My mainboard is AM2+RS780+SB700. I use "make menuconfig" command to choose motherboard. I can only choose "AMD + Tilapia" project. However, it is AM3+RS780+SB700. So how can I replace the cpu code to AM2?

I want to know how to replace an icon with another one, not to install a new theme, but simply change one icon in the theme I already have installed. The thing is I like the standard ubuntu mono-dark icon theme; one of the pre-installed ones, but there is one icon (the computer icon to be specific) that I want to change. Is it as simple as going to the location which I believe is /usr/share/icons/gnome/ubuntu-mono dark and then deleting the icon currently used for computer, and replacing it with another or would I have to change a config file too?
Usually if I want to do a fresh install I just wipe the disk, but this time I really want to keep my home partition and overcome a libwnck bug that can only be beaten with a fresh installation.
So I need to completely replace 10.04 on partition 1 (root) and link it to partition 2 (home). How do I do this?
Is there a way to replace my Ubuntu 9.04 with the latest version?
I have backups, so all I need is to be able to reformat all the present partitions and install the new version. I will recopy my useful files from external disk.
*) I am using Windows Vista in dual boot.
*) Unfortunately I do not have home on a separate partition.
I have vista and ubuntu 10.04 LTS loaded on my disk. i upgraded to ubuntu 10.04 LTS from the earlier version, after that i started using MTS Mblaze usb broadband stick as wired connections were not available. In order to get my usb stick working i messed up the ubuntu settings and now even wired connections are not working. i am frustrated and would like to replace it with 10.10 as it has MTS Mblaze default settings. In any case i never like the look and feel of 10.04 as compared to earlier versions. I have made the bootable CD for 10.10, but now how do i go about installation so as to replace 10.04. I do not want to disturb my vista as there is lot of crucial data.
I've been using ubuntu off and on for a while now and haven't gone in depth yet but have recently made the complete transfer from windows. I've been loving it however, I'm trying to link libreOffice Base to a mysql account on my netbook for a course in school but am not getting form controls. I've noticed that these comments were made in the software center and in many forums including this one I believe. I haven't seen a decent response to any of the other posts I saw and have been having other minor issues with libreOffice but have tolerated them so far. This just seems like nobody tested it at all.
I was trying to see what alternatives there were to libreOffice for 11.04. It turns out that it is a total nightmare trying to install and use any other software suite on ubuntu. I purged libreoffice but still cannot successfully install and use openoffice or gnomeoffice from the software center. I search online and in forums and all I see are articles and posts explaining how to ditch other suites and install libreoffice but I'm really trying to do the opposite at this point. I really want to love ubuntu but it is being very difficult to do so right now.
I have ububtu install via wubi. i want to change the install and TOTALLY replace it still using wubi. Is there anything special i have to do so that i don't end up with 2 wubi installs or 3 options on my boot list?
I installed LXDE in Ubuntu, and this caused the installation of PCMan. Now, somehow the PCMan File MAnager has replaced Nautilus. It is definitely faster, but still I prefer Nautilus. So, how may I replace PCMan with NAutilus as the default File-Manager?
I am not putting lnux on my mac, so I don't think it goes in the Apple section and Security is the closest I could find regarding file permissions, so excuse me if I am in the wrong area for this question. I need to back up my macbook (OSX) data. I do not have another mac nor do my friendsw.. I do have a PC running ubuntu 9 though. So I hook it up and can see it, but all the document are locked and I dont have permissions.... now with windows I know how to take over permissions, I have looked online and the closest I found is using the temporary root user command to view all locked files but that gets me to about 25% my data.
Posting this thread using the DEMO variant of 10.04, congrats to the developers that it didn't fail like that of 9.10 for all those who have configured their Modems & Routers to work in 'Bridge Mode'!
Here's my concern:::
I wish to immediately replace my 12GB partition, currently kept aside for 9.04 with 10.04.How to accomplish the same? Installation screen does comes up with 'Manual' preference, but it is confusing & am unable to make any decision owing to great excitement!?
htm, .html and .shtml files, Nautilus runs a thumnailer to preview the file. I disable the thumnailer in gconf-editor at /desktop/gnome/thumbnailers/text@html. Now it's just showing the text inside the file. How do I replace the thumbnail and now the text with just an icon for HTML?I attached an image that shows the preview thumbnail, text thumbnail, then icon, which is what I want it to look like.
I have recently installed Lucid 32 bit on my PC and Firefox 3.6 is ridiculously slow. It's not just rendering pages, simply switching between static tabs (i.e. no pages loading) can take over five seconds sometimes. I have tried all of the fixes that have been suggested around the net relating to pipelining and IPV6 but these have had no noticeable effect (many others said the same but seemingly no resolution).
