drivers to use the webcam, just an idea.
Environment: A 32-bit kernel RHEL5.3 system running on a virtual machine. The root(/) filesystem is on an LV.
Issue: Unable to resize the FS after extending the root LV since it is mounted. After extending the LV, online resizing of the FS was not supported and the root filesystem could not be unmounted while it was in use. On rebooting, I got a kernel panic error. In runlevel 1, I couldn't run chroot, couldn't find the /etc/fstab, root FS could not be mounted, fsck did not run (tried block 31 for second copy of superblock using dd count=1 bs=4k skip=31 seek=1 if=/dev/sda2 of=/dev/sda2), couldn't find any rpm on installation media to install unix-utils rpm. On running commands in runlevel 1,
I got the following output.
I've tried to run a Clonezilla VM using vmplayer. All works fine except when I get to the cloning section. I have three partitions on the HD; partition A, B and C.
A = Partition to clone
B = Partiton onto which the clone image of PartA is to be saved
C = OS partition which is running the Clonezilla VM.
I would like to save the partition as an image but when it actually comes to the nitty gritty of partition cloning Clonezilla does not recognise PartA or PartB. I get error massages along the lines of "No unmounted partitions found." When I drop into a shell prompt the fdisk -l output shows nothing. However, running from the liveCD it recognises both these along with PartC. Is there a way of carrying out the cloning using this method by tweaking vmplayer settings or is the project just not possible ?
I am having a problem recognizing the full 24GB memory on a dell PowerEdge R610 system I just purchased. This is the Fedora 11 preview version, uname -a returns this:Linux comp1 2.6.29.3-140.fc11.x86_64 #1 SMP Tue May 12 10:44:27 EDT 2009 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux
this is the off the shelf box from Dell and it is a quad-core with 24GB memory, but the OS can only recognize about 3GB, here is the free -m
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 2980 607 2373 0 24 176
the system is otherwise functioning normal. how to get the full 24GB of mem recognized?
Im having a serious issue with booting ubuntu 10.04, the issue being it wont boot up at all, after working so well for so long (i suspect some recent dodgy system updates are responsible) so I decided to just reinstall ubuntu from scratch again but wanted to retrieve some important files from my root device. So I am running the live desktop and I can see my previous filesystems under places but cannot mount or open my original root device where the files I want to recover are located, I receive this error msg:"Unable to mount 77 GB Filesystem.
View 2 Replies View Relatedhave made VLC my only audio player, and while it does lodge itself in the right-hand corner of the taskbar (and displays the song title) I find it quite irritating to have to right click then scroll up to skip songs etc. I did a random Google search and came across an old program called Music Applet, which is now under development by the Panflute community. After a full night and half of this afternoon downloading various libraries, I finally managed to ./configure, make, and make install. However, now that it seems to be finished (oh, BTW, for some reason I was unable to "install," it wouldn't recognize the command, so I went directly from "make" to "make install," not sure if that's affecting this or not) I can't seem to figure out how to add Panflute to my panel. My ls in panflute-0.6.2 reads:

View 6 Replies View RelatedMy computer developed a new trick tonight. 4 times in the last 2 hours it's booted & ran fine...for about 30 minutes or so. Then some apps become unstable & crash, and some don't notice anything wrong. Firefox keeps running fine, but if I have a nautilus window open, the next time you click anywhere, it crashes. So, try to restart the machine & it comes back with the "kernel panic -not syncing vfs unable to mount root FS on unknown block" message. The first time I restarted it, I managed to get to a root terminal & fsck the drive. It found 2 errors that it fixed, supposedly. The next collection of restarts, it would just go through bios, then grub, then hang on the error.
So, power down the machine first & then boot it....magically, I'm back to the desktop again for another 30-45 minutes. Anyone have any idea what's going on? It's been fine since the day mint was released...and the only system change was plugging my 2nd monitor back in 3 days ago. Why would it go kukoo in the last 2 hours? The machine is a quad core intel with 4 gigs of ram, Asus mobo and a 250gig sata drive for the system drive.
