View 6 Replies View Relatedwhile trying to get a game to work on wine I was surprised to find out that the wine version that ships with sid is 1.0.1 released in October 2005. So I installed the latest release I found at [URL] like this :
dpkg -i wine_1.1.42~winehq1-1_amd64.deb
The install failed, I think because I hadn't remove the old wine version, and that's when the joy-ride started. Impossible to remove wine to restart properly. (apt-get remove libwine wine and apt-get -f install didn't) After some googling I tried this :
dpkg -i --force-depends wine_1.1.42~winehq1-1_amd64.deb
This did install the wine version I wanted, and the game ran fine after that. However the result was a borked apt-get. Tried to remove wine again with the above commands, resulting in apt-get failing to do so because it tried installing wine-unstable and reported errors similar to these : E: Could not perform immediate configuration on 'wine-unstable'. see man 5 apt.conf under APT::Immediate-Configure for details. View 1 Replies View Relatedmaybe my questions sounds funny: i'm looking for a very small (or better as small as necessary) distro which runs in a virtual box an starts wine. The reason is: we have new laptops in my school runnig windows7 64bit home and we have some software which runs only on WinXP. So why not take a virtualbox wich runs wine to start the old Software?
View 2 Replies View RelatedLot of questions about WINE... When I'm done I'm going to make a HOWTO so that others can do what I did It's hard work, but I'm nearly done. The last problem I'm having is the WINE menu on GNOME won't show up after a install of WINE from a .deb package (it usually does). This was after I compiled WINE from source and removed it with "make uninstall" and "rm -rf /.wine".So now I installed the WINE from a deb package and the Wine menu entry is not showing up.I've tried re-installing Wine and rebooting my PC but nothing seems to work.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a problem running a game on a fresh Slackware64 install.
Slack version is 13.37
I've followed alien bobs instructions for a multilib environment from here:[url]
And then used sbopkg to download and compile wine version 1.2.2, which went through just fine.
After that I grabbed cabextract from sbopkg and ran this: wget [url] sh winetricks d3dx9 To get the DX9.
But, when I try to run the game, this is the error I get:
Code:
The game it self ran perfectly on the 32 bit version of Slackware, tested with 13.0. So now I think I'm missing some libs or something, but I have no clue which.
I don't know if it's just my system, but after applying the latest Wine update, the mouse cursor in Wine windows is now purple/magenta/pink, whatever. Not a big problem, just annoying. I've looked through the various config files in ~home and /usr/share/wine, and can't find any parameter that might even remotely address this.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI am new to fedora and installed wine to see if I could get the sony reader software working (required to access sony bookstore from my sony ereader). Well the program did not work though it did create icons on my desktop. wine kept crashing and I said lets just get rid of it. I uninstalled wine via yum remove and nothing appeared to happen so I did rpm -qa |grep wine and saw lots of stuff. So I simply did yum remove wine* and then a rpm -qa |grep wine was empty. however wine is still under applications on my desktop and still has a category for programs--reader. I should also mention that while wine was installed I attempted to remove the reader via the wine uninstalller but a) wine gave a message of a core crash and b) all the uninstaller did was give me the option to reinstall the reader program. so now when I attempt to open an epub it tries with the sony reader software. I know I can just right click to use another program but for now I want wine gone completely from my pc and the sony program gone.

Then i realized that koffice 2.x is already available which seems to be called "koffice-kde4" in the repositories... But koffice-kde4 doesn't have kformula included - where is it?
how i could install the complete koffice 2?

Updating from 9.10 to 10.04 LTS with some 'stop'
new kernel not in use, and grub setup, using 'local'
the now new 10.04 LTS as it calls itself is loading and large parts working.
I just installed Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (Lucid Lynx) Desktop Edition Gnome.
I was a Vim user in Windows. I heard that Ubuntu comes with a compact version of Vim called vim-tiny.
I wonder if this latest version of Ubuntu comes with vim-tiny or the complete version (is there any way of checking which one is being opened with the vim command in the terminal?). If it is vim-tiny, how can I install the complete version of Vim and start it inside the terminal with the "vim" command? Because right now vim-tiny (I guess) starts by typing "vim" in the terminal.
will the vimrc of the tiny version interfere with the complete version of Vim?
I have just upgraded from Jaunty to Karmic. Mostly it's gone okay; a few things broke but I can fix most of them. One thing I can't figure out, though: 'lpr' stopped working properly. Printing via a GUI (i.e.: using the "print" option from an application) works fine. Printing to CUPS-PDF works fine. But printing via the command line (ie: lpr myFile.txt) doesn't work. It consistently cuts off the first line of text. For what it's worth I have a Dell Inspiron connected wirelessly to an HP OfficeJet J6480. HPLIP is installed and working fine.
View 1 Replies View RelatedSome days ago I had Windows XP and Ubuntu 10.04, obtained by upgrading from 9.10, installed on dual boot (same HD).
However, I had some issues with Ubuntu's boot: after its selection in GRUB, the login panel would not display and the screen would remain black.
I was told that upgrading might lead to problems, so I uninstalled Ubuntu 10.04 and installed it by CD.
Now I have Windows Vista and Ubuntu 10.04 (this time the CD-installed version) on dual boot, but Ubuntu after 4-5 uses doesn't boot anymore!I've also tried to boot in recovery mode, but that was no use(the recovery panel does not show up).
I removed windows completely from my Dell Inspiron N5010 and installed Ubuntu 10.04.1 64bit. In windows I have the option to create the system image of system's current state so that if something goes wrong I could easily restore my system using that image( I am not talking about windows Restore facility). I wanted to know that if there is something available in Ubuntu also. I cant use Dell recovery media creator as I have deleted recovery partition. I have already used Remastersys and it also did its job well but after restoring my Graphics card driver did not work well.

View 5 Replies View RelatedI've been having problems with AWN's shiny switcher (the desktop switcher app for AWN). On startup it often, but not always, appears as two identical switchers side by side. After changing any of the preferences of the switcher it returns to normal. After restarting the problem continues. I have tried complete removal of the program, deleting any files or folders that look like they have anything to do with AWN settings, and restarting. But after reinstalling it seems that all the settings stay the same. Where exactly are AWN settings saved, specifically the settings for applets? I will try to post a screen-shot of how the applet appears when I restart later.

View 9 Replies View RelatedI've tried about a billion times to get this to install correctly to no avail. This is the amd64 desktop edition, but I've tried with the 32 bit as well. I have a lenovo W500. The system never boots off the USB. It gets through a bit, with text output, and then stops. Sometimes it doesn't even give an error message, and other times I get something like udev failed while loading some pci device. I've tried re-downloading the iso several times, different USB keys, different USB key creators, CDs, to no avail.
I then thought, well, heck with it, I'll just install 10.10 and upgrade. Nope, there's a GPG key error for some bizarre reason, which is tripping up apt, but it's not going to tell me what key that is so I can go and get it (and apt-key update does nothing). Command line upgrades fail similarly. So finally, I go for broke and try to just install the thing with Wubi. Of course, that eventually crashes too.
I don't know if this is the right place to be posting, sorry if it's not. Basically, my issue is I installed a Chrome addon, didn't like the functionality, removed it, and it altered functionality of Chromium as a whole. So I want to remove Chromium and all its settings, then do a completely fresh install. Currently everything I've tried brings up all my old tabs and settings after the reinstall, as if I'd never done anything at all.