I would like to install Firefox 3.5 but cannot find a deb/repository. I would simply like to know the best way of installing this so that, if possible it picks up my existing preferences from my current version of Firefox and is recognised by apt so can receive updates etc... in the future which I can choose to apply if I wish. I cannot find out if my prefs and extensions will be picked up if I install via .bzr archive - will this be the case?
I have seen grub2 wreck the system console screen display, be dependant on files in /etc/default and /etc/grub.d and be exteamely hard to configure. Even worse Grub2 settings are distribution dependent and distribution specific.
Something single like vga=nnnn in grub2 involves something akin to these commands in grub2 "set gfxmode=1280x800 set gfxpayload=keep insmod gfxterm insmod vbe" and editing far too many files. I have a steady flickering screen loaded during boot because Ubuntu's usplash image is larger than 640x480 and the vga size is 640x480. Grub2 is reluctant to be anything but user friendly.
Practical question: Does anyone know of a guide that could change grub2 back into the useful and user friendly grub (menu.lst).
I would like to configure my Ubuntu as to start Gnome without a Desktop; instead, I would like to have a graphical shell taking the whole screen, but keeping all the other functionalities of the GUI.
It doesn't really have to be Gnome - I would gladly take any GUI with the above-mentioned description that would open Firefox, Amaya and Calibre.
I am trying to save some memory with a feeble Acer Aspire One that is solely used for browsing the web (Firefox), editing webpages (Amaya), and creating .mobi files.
how to replace the Desktop with a shell or taking a different approach?
P.S.: I looked at the Ubuntu Netbook Remix and the soon-to-be-released Gnome Shell, but they are not what I am looking for!
I'm sure this is of a blinding simplicity, but I can't seem to find the right option.I want to migrate back from Evolution to Thunderbird. Installation done, no problem. But, I can't seem to be able to prevent Evolution from loading an opening (and downloading all my e-mails) at startup. How do I prevent Evolution from taking over? Should I just remove it from the system? Is it too tightly integrated with Gnome?
i ve installed fedora 14 a few days ago, but i m not at all happy with it. i also have on the same disk, a windows xp partition, and another disk with data. i am a newbie, so i wanna know if there is a guide, or tutorial, or some guidelines if possible, on how to replace fedora with ubuntu 10.10. i ve tried to initiate the installation, but i only got the options to use free space, or erase entire disk. well, to be honest, there is a third option, prompting me to manually decide the partitions, but i know nothing about it.
I wanna install GRUB-1.98 in my UBUNTU9.10, you know 9.10 comes included with GRUB 1.97 beta... but I wanna do a grub-mkpasswd-pbkdf2 and I can't. Due it I want to install GRUB 1.98. Well, the case is I already installed GRUB1.98 and I could do grub-mkpasswd-pbkdf2 but it doesn't work. Cuz when I'm gonna enter WITH "E" just appear a screen when I can write but my login user and my pass doesnt appear..!
I have Mint 10-10 and XP dual and nothing wrong here, works as planned. I have been using Ubuntu 10 for a week on another HD and decided to replace Mint with Ubuntu.
I installed from DVD and it looked okay during install....said it was successfull and please restart computer. I did. And my usual screen came up with either Mint or XP but no Ubuntu.
how to uninstall Mint10 (I'm worried about GRUB if I do) or why didn't Ubuntu replace MInt?
Do anyone know how to replace rhythmbox with banshee on ubuntu 10.04.2? I just don't like the feel of the interface, and it feels cluttered to me. I'm going to install it, the latest version from the ppa, and I feel I want to remove rhythmbox from my computer, but I'm afraid that it will break some packages or destabilize my computer.
To understand, I have two partitions in my hard disk laptop, one for data and the other one for windows xp and I also have a extern usb hard disk, this one for ubuntu. What I want to do is to boot Windows with GRUB starter without having to connect the USB hard disk (the hard disk where is ubuntu installed) to laptop. Because when I try to do it without USB hard disk connected, my laptop say "ERROR" and I would like don't be changing from grub starter to windows starter and from windows starter to grub starter each time I want to be with linux or windows isn't the usb disk. Is there any way to relocate the grub files to the internal disk laptop and start up Windows without the external USB hard disk (that has Ubuntu installed). Can I do that all necessary to carry out when I'll start up my laptop (for start up with linux and windows) be found in the data partition laptop hard disk and don't be found in the usb disk? How can I do that replace?
I've got a laptop with Windows XP Professional and OpenSUSE on it. I want to install Ubuntu in place of OpenSUSE, but keep WinXP intact.
The choices Ubuntu presents are to install it in addition to the two existing operating system partitions, completely erase the hard drive and install Ubuntu, or create custom partitions.
I'm assuming I'd have to do the latter, but I'm not exactly sure how to go about it.
