Ubuntu :: System Clock Suddenly Losing 1min Per Hour?

Today I updated a bunch of packages, rebooted. I run lucid 10.04 x86_64, originally Xubuntu but now gnome since I cannot make xfce4-panel tasklist behave with compiz. Anyway, by the end of the day my clock was 10min off. If I use ntpdate at about 10min intervals I see things like:
$ sudo ntpdate time.xxx.xxx.de 1 Jun 18:37:02 ntpdate[9734]: step time server xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx offset 10.043055 sec
I have deleted /etc/adjtime and touch'd a blank file to no avail.
Is this problem serious? Is it likely software or hardware? Is running an ntp daemon the right solution or would it be masking a new software or hardware problem that appeared today?

I have cron jobs running and the timing is critical, because I'm running Nessus scans on production servers. If I hit them at the wrong time, I'm toast. But when I check the cron log, I see that it is an hour off. Here is the output for the command "clock":

Cron thinks it is 4:00 p.m., but it's really 3:00 p.m. How do I tell Cron what time it is? (Stopping and restarting the crond service did not change it.)

I recently decided to try KDE4 and would like the change the clock on the panel to display 12 hour format and not the default 24hour format but i can not find where to change this option currently the clock looks like the attached picture. Gnome has this option and I would like to see it in KDE if it exists in the default clock. I am willing to replace the default KDE clock with a seperate widget if one exists for this.

After daylight savings time, my squeeze installation's clock failed to adjust. I've tried to change this in the bios, but it always resets itself.

Yesterday I configured an NTP Server, and synched a sever with my NTP Server. Now some how my Client clock jumped one hour ahead at 12:00 AM, while HW Clock and NTP Server Clock remained.

Very simple question but very frustrating as none of the other threads/bug reports/whatever have had quite the same problem. I want gnome clock to display the time in 12 hour format. The suggested solution is something like right-click the clock -> Preferences and somewhere there will be an option to choose 12/24 hour time. Problem is I don't have that option.
The help has a note that 12 hour time "is not shown if your session language does not use the 12 hour clock" but this really shouldn't be a problem? My language/locale/city, everything I can think of, it's all some variation of en_GB, UK English, Brisbane, Australia: all places which should allow the option of 12 hour clock! So why don't I have that option?

If I set the clock to speak the time, I get this when it tries: starting kttsd failed. I've looked at the various posts, but haven't yet found an actual solution. I've tried to run kttsmgr, but for some reason the "run" dialog doesn't seem to do anything - no error, nothing. Type kttsmgr, press enter since there is not obvious other way to execute the command, and nothing happens.
Is this a module that does not come with KDE? And I give - I can't find time format anywhere. How do you change the clock that appears in the lower right corner to 12 hour instead of what appears to be default 24 hour? I don't see it in "Digital Clock Settings", and I don't see it in System Settings - Date & Time. This is a clean install of slackware 13.1, and whatever version of KDE comes with it.

I installed Ubuntu 10.10 a while back using Wubi. I have it installed alongside Windows XP. Just yesterday the power went out in my house while I was booted into Ubuntu. When I turned my computer back on I still have the option to select Ubuntu or Windows, but now when I select Ubuntu I get right into a grub prompt. Grub used to give me a list of kernals but now it just sits waiting for commands.

When I boot into Debian (lenny) my clock is always 4 hours slow. Whether I set it manually, or set it to get it's time from the network, the next time I boot into debian, it's back to being 4 hours slow.

Now that I'm able to connect to Internet via my MC760 wireless modem on /dev/ttyUSB0, I am losing time!
I have lost 5 minutes while online for 1/2 hr.
Yes ntpd is running. What is strange is that right now, I'm in town at coffee shop and using wireless. I'm not losing time at all. This isn't the first time I've noticed the loss of time. It's been happening every since I was able to connect with the usb modem. I just had to come to town and use wireless to see if the problem existed while on wireless (b43). While being connected via the MC760, I've also noticed that the cpu temp rises and the fan runs quite a bit more than when not connected via the MC760. Just ran into an uncomfortable problem. I usually never save any documents on my machine, and keep all my stuff on an external USB hard disk. (an 80GB TrekStor DS microdisk q.u)
Well yesterday this disk just would not mount.
Read through related posts but nothing seemed to work. Even tried it on a Windows machine.
Tried TestDisk utility. Found nothing wrong with the drive, but still could not repair the MBR.log code...
Palimpsest Utility recognized the drive, but just will not let me do anything with it except format it.
How can i repair the partitions and MBR without losing all my data?

