i couldnt run ubuntu after installing kubuntu desktop , it stops on the last step before opening the login screen i clicked ctrl+alt+F1 and login in terminal i typed xinit the result is as follow :

However, each time I go back to windows, windows decides to destroy grub and it stops loading, then I have to use a rescue disk and do a grub-install again. It's annoying to have to do this everytime I go to windows. Is there a way to avoid windows to destroy grub? Or install grub on a place windows cannot touch?

it goes on loading ubuntu and then after when i am suppose to get my home screen with bird background to view, monitor stops getting signal.
i tried both 32 bit and 64 bit
ubuntu-8.04.3-desktop-amd64.iso
ubuntu-8.04.3-desktop-i386.iso
but no luck where as 9.10 works like a charm and i have no issue in working with it.
but because of some external H/W drievrs i need to stick to old karnel version which supports 2.6.30 or lower
currently using a CompaQ Altec Lansing laptop,which came with Windows 7 Pre-installed. It is the 64 bit version. The same day I got it I got Ubuntu on it as well, also in 64 bit.
I have had no problems with either of them. What I would like to do, is install Kubuntu 10.04 64 bit along side Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Is it possible? Or would i be stuck having to make a Wubi?

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have windows 7 installed on my copmuter and I ran the alternate disc cause the live disc didn't work for me. So installing was smmoth and I did everything right excpet for the grub part. It asked to be a master loader or something and I said yes. After restarting I see the grub menu but I only see two ubuntus(recovery mode) on the list and 2 test thingys ( memory test) So I go to the ubuntu tab and I get kubuntu ( as ecpected). Right now I am using kubuntu and it is fine but?

I installed a Ktu 10.04 - 64b yesterday on a lenovo TP edge. So far, everything works well, put i cannot install de flashplayer for firefox nor chrome. Found a lot of info about installing it on Kntu 8 and 9 (i had one and it worked well), but it doesn't work. I tried downloading the .tar file from the adobe site, and then creating the pligins folder on .mozilla and saving the file there, but it doesn't workd.

how you install Oracle Instant Client on Kubuntu.I have Oracle XE and Lazarus installed on a KB machine, but Lazarus can't connect because it's missing the file "libociei.so".I found that file in the Oracle Instant Client which I downloaded and unzipped from Oracle.com. However, I have no idea how to install it. Normally you issue a "sudo" command of some sort. I can't just copy the files because I don't have privileges to copy to the system folders, and don't know where to copy them to anyway. The only online help I've found is for installing PHP with it, which I'm not interested in.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Windows 7 on my laptop and am attempting to install Ubuntu 11.04 from CD.I boot from the disk drive, follow the prompts and eventually get to the screen where I can set how much space I want to give to the Ubuntu partition vs the Windows partition. My hard disk is 250GB, so I reduce the Windows one to 100GB (currently has 80GB of files on it) and set the Ubuntu one to 130GB (the other 20GB is split between the two hidden Windows 7 partitions).
I then click to continue and the progress bar for the install starts up but doesn't move, it just sits at 0%. I realised that the dialogue box underneath the progress bar can still be expanded and asks me to test using -n and -s, but when I type either of these into the box and hit return, nothing happens. I have checked my download of the .iso I used using WinMD5Sum and the hash matches up. I have already tried installing from USB but this threw an error, hence using CD. My laptop is a Dell Inspiron 1546 running Win 7 Home Premium 64 bit Processor: AMD Turion X2 Dual-Core Mobile RM-75 2.20GHz
I have the driver cd of a frontech pen tablet which is for windows (there are also driver files for mac os in the cd). On Kubuntu, I am trying to use the ndiswrapper -i driver_file.inf command but there are many .inf files on the cd. I am having trouble recognizing which file is the driver file for the pen tablet.

This is an attempt to install stretch over the top of Windows 10 on a Toshiba Radius 15 with 2 each USB2 ports and 2 each USB3 ports, and no RJ-45. Its wireless is based upon the Intel 7265. Just before the presentation of the wireless list, the system reports the need to install non-free:

and asks for media. Whether I respond yes or no, the driver selection screen comes up. [I have not been able to find those four specific files on the Internet.The network card screen comes up, I select the Intel recommended firmware iwlsifi, but the page just recreates itself and waits for a new selection. If I select either 'none' or 'not listed', the installation fails saying there is no network card.I have obtained from Intel their suggestion as of Aug 2015: iwlwifi-7265-ucode-25.30.14.0.tgz.I placed this on a USB stick in a subdirectory labeled 'firmware'. This was built from Windows 7 on a FAT32 file system.
There is also a Dynadock docking station that connects to the Toshiba via a USB3 cable. Besides video, USB,and audio, this has an Ethernet port. I have tried this connected to the laptop but it also requires a driver. I have placed that driver on the firmware directory of the USB also.
Are the four files listed above somehow inside the iwlwifi driver tgz?Is there a way to get the docking station drive to load so I can use its Ethernet port?
I have used Rufus to build the stretch USB from Windows. I do have a a Linux box I built with the same USB. I would use it but so far, I only have a command line on it and I have not figured out how to access debian.org to download the installation files nor how to put that on the stick.
Im having an annoying problem here, after the reinstallation of opensuse, bluetooth works fine, i can connect my cell phone and logitech mouse normally, as soon as i install the bcm43xx from the scrtipt included in /usr/sbin/ bluetooth stops connecting to devices, it can find tem when searching but the forward button is dimmed.
