Ubuntu :: Reinstall Using The Inbuilt Encryption In 10.04?
Feb 15, 2011
I am going to set up a Ubuntu installation on an external USB drive as per CS Cameron's advice in[URL]..I will put home on a separate partition and encrypt it when I reinstall Ubuntu using the inbuilt encryption in Ubuntu 10.04. (My data will be on there so it should be safe for a short while if the disk goes missing)
My question is: If I plug the USB drive into another computer which runs ubuntu (but cannot boot from USB), will ubuntu running in the "normal" way installed on the local fixed hard drive, be able to access the data on the partition if i tell it the password?
My Ubuntu 10.04 will not detect the inbuilt webcam on my Compaq Presario CQ61 laptop computer. This laptop only runs Ubuntu as I removed Windows when I got it home new from the shop a few years back. Haven't tried to get the webcam working until now. I have downloaded "Cheese" and when I run it I get the message No Device Found.I have also tried gstreamer-properties in a terminal and get the message video for linux 2 (v4l2): Cannot identify device '/dev/video0'
There is no audio output coming from the inbuilt speakers. when headphone is connected, audio is available with headphone. But not with the internal speaker when headphone is not connected.
So I was messing around trying to uninstall Nibbles and reinstall since I have an issue starting that game and something happened and removed the submenu under Games called "Logic", which had another whole list of games.
Is it possible to reinstall the games package or reinstall the update?I'm thinking more of the lines of a system restore or something so back 2 days from today.
I've been running wubi for about 2 weeks now, and am completely new to all this. Everything was running fine, until yesterday when I restarted my laptop and the sound died. It had been working fine before, but now no sound comes out of the inbuilt speakers. However, the sound works perfectly through my headphones. Am running 11.04 on an Inspiron 1525, I don't know what other information you need, so if you ask me I'll try and find it. Also the sound works fine in Windows.
I have got a refurbished acer aspire one with linpus linux...now 1. the mozilla firefox browser seemed pretty much old...but if I try to download a new version it comes us as a zip file... 2. same to microsoft docx...they come as zip file...can not sort out the updating of the browser, can not download docs files... 3. also the desktop is a very handy, but unattractive looking one...how can I get a desktop customize by my own?... 4.the inbuilt messanger is not taking any id except the one from gmail.
I am interested to know how to port usb driver in linux...I am having the driver code ..I am using fedora 11. So before that I want to know how to delete the usb driver that comes with installation or inbuilt driver. After that I will try to port my driver code and check whether the driver is working or not.
Any software for Ubuntu that will record video using the built in laptop webcam or a usb webcam. I am looking for something that works by motion detection so it isn't constantly recording. I installed Zoneminder since it was the only thing I could find, but I couldn't get it to work.
I am new to Linux, and have started using Ubuntu 9.10. everything seem to be in place except for the Web Cam. i think it is not being identified by my OS. i have tried Ekiga, but still of no use. i am using a Compaq Laptop with an inbuilt camera.
I run Ubuntu 10.04 on a Sony FZ-VGN15C Laptop. On start-up of Ubuntu I get two error messages including '...Video : Failed...' (the message is too fast to be read completely) This might relate to the fact that my built in camera does not work with Skype or Cheese Webcam Booth. The webcam type is VGP-VCC4 by RICOH.
I have a lenovo 7757 model which has an inbuilt camera. I have FC9 working on it. However I cannot use the camera. How do I enable it? If someone could point me to a driver if it needs to be installed.
I recently installed opensuse 11.2 on my laptop which also had windows vista and windows 7, i created a new partition and the installation went smoothly, after i went to boot back into windows 7 i got a blue screen of death, strangely vista boots perfectly.I could just reinstall windows 7 but its a pain to reinstall all my programs and such
While I was exploring my newly installed Mandriva Linux 2010 in my system, I found some emoticons somewhere in a window ( I exactly don't remember where ). I want to know where to use those emoticons or what are the uses of those emoticons. Please give me an example. If possible also please tell me where I could find that emoticons i.e. in desktop settings or somewhere else. I forgot the location.
I recently installed skype on my rhel 6.0, 64 bit. But the problem is, my mic doesn't work. The sound comes out through the speakers of my Toshiba laptop even though my external mic is plugged into the mic ports. I can hear the other end (from the computer's speakers not from the head set of the mic) but the other end can't hear me. I went to system preference, sound, input and nothing is muted and when i talk through the mic the input level bar doesn't move. I typed arecord --list-devices and lsusb and i got the following results. Can anyone tells me what to do to get my mic works? Note that i use windows 7 on the othe partition and the mic just works fine.