I just switched over to Lubuntu, and so far, it's been great.It's rendering quite well with my laptop, even though the fan is constantly running.I've had some small annoyances that I haven't been able to figure out. How do I get the power button and/or other related actions to the 'start' menu? Is there a way to drag and drop applets like in Ubuntu? How do I setup default brightness like in Ubuntu? I have been useing Ubuntu for 1-2years now. Lately I've been having some troubles with my wireless Internet connection, almost every 1min i disconnect and connect again few sec after and thats like hell if you try to fx. update. I have 85-92% signal so thats not my problem.I use Ubuntu 10.04 and the standard network manager. I'm connected to a netgear router and my computer is a acer aspire one.

I need to change the time displayed in the task bar from a 24 hour clock to a 12 hour format. I could not find the relevant settings in OpenSuse 11.2 and same is the case for 11.3 as well.
how to make the change? I have tried System Settings ---> Computer Administration ---> Date & Time; but I was not able to make the desired change.
Similarly, I have a digital clock widget that shows GMT + 5.5 hours and I need to change that to 12 hour format as well.

I triple boot with XP on the first partition, sidux on the second and third and Ubuntu on the fourth. sidux controls grub2. When I boot into XP or Ubuntu, my clock gets set ahead 4 hours to UTC time (I'm on Eastern daylight time).
Is there a way for all three OSs to display the right time?

Wrong system clock; Right hardware clock. 'date' and 'hwclock --show' show big differences in time. Hardware clock keeps the correct time, but 'date', the system clock, doesn't (often wrong in a matter of hours). So I'm sure it is the problem of the kernel. I'm tired of synching hardware clock with the system clock all the time. How do I get Ubuntu to use the hardware clock instead of its own in the first place?

Try as I might I cannot seem to get the system clock to display local time. It looks like it's stuck on GMT. In the System>Administration>Time and Date I have my local time zone set correctly and also set to update automatically with an appropriate time server selected. It still displays my local time +5 hours (I'm central time, USA).

I'm completely new to Linux. I'm having the hardest time trying to do the simplest things. I'm using Kopete and I was wondering if I can put the icon on the system taskbar by the clock? I can't drag it there, won't work. I also tried to right click the taskbar and open 'add new items' but Kepete doesn't show on the list.

I restored my .kde directory after changing some stuff unrelated to my clock and now all plasma clocks are exactly 5 hours faster than my system time (the correct time).I've set the time zone for Date&Time in System Settings properly and that's working well and I've ALSO gone into the time zone settings for the plasma widgets and switched between UTC and Local manually but that doesn't do anything.

I've been frustrated with several problems I've been experiencing with Karmic Koala. The one I'll mention in this post is the fact that it randomly decides to adjust the system clock ahead 6 hours. I believe this began happening when I set the location for the system time that displays in the top panel. I'm guessing that the 6 hours is the fact that I'm in the US Central Time zone.

I've set-up dual boot on my laptop. Ubuntu installed first, then Windows 7 so it uses Grub2 to control the booting on start-up. I've noticed that my system clock goes out by an hour on both OS's, I change the clock to correct time & on reboot the time is usually (not always straight away) an hour behind. Has anyone else had this problem & know how to fix it?

While dual-booting Windows and Linux, Linux sets the system time to UTC, so Windows thinks it's midnight near mid-morning. Is there any other way to tell Windows to use UTC? I've seen the registry tweak proposed here and other places. Unlike FC14, in FC15 there are very limited options available in Date and Time settings.
I want to see day of the week, date and time with seconds in my clock panel.
I was able to get first two using "gnome-tweak-tool".
But I'm not able to display seconds in the clock.

the time on system clock given with 'date' command keeps moving forward about 1 minute for every hour of realtime. The box is up all the time so this is not an issue with motherboard battery. An equivalent box with the same hardwre/OS and applications doesn't have the same level of drift. I'm not sure what else this could be.Both boxes are Centos 5.2 64-bit.
