File downloads would reach some percentage of completion, then B/s would slowly reduce, to zero. Upgrade would halt until manually aborted. Solution was to manually download 5 timezone files and install them in a directory repository. File download did not specify just the timezone file, but also a part of the directory. Could this be part of the problem? example: ./rpm/i586/timezone-2011d-0.2.1.i586.rpm instead of just the file name.System is a Dell 3000 (Pentium 4, 512MB memory).
I've just installed F11 (x86_64) on my computer. I've been using x86_64 since Fedora 7 and normally I use a manually installed i386 firefox/thunderbird. This time I've tried to do the same using Fireox 3.5b4 but I got many troubles. The last error I got is:

Tonight I installed ubuntu 10.10 (32 bit) on an external usb harddrive with a dvd I burned and I used my older desktop. I disconnected all internal and external drives first so everything had to be put on the usb drive I selected (only option available). I used the option to load extra software, use the entire hard drive, and let the software do it's thing. I basically had no options where to put things and it didn't have much choice.
When I boot the usb drive on my laptop (win 7 64 bit) by telling the bios to boot to it first... I get an error: modprobe: FATAL Could not load /lib/modules 2.6.35-22 generic modules No such file or directory. This message appears twice and then it does boot into ubuntu and seems to work fine. I'm new to this OS so that is an uneducated guess but the things I have done seem to be working. So exactly what is this error referring too? Is there a way to fix the problem or do I just ignore it.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI have an Acer 9410Z laptop that I believe is running the Maverick Meerkat version of Ubuntu Studio. I just did an upgrade using Synaptic. I get to GRUB, but When I try to boot 2.6.35-22 (or the recovery mode or a real time kernel I had installed )I get the error:
INIT: Failed to spawn ureadahead main process. No such file or directory I then get the Ubuntu Studio splash screen for 2 seconds but then instead of a normal boot I end up in the terminal.
I just updated from 9.04 to 9.10 (it's a long story, and I still can't go beyond 2.30).The update got rid of WICD, which is what I used and installed network-manager. Network-manager was not working at all, so I uninstalled it again and installed WICD. I could connect perfectly and had no problems.However, now the computer hangs during boot, saying that init can't start network-manager. I assume that something went wrong during the uninstalling process, since it wasn't updated.
This is the message: init: Failed to spawn network-manager main process: unable to execute: No such file or directory.
So how do I update it or manually change it so it stops requesting network-manager?

I am new to Linux and I wanted to setup a dedicated game server on my notebook.
I've installed Ubuntu 9.04. I than created a directory named /home/phlex/kfserver. I downloaded the application binary from Steam. I changed the file permission with chmod +x hldsupdatetool.bin and now the file attributes are -rwxr-xr-x.
The problem is when I try to run the binary file. If I type ./hldsupdatetool.bin I get an error message "-bash: ./hldsupdatetool.bin: No such file or directory. It seems the OS can't find the file. I've downloaded the file several times thinking it may have been corrupt but it's not. I can delete the file, I can rename it and so the file is there. Sometimes Linux can be aggravating to use.

It logins properly when in failsafe mode. I'm using Lucid, and this happens after the hard drive load is shown in the splash screen following the login screen. To get things started off I did $ gnome-open /home/user (my name where user is) and it opens my user home directory. But when I get to adding downloads to the end of it it gives me this $ gnome-open /home/user/downloads Error showing url: Error stating file '/home/User/downloads': No such file or directory As far as I can tell there is most obviously a downloads directory in my user folder. I also get this error when trying to open any other home folder, like music, or pictures.
