Ubuntu :: Specify The Directory To Drop The Files?

Jul 8, 2010

I ran the Oracle .deb, but it didn't give me the chance to specify where to put the files.I have an SSD for my databases, so /usr/* isn't where I want Oracle. I was able to run the uninstall, but I've not found a way to specify the directory to drop the files.

Ubuntu :: Unable To Connect To The Phone Via USB On Xubuntu Box To Drop Files?

Feb 6, 2010

I'd like to put a few MP3s on it but I'm not able to connect to the phone via USB on my xubuntu box to drop files onto it. It works on my company computer (Windows XP) so I know it's not a problem with the phone.

I'm still somewhat of an ubuntu noob so it may be a quick fix that I have overlooked/don't understand yet. Once I plug the phone in to the box, I tell Android to enable USB storage and mount the drive. Here's the error I get afterwards:

Quote:

Failed to mount "3G Removable Volume".

mount: wrong fs type, bad option, bad superblock on /dev/sdc1,
missing codepage or helper program, or other error
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so.

Here's the settings set in Storage Device Manager:

Mountpoint: /media/sdc1
Type: vfat
Options: defaults,users,utf8,mark=007,uid=1000,user

Is there a config change I need to make in Storage Device Manager to make this work, or am I missing something else?

OpenSUSE :: VLC Integration In 11.4 - Cannot Drag And Drop Files

Mar 12, 2011

With a default 11.4 (64bit) installation with Gnome - and using the 11.4 one click installer on
VideoLAN - VLC: Free streaming and multimedia solutions for all OS! - the 11.3 integration seems to have worked better.

The first issue is that it's no longer automatically integrated into the right click context menu of movie files.

This integration happened in 11.3.

The second, which I think is user error but I really cannot get it to work is dragging and dropping files does not work.

-> Open Nautilus
-> Navigate to folder with movie files
-> Open VLC
-> Click on a file in Nautilus and try and drag it onto VLC

The VLC is hidden during the file click and drag, so a drag to the bottom panel is required to try and activate VLC - however, VLC is never activated. I have tried different positions on screen but still over the VLC entry to try and activate it, but nothing happens.

This same sequence on 11.3 correctly activates VLC so I can drag and drop.

A workaround on 11.4 is to make VLC "Always on top" via the right click menu on the VLC title bar.

Ubuntu :: Clear List Of Recently Opened Files In 'Location' Drop-down Box In File-Open?

Apr 13, 2011

I realise KPDF is quite old now but as this issue may recur when I move to a newer distro (well, newer than Hardy) with Okular I thought I'd better ask.I use Gnome, but prefer KPDF to evince when viewing PDF files. However, KPDF's "Open Recent" list behaves very oddly - there's no apparent way to clear it, and items which were on the list one day aren't on it another day (coinciding with old items reappearing on the list).

Is there any way to clear this list?Similarly, is there any way to clear the list of recently opened files in the "Location" drop-down box in File-Open? (which also seems to mysteriously lose list items inbetween reboots).

I would rather not write a bash script. Is there an easier way to do this? I was looking into some commands like find and grep.

Under upload's and download's I have identical category subfolders like mp3's, movies, software etc. in both. As the guy's upload, I would like to create a line crontab where I can move all the content under /FTP-Shared/upload/mp3/* older than 14 day's to FTP-Shared/downloads/mp3/ recursively (Like in cp command), but the timestamp must be searched on the first directory and not sub files example: /mp3/Club Dance/CD1/Hallo world.mp3This is how far I got:[root@clients ~]# /usr/bin/find /FTP_Shared/upload/Mp3s/ -depth -mindepth 1 -mtime +14 -type d -exec mv -f {} /FTP_Shared/download/Mp3s/ ;This command moves the directory and files, but it is not recursively

Server :: UShare - Directory Recursion And Symbolic Links / "drill Down" Directory Structure To List Files?

Jan 22, 2010

I have uShare 1.1a setup to talk to my XBox 360. If I share a directory that has no subdirectories, the video files display on the XBox. However, most of my files are in sub-directories on a different partition - I don't really want to copy them to the share, but uShare doesn't seem to recognise any sub-directories or files contained therein.

I have tried setting up symbolic soft links directly to the video files (although this is a pain, it is better than moving the files)...

Code:
ln -s /home/jonftp/TV-Shows/Buffy/Season-1/Buffy-101.avi /home/share/Buffy-101.avi
...but these don't show up on the XBox either.

How can I get uShare to "drill down" the directory structure to list the files or how can I get uShare to follow symbolic links?

For now i am using scp to transfer podcasts from server to desktop then to player. The problem is the path to the directory of one of the podcasts is /home/user/gpodder-downloads/The BILL&TIMMY Show Podcast.

whenever i try and run my scp command it fails because it thinks that TIMMY is a script i want to run in the background. I have tried to back-slash escape the character, i've tried single quoting and double quoting the character and i still get the same problem. as it sits now i have to move all podcasts to another directory and then transfer them to my desktop...but i would like to transfer the podcasts without un-necessary steps.

Code:

Code:

Doesn't give me much any information at to syntax or usage. I'm sure there is something in bash or the standard shell, I just can't seem to find it.