I have installed opensuse 11.4 in my lenovo ideapad G460. But, I am not being able to make the inbuilt microphone work. It does not record anything and also does not work in skype. I am not that expert with linux. I looked at different posts in this forum regarding microphone detection problem, bit could not follow. How to setting up my inbuilt microphone?
i have ubuntu 10.04 64 bit installed and configured and working sweet. I have reinstalled windows 7 and now i can't boot ubuntu i've tried easybcd to add ubuntu to win boot loader which failed and tried to follow the instructions to reinstall grub through a live cd which i am in at the moment. i go to a terminal and type sudo grub and it brings up the grub prompt. i have mounted all discs and entered the command find /boot/grub/stage1 and it keeps spitting this back at me Error 15: File not found
my hd is a 80gb with partions like this /dev/sda1 105mb ntfs system reserved /dev/sda2 45gb ntfs win 7 home premium 64 bit /dev/sda3 34gb ext4 ubuntu 10.04 64 bit /dev/sda4 1.5gb linux swap
I am building an active directory and using BIND9 as my DNS. To allow for secure dynamic updates from the domain, I am enabling GSS-TSIG as detailed here and here. Unfortunately, some of the commands and configurations used here seem to be depreciated, at least in the newer versions that I'm using. My issue is one of keytab encryption. I generated a keytab using ktpass.exe on the Windows Server 2008 domain controller. I have tried DES/MD5, AES128/SHA1 and AES256/SHA1, each have been turned down by ktutil on the kerberos server (FreeBSD). Each time, it outputs the following error: ktutil: AES256/SHA1*: encryption type AES256/SHA1* not supported *Respective to encryption used.
I cannot find a list of suitable encryption schemes that ktutil will accept. The FreeBSD handbook details a means of producing a keytab file, but I'm not sure how to configure the Domain Controller to use the keytab.
Had a compaq presario cq61 hanging around. I realised it had an inbuilt mic, I was using it for windows 7 but being a Microsoft hater like I am, Went back to ubuntu. I found out that my inbuilt microphone wouldn't work any more On 10.10 I've Unmuted it from The sound options but Its still not picking up anything, but it used to work fine on windows 7.
Is there currently a GUI for GPG encryption? I know Ubuntu used to have one. It's no longer installed by default and I tried to install the seahorse plugins so I could just right-click on a file and click encrypt, but it's not available. I've already tried right clicking in different folders and everything.
I have PDF files secured using 256-bit AES, requiring a password to open the file (Acrobat 9 or greater)
I can use Foxit Reader or Adobe Acrobat just fine on Windows, but I can't view those PDF's on Ubuntu or Mac OS X. What PDF readers for OS X and Ubuntu support 256-bit AES?
I can't get U1 to work. I removed my machine from U1 site and then I tried to add it again, but the login screen won't appear. I purged Ubuntu One completely (config files, local cache, packages, etcetera) but there's one thing I can't do: deleting myencryption key. It's simply not there and since I can't remove it, I'm not able to add my machine to U1.It happened in Maverick so I upgraded to Natty, but the problem is still there.
I like FreeNX, but it makes the system sluggish sometimes. The server is on Ubuntu and the Windows client are both on the same switch on a private network, and won't ever be use over public internet. I see in the client that I can disable encryption, but how do I do it in the FreeNX server end?
I'm on an Acer Aspire One.Clean install of 9.10.I was using 9.10 and my wireless was working fine. Then for no reason it would not connect. So I decided to reboot my router and reinstall ubuntu.Still does not work.I have figured out that it seems to be WPA encryption that is at fault. When I turn it off on my Linksys the netbook connects fine, turn it back on and nada.
if i try to use a static address then the laptop seems to connect but I cannot ping the router or get to the internet. If anyone has any ideas I would be grateful, I would rather use WPA than WEP.My iphone connects and this netbook connects with Windows, so I know the linksys is not at fault.
I have a server with Apache2 and I would like to use encryption to prevent eavesdropping POST requests and similar. I've had success using SSL with a self-signed certificate, but this will of course generate huge warnings from the web browser. It's no problem for me when I'm connecting to the server as I know what to expect, but any other user who sees such a warning will surely leave the site unless I have personally explained the procedure.
Is there really no way to encrypt HTTP without having to use certificates? I know that this is supposed to provide security by identifying the server, but my point is that an encrypted connection without a CA would in no way be inferior to one that sends passwords as plain text. All I want to do is prevent people who are using programs such as Cain or any other packet sniffer from getting their hands on my passwords. I'm not exactly running an online bank system her
I am looking for some software (not Tryecrypt) where I can just right click a file and it will encrypt it for me. It would be nice to unencrypt on Windows but not essential.
