I noticed that every time I logged in my network icon always moved to the middle of the top panel. Getting tired of moving it back every time I decided to remove the panel and start from scratch. But I cannot find the me menu or the shutdown/logoff/switch user menu. So I cannot rebuild the panel the way it was. How can I find these items?
View 8 RepliesI have internet access and a semi-working Ubuntu install via command line / SSH. XBMC has been running fine until I did an update, then the xorg.conf got ##$@ed and I've spent the last 4 hours googling and trying to fix it. I'd love to just reinstall, but I don't have a blank CD or a USB Drive to use. Is there anyways I can just erase everything and start from scratch? AFAIK it's not possible to run the Ubuntu Minimal install from anywhere but a CD-ROM or USB Stick.This PC also has access to a Windows directory so I guess I could use WUBI, but would like to avoid that if possible.

1. Hide the top panel or (better) remove it completely (I can live without global menu).
2. Make the Unity Launcher work like a panel - so it won't be possible to move windows behind it.
I'm running OpenSuSE 11.1 with the KDE interface and GnuCash 2.2.7. The GnuCash manual, version 2.0 (the latest, apparently) says:
GnuCash, as a Gnome application, also allows you to define your own menu shortcuts. To define a shortcut, first go to the "Menu and Toolbar" preference panel and select the "Editable menu accelerators" check box. Then return to GnuCash, click on the menu header and move the mouse pointer over the menu item. While the menu item is highlighted, press a key or key combination to set the shortcut. You should now see your shortcut choice next to the item in the menu. To delete a shortcut, press the Delete key while the menu item is highlighted. Be careful when setting shortcuts as Gnome does no checking on the key values pressed, and you can easily do things like set a letter of the alphabet as your shortcut.
But I can't find the Menu and Toolbar preference panel. There's a Preferences section in the Edit menu, but that has nothing I can see about shortcuts. So how do I set shortcuts, or even see a list of shortcuts that are already there?
i have just installed ubuntu 10.04 dvd version and ho and behold grub error 15 just amazing any way i enter the partition via live cd thinking i edit the menu.lst file and that it but the folder grub it completly empty what is going here and how can i fix this?

I mean it asked yesterday and then again today.Is there anyway to reset the key ring passwords and start from scratch.Apparently to many things use key ring so it can't be removed.

I installed the Global Menu Bar applet for my top panel, thus removing the menu bar from most, if not, all of my apps on Ubuntu. I removed the applet, mainly because of how God-Awful and inconvenient it was. Now, I don't have any menu bars on my apps!
